  • Chomsky has a remarkable talent for giving long talks on a subject matter without discussing the religious motivations of both sides.

  • @highwind8124: Probably because they are of little relevance. Not to them, of course. But in the grand scheme of things, its probably more prudent to omit religion during such discussions.

  • @chinopisces

"Probably because they are of little relevance."

This is why Chomsky and would win an award in dishonesty if they handed them out.

  • I like chomsky, but he doesn't really dismiss the reports about Iran nuclear weapons, Iran has no nuclear weapons, they're signatories to the NTP treaty and have inspectors safe guarding their program, the supposed "secret program" is nothing more than a half built building which will not be operational for 18 months, which gives them ample time to inform the IAEA, who require any state to inform them 6 months in advance of starting any new enrichment, they're not in breach of anything.

  • Chomsky is simply brilliant.

His thoughts are so precise and sober.

Allthough he seemingly paints a dark picture of America, if you listen to him, you see that he sees a possible solution! See how he feels about the sixties.

The man believes in the american people!

    (If the american people do)!

  • Remember that time that Iran was a democracy and the CIA overthrew it and installed one of the most brutal and oppressive dictators in the entire world.

  • Great point, plus there is an argument which is always conveniently ignored: the very fact that Iran should have a right to develop nuclear power (and yes even weaponry) in the first place, if it so chooses. Perhaps it wouldn't appear so hostile and rightly defensive if the USA et al stopped threatening to drop bombs on its population. The USA/EU don't want Iran to go nucleur because you can't bully and manipulate nuclear countries as easily, N.Korea for example. So the propoganda war begins.

  • Wow What24ever, common American ignorent moron.

Your bored? Go use drugs, and eat Whoppers while you watch pornography you peice of trash.

    You guys are disgraceful

  • Meat-heads.......Chomsky is one of the most brilliant minds. Do Not Post your dumb thoughts here, please. You need an eggrole forced into one of your orfices the next time you are in jail.

  • mmmmm eggrolls

  • if you think this is boring, you should watch Paris Hilton vids instead...fucktard...

  • what24ever23 sounds like he's retarded.

  • It is very telling that the US has never really worked with nor even heeded the Iranian resistance...I guess because it's Uncle Sam's way, or no way...

  • Chomsky criticizes corporations and governments, but I haven't ever heard him mention the international bankers that are running everything. Why? Because they're his bosses. He MUST be an agent of the banker created CIA; there is no other explanation for him not singling out the bankers. Chomsky himself "controls dissent" being gatekeeper on the left for this corrupt system.

  • this video has not much to do with the world bank or any international bank. now as far as i am concerned, prof.chomsky has commented in numerous writings and interviews about the world bank.. there are plenty of references available.

  • AMEN! international bankers are the ones controlling everything . they are stealing everyones labor.

  • "The main purpose for government secrecy is security against the domestic population. They don't want their own population to know what they are up to." He is speaking to you.

Noam: "I often get emails about how Iran, Cuba, North Korea, etc., are about to destroy us. It is hard to know whether to laugh or to weep."

  • Bush and Cheney are the ones we should fear: damn chickenhawks with their nuclear bluster and suicidal plans for Irag. Maxwedge12000, look at the record: what was Chomsky saying about the impending invasion of Iraq back in 2003? Who turned out to be right about the disaster than ensued? Who turned out to be lying?

  • My honest opinion is that we have been distracted as a people. The price for that is a federal government totally out of control. It matters not which party is at the helm anymore. We have a terrible foreign policy, in debt up to our eyeballs, civil liberties are being eroded everywhere you look. If given a chance, I will vote for Ron Paul with great hopes of turning this mess around. As far as chomsky goes, even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and again.

  • wow, you really don't get it do you, I like Ron Paul, but if you think he doesn't regard Chomsky as an important intellectual of our time, then you have some serious catch-up to do.

  • I have no idea what Ron Paul thinks of chomsky. Perhaps you could provide a link that illuminates Ron Paul's opinion of chomsky?

  • finding nuts for 40+ years?

  • Blind squirrel folk-joke. Use sparingly to avoid the question. Ron Paul = Jesus Christ.

