  • Was the Laffy a fletcher class?

  • Hmmm.. I do agree that this Top ten list tends to favour Allied ships. Because I know for a fact the Japanese had some good warships during WW2 and if you want to count in the Cold War, the Soviets does have some intimidating ships of their own as well.

  • where is Kirov class in this list

  • crap presentation

  • Military Channel sucks so hard.

Only American Propaganda no serious list.

  • @HerrHeinerich fuck u america never massacred innocent civilians

  • @knight0Farabia07 The United States was not the only country who massacred citizens or anything else.

    1.Nazi Germany's Holocaust

    2. Stalin's Great Purge

    3. China's Tiananmen Square Massacre, Mao Zedong's killings

    4. Imperial Japan Nanking Massacre

    Just saying...

  • You are not seeing past the major points.

The Germans had such an edge over russia as

1st: The soviets wern't expecting an attack

2nd: Stalin would not give permission to move forces to the border

3rd: They had few effective senior commanders

4th: almost all of their equipment, including tanks and aircraft was outmatched by superiorly built German models

  • @mrbones652 If the Germans had such an edge over the Soviet Union, then how did Germany lose the war?

  • during the 20's and 30's Stalin executed or imprisoned some of his most senior and best military commanders because he was paranoid that they were more popular then him. By doing this the Soviet army was filled with junior officers with no experience which gave the Germans a tactical edge during ww2

  • @mrbones652 What a moron that Joseph Stalin was. The Soviet Army was lucky because at Stalingrad, the cold and snow set in and the Soviets knew how to fight in the snow.

  • DEMOCRACY FREEEEDOOOMMEEEEE

  • is the rumor true that many navy men practice homosexuality on boats?

  • the japs made some great destroyers, their downfall they lacked radar.

  • Communist vessels are superior!

  • @PolizeiLutscht Superior at sinking lol.

  • @Dogmeat1950 FUCK AMERICA COMMUNISMO WINS!

  • @PolizeiLutscht um.... no lol.

  • @Dogmeat1950 FUCKER!

  • @PolizeiLutscht I heard that communism can't feed its own people. Is that true?

  • @NatedogJr FUCK YOU IMPERALIST AMERICAN SUCKER!

  • @PolizeiLutscht Ah... So it is true! Also, Stalin killed millions of people by execution or sent to Gulags. Even some of his military commanders. Also, Famines ensued, causing millions more of deaths.

  • @NatedogJr COMMUNISMOS WINS !!! AMERICANS = LOOSERS!!!!

  • @PolizeiLutscht Then why does Soviet Union no longer exist? I rather own my property, instead of the government owning my property. I mean communism cant feed its people. WITHOUT FOOD PEOPLE WILL DIE. AND WITHOUT PEOPLE, YOUR COMMUNIST REGIME WILL BE WORTHLESS.

  • @PolizeiLutscht 1991 would beg to differ

  • @colen42 : ha ha

  • @PolizeiLutscht

thats why you lost the cold war. Fuck commenism you liberal

  • My Dad was member of the original crew of the USS Taussig DD746, Sumner class destroyer (upgraded version of the Fletcher class). That ship saw action in the Pacific during WWII, and and was also deployed for service in Korea and Vietnam. It was then sold to Taiwan in the early seventies and served in their navy until 1999. It still exists as a museum ship in Taiwan. I hope to visit her someday.

  • Destroyers or smaller are the future. Already we're seeing ships of this class with all the capability of Aegis cruisers, missile cruisers and anti sub ships - there is little benefit in building bigger ships (other than carriers) The extra size just makes them a bigger target and a bigger loss if hit.

The days of having giant hugely expensive to maintain battleships are long over - even smaller, more flexible boats are the future.

  • Why aren't these being numbered in the titles? I like watching the top tens IN ORDER!

  • just search for the playlist. they're all in order on the militarychannel playlist.

  • @DocWolph So you can be surprised man....

  • Gotta hand it to them: The Fletchers were were pretty hard working ships during the war.

  • 65 years ago today.

God Bless the men of Taffy 3.

RIP Cmdr Evans, Paul Henry Carr.

  • @TheZuikaku You are right, it isn't the size of the ship that matters- but the quality of the men engaged in the battle. Like I said God Bless the men of Taffy 3.

