  • nice.......^_^

  • Thx

  • your shirt is pretty cool haha

  • can I ask what type of string ur using?

and also the amp settings to if u don't mind tnx =D

  • MarloweDK, do you use an audio compressor on your amp/pre-amp to make the hammer-ons more clear? I don't have an effects box connected to my bass amp, and my hammer-ons sound very soft compared to slap. Do you think that I need compression (or something like that) or do I just need to hammer-on harder with my fingers?

  • its like the e string says JACKASS every time he slaps it :))

  • what bass is that?

  • awesome ..

    nice play ... :D

  • I like your t shirt!!!!!!

  • what kind of bass is that? jazz bass?

  • @takessianm jazz

  • .,very nice..i'll try this XD

  • Hey thomas

When is the release(I want it for christmas!!)

    Cheers

    Thomas

  • When will it be out marlowe?

  • marlowe i like this vid an the way you show it . i have only two questions . do you only hit with you thumb (ok sometime you plug the string, but mainwhile with your thumb, right?) on the last frets? and the next thing is why it sounds not so funky when i play it greetings from germany and i hope you'll answer ;)

  • I think your vids are the best Ive seen so far, and your not a dick.

  • thank you.

  • i really dont get slapbass..ive been trying for aages and i cant get the technique, whenever i try to pop with my thumb it just sounds like the strings hitting the metal between 2 frets

  • Dude what you think about Fruity Loops?

  • Thanks for all the great work you do...I'm sure you always hear it, but you seriously provide a great service to many bass players. We should get yours and Ed Friedland's faces etched into Mt. Rushmore!!

  • Love your T-shirt!

  • @Zh0rik the travolta on his shirt looks so strange of a color, he almost looks like some kind of undead travolta. and what's better, is while he's playing, it looks like a dancing undead travolta.

  • when will it come out??

  • great

  • when you play 7th fret of the A string, do you hammer that on as if to tap it with your left hand? also, it looks like at one point in the riff you make a muted slap sound by hitting the strings on the fretboard with your left hand, is that what your actually doing? coz i cant see to make the sound when i hit the fretboard with my left hand

  • Do enjoy your videos, very good indeed ive been playing 30 years and never quite matered the funk slap style, there is more to it than meets the eye! What is that pink jazz bass? i notice it has a weird bridge, zero fret and a chunky nut and a great looking fretboard sound great through those chunky jazz pick ups too :)

  • like your shirt

  • hey marlowe, this is a BIG "thank you" for all your posts. i bought a bass for my 12 year old daughter but your videos made me curious and i start exploring it as well. your teaching techniques are phenomenal. cheers and thanks again.

  • Funky! Dig the groove, bro!!!

  • Oh and I guess the playing was okay too.... haha just messin' man.

  • Nice shirt! haha

  • Professor..

Would You Have Some Yamaha Bass in Your Collection?

  • great groove! looks really promising, I'm waiting for the release

  • Ok...so pink bass guitar, a poster that says "BLOW" and t-shirt that look like black and white dudes marriage....in just sayin! but this guy is really good

  • @AudioTechinca His t-shirt is about "Pulp Fiction" :D

  • Great lesson, awesome groove, funky T-shirt :)

  • Thanks from Hungary!

  • It's easier for me to play this using the G on the D string instead of the open G string for two reasons. 1, I seem to have more power hammering down on the E when use the G on the D string. 2, I guess I just have fat fingers and can't get a solid tone on the open G while trying to hammer to the E. My index finger always grazes the G string just enough to actually create a harmonic. I guess thing just comes with practice though.

  • wow this really helps! thanks!!

  • That is a GORGEOUS tone!

  • Hehehe u make the pink bass look badass :) thnks a lot ^^

  • I play a 4-string and I can only seem to slap on the E string, on all the others strings I just end up hitting another string, and for some reason I get a very muted noise on anything I play past the 7th or so fret.

  • this bass sounds great...

  • Great chops,cool glasses,awesome tone,ledgendary T-shirt.

  • I. Want. That. DVD. NOW.

  • Only real men can play a pink bass. ;-)

  • @goldenhopper Doesn't matter what color the bass has, the bassplayer is always the coolest of the band. :D

  • @Dutch02051990 Especially when you're wearing a Jules and Vincent t-shirt!