  • I dont understand the vitriolic attacks on folks like Gore Vidal and Noam Chomsky on behalf of the ruling elite? Is there any doubt that America is not a functioning democracy? Our elected officials vote for war and more nukes despite multiple polls showing, year after year, that the great majority of Americans (and Iranians, btw) want peace and nuclear disarmament. I'm not hopeful, but one might as well get the facts straight.

  • what24ever23 Chomsky is a cool guy please take your insignificant ramblings of character assassination and theism else where intelligentsia

  • Comments suggesting this is to any degree about self promotion are, if not mere assasinations of character, marginal at best, but the main intent and effect right or wrong, is to divert you and your thoughts if any away from what he is saying. Don't think about what he is saying!

  • OMG... What a big true!

  • "Giving it'th thtatuth in the middle eatht..."

  • Lol, the interviewer has a fucking lisp.

  • Chomsky is using some pretty speculative logic and loose usage of facts here. Why would anybody consider this guy an intelligent commentator??? He seems to be more interested in reducing a highly disconnected group of world events to a reason d'etre for his view on domestic politics in his own government.

  • "Why would anybody consider this guy an intelligent commentator???" A: Read him. His instincts after 9/11 were prophetic.

  • Well... I could probably make some blanket statement that government A or government B will be seeking more control or power or X or Y or Z; that doesn't make me a profit - just a super-self-promoting profiteer/capitalist. Chomsky's stock and trade is using "higher criticism" and an almost dismissive passive tone to blather on about all things.

  • He has probably published ten books since 9/11, and given a thousand speeches. How could this qualify as a "blanket statement"? His specifics are legion.

Give us an example of Noam being "super-self-promoting". He is in fact the most sought after speaker in the world, and turns down far more offers than he accepts.

  • Well, you'll have to justify with your own god why you are idolizing Chomsky so fervently.

  • First, I think if you'll read carefully, their is in fact nothing resembling idolization or fervor in either of my statements. Secondly, it comes as no surprise that you couldn't give an example of his super-self-promotion, since none exist. Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, I will not have to justify anything, at any time, to any "gods". They exist only in the minds of the weak.

But, as Chomsky says "If we choose we can live in a world of comforting illusion"

  • I'm glad to hear you aren't too fervent in your defense of Chomsky. Chomsky's super-self-promotion is fairly irrelevant since others are seemingly willing to do it for him; however, if you need an example look no further than his work in the field of Linguistics; highly derivative and offering of nothing new, but to be the product of a combination of super-self-promotion, derailment of detractors, and the alteration of research data.

  • You're kidding right?

I don't care much about your personal attacks on Chomsky being "self-promoting."

But whats more important is the truth of what he says.

So can you offer just one thing that Chomsky says thats incorrect here?

    Just one.

    I'll be waiting.

Every thing the man says is cited and backed up.

    Please wake up.

  • To address you third point about Gods existing "... only in the minds of the weak" I'm sure that god will call you strong in that event.

  • His information doesn't come from main stream sources. He cites only fact. He invites anyone to do the research and see for themselves. Yes he speaks about the awful truth which is not very fashionable in his country at this time.

  • true it would be better if he just accepted world events as all disconnected and went back to his office and sat in the corner

  • I don't agree. He's speaking not footnoting about the power elite and its abuses cogently, making rather obvious points that are not disconnected, especially complex or attenuated in the least. For example, he notes that despite the polls, the elite refuses to disarm and make peace.

  • Why should I not listen to Dr. Chomsky? Have you read any of his books, additionally, does he have footnotes in his books because I'm not sure if they do? I raise concern of these questions because I really question you're critical reasoning skills. I'm not saying I posses critical thinking, I'm just exercising it. Thanks.

  • All his is books are KNOWN for their footnotes.

  • Yes, I'm way late, but, go to any big bookstore. Go up to the customer service desk. Ask them where the Noam Chomsky books are. He or she will politely walk you over to the current affairs/history section. In the table of contents, for any book of his that you choose, there will be at the bottom, a chapter titled, "Footnotes", and a number by it. Turn the book to that page, and get back to me.

  • Good stuff, I've been looking for chomsky's veiws that area bit more up top date. Alot is happening right now so stuff form 3 years ago, although still largly relivent, there is so much more new stuff going on.

    THanks for the upload.

  • Ta very much for this. Great upload, when was it recorded?

  • Thanks for watching. Recorded on 5th of June '07.
