Meat Loaf was to have this song and Making Love Out of Nothing at All on an album. The rocket scientist executives at his record label balked at paying Steinman for the songs. Hopefully they are somewhere asking if folks want fries to go with their burgers now. Worked out good for Tyler and Air Supply.
Bonnie Tyler s classic. It was No. 1 even here in Brazil. A great song performed by this epic rock n roll voice. Yeah! Bonnie is Heavy metal for sure.
@depo983 A dire la verità... me la messa in mente quella scena... che ho visto per sbaglio su youtube di romanzo criminale... anche se non lo seguo...
nooo no no no. Steinman wrote it for Meatloaf but this was the point in their carreer when meatloaf's record company wouldn't pay for steinmans songrwritings so he sold it to bonnie tyler instead.
they then got back together and now they work together again last time i checked
the story is that steinman wrote it for meatloaf but after bat 1 and the tour meatloaf really hurt his voice and couldnt talk let alone sing so he said give it to bonnie cause meatloaf and her were good mates
@MrRIckmassey Probably worked out for the best, anyway. This song has always seemed more appropriate for a female singer, even if it was written by a man.
Rory Dodd (b. Port Dover, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian rock vocalist who has performed many songs written by Jim Steinman. He is probably best known for singing the "Turn around, bright eyes" lyrics on Bonnie Tyler's version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
Meat Loaf has nothing to do in this song.............author / producer Jim Steinman made the song and Bonnie Tyler sang it but not, in any circumstances, with Michael Lee Aday(aka Meat Loaf)
I used to think Meatloaf was the male singer on the single and that Bonnie had sung on I'd Do Anything For Love with him again. But later realised that the connection had been the author / producer Jim Steinman. Steinman should write a record for the two of them to sing together.
He did. They perform A Kiss Is a Terrible Thing To Waste together in the stage show Whistle Down the Wind. The song features on Meat Loaf's greatest hits album.
well, the only conection to meatloaf i see here is the arraanger behind this song and the fact that he arranged most of meatloaf stuff as well. Other than that, it just Bonnie Tyler's mega hit.
this song was intented to be sung by meatloaf (they have a mutual songwriter for much songs), but meatloaf couldn't at that time (had something with his voice...)
then later, they recorded this version together ;)
@phantasmphan I have heard that too, something about a dispute between Steinman and Mr. Loaf. I love the song, just think it's too bad such a dispute kept Loaf from performing it.
@diegobulsara maybe they were better in their prime but meatloaf can still sing like this, the others dont sound anywhere near as good as they used to
I can say what has already been mentioned before in these comments: "Heaven and Hell" is a compilation of Bonnie Tyler and Meatloaf songs - they did not record any of it together and they do not appear together on it.
According to Meat Loaf, Steinman had given the song, along with "Making Love (Out of Nothing At All)," to Meat Loaf for his Midnight at the Lost and Found album. However, Meat Loaf's record company refused to pay for Steinman and he wrote separate songs himself. Steinman's songs were then given to Bonnie Tyler and Air Supply, respectively.[1]
After checking it out, I found that a ML backing singer called Rory Dodd sang the backing vocals on this. He's specifically credited with the "Turn around" vocal on the track details as listed on Wikipedia. I know that can be wrong, but I'd put my money on that theory.
actually steinman only wrote the songs from the bat albums and a few from meats other albums. the other songs meat has done are written by himself and the neverland express
no the producers didn't have enough money so they asked him to wrote his own songs for that album and so Jim gave that song to Tyler... at least that is an official explanation...
@KronikAlkoholik NO...... Jim Steinman who works with Meat Loaf wrote this song and produced the entire album with Bonnie Tyler. I believe Nicki French did a cover of this song back in 95 or 96 I believe. Hope that helps.
@KronikAlkoholik basically. steinman wrote for meat loaf and meat loaf was supposed to sing this song but when he lost his voice, jim went to bonnie tyler
It's an odd thing... Steinman worte it, Bonnie Tyler sings 99% of it and though Meatloaf sings just the "turn around" and some background stuff, this sound is meantioned so often with him. Anyway, great song and great vid, I love it ^^.
From what I've read, it was written for Meatloaf, but his producers didn't want to pay Steinman for the song.