  • @goldenhopper That was before hipsters got the memo. They buy everything in pink these days.

  • Just bought a new Warwick :)

  • I'm not a beginner but this bassline is so cooool! I'm playing it everyday: it's relaxing...

Greetings from Italy and always THANKS for your videos!

p.s. MarloweDK isn't only a great bassist but also a great cinephile... ^^

  • nice

  • Thanks so much for all your videos MarloweDK! I used to play using my index to pinky over 2 frets because I like how you can still have a relaxed hand, although my old bass teacher encouraged me to always use one finger per fret. I'm thinking of switching back, at least for stuff like octave patterns and whatnot. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on that and the approach you use on your left hand technique?

  • @tianolp Most of the time we play bassline patterns in the octave postion below 5th fret. No need for a finger per fret unless playing scale patterns IMO. I use the double bass fingering mostly in lower postions where ring and pinky are "glued" together as one finger

  • @MarloweDK Yeah I agree. It's something I'll mess around with on my own and figure out what works for me. You da man!

  • I think that, from 0:15 to 0:24 Travolta express the badass feelin' of this slap :D

  • Hi Marlow! ))) Can you tell me whan you DVD will be abiable in italy? Thanks. )))

  • How do you slap/mute the strings without actually hammering onto another fret? This is giving me so much trouble..

  • where do you get that drum loops?...

  • @basssmaaan Its a drum machine

  • @MarloweDK can you tell me which drum machine it is?

  • You give that pink bass more mojo than it deserves to have. It's even fun watching you play the half-tempo part.

  • hej Thomas when's it comin' out?

is it going to be a world wide premier?!

    Thom

  • Awesome T Shirt Marlowe!

  • blows ma mind maaaaan

  • Har du down tunet din bas? og hvis du har, til hvad?

  • What strings are that?

  • BLOW

  • Am i the only one thinking, where the fuck do i get a pink jazz bass?!

  • Nice _ i would buy the DVD. What strings do you have on at the moment?

  • other slap lessons pls

  • love your videos man, you look like sheldon cooper xD

  • DVD... BlueRay as well?

  • Nice PULP FICTION shirt ahaha

  • Very nice video ! Thanks to you, I'm not blocked with slap technique anymore !

  • If this is going to be a standalone DVD (standalone from youtube), some talking would definitely be appreciated for many students for explanation of (for example) the left hand slapping techniques. Plus, what would your videos be like without a little nice Danish English! I'm definitely going to buy the DVD! Keep it up.

  • quality looks fantastic

  • nice pulp fiction shirt!

  • I'm sure the multinational community that loves your videos would die for a chance to translate. You could probably recruit your adoring fans to do a little translation for you. You can have a simple application thingy; or heck get someone to run it for you b/c I'm sure you're busy

I'd be glad to translate or help out anyway you can. You've given so much to the music community and you're an inspiration to bassists everywhere, regardless of language

  • @ChaosDragon924 Yes, maybe that could be an option, people have been offering it before. Thank you:-)

  • If you don't want to speak on the video, then you could just write all your comments, if any, for the differents sections, have them translated to a bunch of languages then, and include them on the DVD as a PDF's. I personally think you could speak the slap techniques.

Also, if you use Guitar Pro or similar software, it would be so much greater if you included the tabs in this format on the disc along with the text ones as well!

Looking forward, and make Intermed. & Advanced DVD's! :)

  • Very very nice video! I really love your slap bass riffs, I play them all the time ;)

  • is that a zero fret.....whats the point of one?

  • I'd really like to know how you record your vidoes? what camera are you using?

the sound quality is good, is it the mic that is on the camera? or are you using a seperate mic? If I want to do video my camera the mic isn't that good. Easy enough to record sound well but on video as well makes it tricky, maybe if theres some info on Marlowes site about this?

  • @Yimmery The sound on this video is special, its a mix of my rh450 amp and Avalon u5 direct box, plus a tiny bit of camerasound for ambience

  • @MarloweDK I see, so you synchronised the sound with the video footage?

