Yeah. The WB executives needed Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt to be able to pitch the show to them. Just to make sure that it would fly. I am glad it did.
@LeshaAnn seriously! i was just about to comment on that. this show introduced me to that band and i love them now! when i first heard "touched" in season one, i was hooked. and vast has such a good tone for the show.
@lizalector Yep. This video was only meant for the WB execs, so they'd pick up the show. They shot a few new scenes and just slap a bunch of others together around it, They'd probably have thrown in scenes from Batman, if it had vampires in it. Maybe the legal reasons were why it wasn't on the DVDs.
They never really said specifically why, but my opinion is that Angel intentionally Americanized himself. The whole fighting for redemption thing was something relatively new that had not come up until 1996, when Angel was approached by Whistler. Before then, he felt that he had no place in the world and tried to hide himself. It would make hiding in America more diificult if he still sported the Irish Brogue.
@TheWingedTigress true but in one episode he did say that his name was now Spike and when Angel asked what's with the accent he said what im just trying sumthing new. So yeah accents do change but he wanted his changed
There's a comic that Joss Whedon created it follows the event's of what happened to Angle after the last. I don't want to spoil any of the plot in case you want to read it but Gunn became a vamp and Angle's now almost Human. Check it out I really liked it.I think think it's still an ongoing series that has yet to end.
The talking directly to the camera was different, but Joss has never been above narration. An example in Buffy is Angelus' narration in the season 2 episode 'Passion' and an example in Angel is Lorne's narration in the season 4 episode 'Spin the Bottle'.
I agree about Fred. I liked her character a lot and it was sad to see her go. I did however, like Illyria too. All and all I'd say it was an even trade. Two sides, same coin.
Uh, oh - I fully understand why they made another version of it!! It`s much too awkward and lenghty!! I got it, that it was just meant as some kind of "presentation"...but somehow I remember watching a whole pilot, which was totally different to the later version - was a couple of years ago, so I might be wrong!!
so doyle meets cordelia in the unaired pilot oh ok, now i get it cuz in s1 it looked like they knew each other a lil bit but thats funny when he said she come with the office haha, and angel in white shirt what the hell? haha
In the original pilot, "City of", Angel has been sent to save a girl, but fails. The vampire who killed said girl then sets his fangs on Cordelia - who Angel does save, and as they are running away from the vampire-in-question, Doyle and Cordelia. The end of the episode, in the new Angel Investigation offices, Doyle begins his crushing on Ms. Chase.
then he came to la and fell in love with the most beautiful woman he has ever seeing who showed him what real love is about not just about jumping each others bones, cordelia chase the coolest and funniest woman ever and so dman gorgeous
Well, it definitely wasn't an unaired pilot, it was more like a "pitch reel". Joss shot for the WB execs to get the full green-light for Angel's series after Season 3 of Buffy. Aside from making the Wolfram & Hart lawyers look like Agents from The Matrix, I thought it was very well done. Some of the footage in it even made it into the genuine pilot, "City of".
Angel series should be back in 2012!!! I miss this serie so much.

To the fond memories of Glenn Quinn and Andy Hallett. Both were fantastic actors that struck out a part of the show and made it shine.

Glenn Quinn was the perfect Doyle. I was always angry his character was killed off. So sad he's no longer with us in real life either :(

A fair point but Spike didn't really /keep/ his accent.
He was sired way before his current accent was even used, so accents do change.
Spike must have spent a lot of time hanging out with cockney's :D
