He is not singing about Chhiang Mai girls but to a Chhiang Mai girl (but of course it could be anyone). Bopha meaning beautiful flowers and Chiang Mai in Thailand. In the song, he is saying he is thinking of her everyday. Telling her how much he missed her and all the fond memories. Chhiang May Oun oiy...aww how sweet! He regrets that he had to leave and be far from her. He begging her not to forget and stop loving him.

Yes I have also heard of sinn Sisamouth. there was a colaboration between thai and cambodian film industry and he sang the title song for this movie....very tallented man.

sin si samouth was praised by all, not just many, but all, absolutely all, the cambodians of the old generation (the 1950s, 1960s, & 1970s). as for the new generation, i aint know, however i believe probably many praise him, as you say.

usually referred 2 kung som oeun as "ah kung som oeun" or chea youthorn as "ah chea youthorn", but they never referred 2 sin si samouth as "ah sin si samouth", they referred to him as "sin si samouth".
sin si samouth was the most, probably the only, respected male cambodian entertainer back then.