  • Definitly looking forward to more of these videos

  • looks very good marlowe. I think you've found a great video style.

The look, lighting and video quality is excellent as well.

    I also like the t-shirt ;)

  • its a girly thing u have a pink bass... wow very cool style

  • its a girly thing u have a pink bass...

  • Ola MarloweDK, como faço para adquirir o DVD? abraço!

  • Cool vid, man. I look forward to being able to get my hands on this DVD. One question, though. Will the DVD have an explanation and demonstration of how to set up a bass for slap?

  • Magnificent video. I really liked it.

  • You are a great teacher. I will buy this DVD for sure.

  • i love your videos, awesome lessons! the only thing i miss is the tab. its good for lazy people like me :D when will your DVD released?

  • u wanna trade ur T shirt?

  • I need to get this shirt... and the Sandberg! Greetings from Germany

  • On a slightly unrelated note, I'm glad you got rid of a lot of the clanky acoustic noise from the strings. Your first preview had a biitttt too much of it!

  • hehe awesome shirt.

  • what a cool video dude!

  • Once again nicely done! The best format for lessons that I have seen. Keep up the excellent work!!

  • ill order your dvd, its a promise !

  • Is that a zero fret that you have on your bass? Do you think it affects the action and tone of the instrument over one that doesn't?

  • @blackwaxjh cannot feel any difference with zero fret

  • @MarloweDK Thanks for answering my question Thomas. You're sounding great as always. :)

  • just by watching this video I feel I can play slap style! Thanx!

  • great little slap lick you came up with there. Can't wait for your DVD gonna check it out.

  • You didnt strike me as a pulp fiction fan lol. Cant wait for the DVD!

  • i like the new set up!

  • Great tone, great lesson, great video. Keep doing what you're doing.

  • Comment removed

  • nice t -shirt :)

  • Publish it and I'm buying it

  • God your slap tone is a dream. Would you be as kind as to tell me what your tone control is on your bass ?

  • @pwninROD Just use new strings:-)

  • @MarloweDK how often do you replace ur strings?!

  • @MarloweDK You can also cook your old strings, they'll sound nice for at least a few more days/weeks :D

  • @pwninROD

he has a point, playing slap with dead strings is useless

  • awesome, clean shots Marlow, so nice it's not in a horrible studio setting and the inserts concerntrating on the left hand are just perfect. Maybe you can include more content on the DVD if you forget some of the right hand shots :øD

  • @stoob1969 Thx, but it seems that people are divided regarding to which hand should be emphasized. And yes some of the licks wont have the close ups at all

  • DUDE I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS

    greetins from Costa Rica

  • Gonna pray tonight.

"Oh,God please give me a tone like this. Amen"

  • This deserves no dislikes ;)

  • Nice shirt!

  • wow man, I need this dvd

  • Bet its going to be a bad ass dvd, as bad ass as the t-shirt! Its about time too...Ganbatte Marlowe! XD

  • From this clip I can already tell that your dvd is going to raise the bar for others to follow. It already has a style of it's own!

  • Hello, any advanced slap techniques DVD is being prepared?

  • This is a studio quality lesson Marlowe. Slap on bass is about staying rooted in the basics, great lesson!

  • You have a bass with a zero fret? How does that work for you?

  • Are those active PUPs on that bass? Your tone sounds way too punchy to be passive. Would you also recommend using active PUPs over passive ones for slap? I find tonal quality better with passive, but it doesnt punch through as well as actives do.

  • that is certainly a sexy colour on that sexy bass. will definitely be buying the book ^_^

  • I can't wait for this DVD!! It will be a definite buy for me when it releases =). Definitely worth the money for any bass player looking to improve =).

  • Your tone is awesome too!

  • Your grooves and lessons are the best!

  • incredible groove

  • Filming looks great!

  • Well done, Marlowe, you've done it with the split screen! Sound and video, the slow-motion, all very professional-looking, and very easy to see.

  • Hey Marlowe, what strings do you use? And do you have the action set up a particular way so that you get the strings to vibrate that much?

  • Great job on everything!

  • Nice Sandberg!

  • looking and sounding professional man. great job.

  • wait so Marlowe, do u have a signature sandberg bass?
