i am technologically challenged and this video was GREAT and easy to follow... best of all... IT WORKED. Apparently when you put music files onto your apple product, apple automatically changes the names of your music files to random 4 and 5 letter characters, but it reserves all the music info... so dont worry. BUT WHAT ABOUT PLAYLISTS? I love my old playlists and can not find the files anywhere. Is this even possible? If not, I have all my music... so thats good enough. Thank You!

K, the last few steps that weren't shown: Create a new folder on your desktop.

Copy all the files from your ipod to the new folder

Select all files in the new folder, right click, properties.

Unclick Hidden

Go into Itunes

G to File

Click Copy Folder

Find the folder, click OK

this only works on the old ipods not touches or iphones they only come up as cameras if you want to import your shit you need to download some software (touchcopy)

This will not work while the music folder on iPOD has "hidden" property. First change properties of this folder by unchecking "hidden" option for the folder and all subfolders files etc.

Thanks man. Once I changed the file permissions to show hidden files, my IPOD then showed up in Explorer and it worked pretty much as you explained. The only problem was that ITUNES would still not recognize the music once on my PC, so I had to manually import the songs from ITUNES. I don't understand Apple's thinking though. I mean, most people at one time or another are going to have to reformat and/or buy a new PC.  Guess copyright infringement paranoia reigns supreme. :o(

The question is what happens to the music files once you have dragged them onto your itunes library? Are the actual mp3 files copied back in the default itunes library folder on your pc?

This is my situation : all my music was organised as mp3 in folders on my external HDD. I setup itunes so it would read the music from my external disk. Today my disc crashed and I'm unable to restore it. Luckily I got most of the music on my ipod. I would like to copy all music back onto a new external disk

For me, I could not drag the folder and put it in the library in itunes. I had to go to each individual song and drag it into itunes! It still worked though. ;)

Maybe that's what people should do if they are having trouble dragging the folder into itunes.