  • @RSBejmls

hmhm, in you're oppinion a destroyer with a master crew can beat a bismarck class with a cadett crew?

  • @yman5000 No more then ten of these fight off a entire IJN fleet mix with two battleships (Yamato), three heavy cruisers, and elven other light cruisers and destroyers. Three heavy IJN cruisers were taken out at a cost of three destroyers and two escort aircraft, planes only had payload to do minimum damage against heavy IJN armor ships, carriers. The rest of the IJN fleet retreated due to confusion of Tarry 3 for the USN third fleet. Mainly due to the damage the Japanese took.

  • @yman5000

you do know that the american Battleship iowa made number 1 right?

  • @RSBejmls Yep and Even the DE- Samuel B. Roberts - "The Destroyer Escort that Fought like a Battleship". How about the USS Laffey - "The Ship that Would Not Die"

  • @biscuitninja Thanks for pointing out USS Laffey. The other two DDs at Samar fought like hell too, USS Hole and USS Heerman.

  • What inaccuracy?

  • fckn nationalist

  • No mabey its fuck YOU.

  • @RSBejmls

I served on the USS Carr (FFG-52), his family would visit the ship just about every year.

  • But do you know that during wars many new technology was created , did you know that world war 1 itself was equals to 30 years of advancements in technology. quite impressive for the first modern war.

  • technology is superb but war is such a fuck...g waste

  • I am finishing the process of converting a 1/125 scale replica to RC: the DD557 USS Johnston. Now at painting phase. Nice ships.

  • Johnston = The Shiz

The USS Samuel B. Roberts = Awesome!

  • Lets not forget the USS Laffey - The Ship that Would NOT Die!

  • hey ive been on tht ship. Charleston harbor. Patriots point is a nice place.

the fighting lady(yorktown) is their too...

  • The US fighter planes really made problems for the Japanese emperial navy then.

  • i dont wanna be that pilot in this plane :P 3:09

  • what about the tribal class??DD

  • where is HMS Warspite? She served two world wars fought at jutland, had more battledamage than any ship. She was in almost every major battle in both world wars!

  • she was a queen elizibath class, skip to number 3 on the list where she is mentioned

  • The HMS Warspite wasnt a Destroyer, but a Dreadnaught.

  • yes i know its a dreadnought,,,,why what did i say? :S

  • actually iv just checked,,,i said nothing about her being a destroyer,,,i said she was further up the list,,,this is a list of top ships not just top destroyers

  • i know she was!!

  • Comment removed

  • Handsome and well armed ships the little "can-do".

  • these were very nice looking ships

  • Ahhh, the Johnston. She lived and died according to the words mentioned here. Look up the the Battle of Leyte Gulf. There was a reason the IJN claimed they'd sunk a heavy cruiser when they finally managed to put her down.

  • Ya "ninja" but you have to remember that the destroyer was designed to be anti-aircraft ships and anti-sub ships for the carriers and battleships battle groups.

  • Yep, but boy, if they got close enough... 10 torpedoes would scare most vessles. Still they worked fantastic.

  • The small size and 10 torpedoes made them a serious threat. But as mentioned they was almost no armor to speak of and the 5" cannons were pitiful against heavily armored ships. Great against submarines.

As for speed, well the 36 knots is actually an overload by someting like 140% capacity.

  • amen. god bless us all.

  • Threat? Are you one of those people who joins into the bandwagon of hippy BS that the corporations are taking over the woooorld maaaan! Pathetic. The US's power and democracy has held the longest and most effectual peace ever recorded in human history, and the US has gained no - I REPEAT, ABSOLUTELY ZERO - land because of it.

    I'm Canadian, for the record.

  • I'm a sheep? You're saying the same thing everyone else like you says, poor spelling and all. Which by the way is a sign of a lack of intelligence. So how about this. Say what threat the US brings to the world. That's all. One sentence required.

I await either your hilariously flawed retort or your equally hilarious retreat.

  • As predicted, you laid a pathetically terrible retort and didn't accept my offer to say a one sentence summary of what threat the US presents. As such you are clearly not worth my time (not to imply before). If I wanted to hear someone call me a sheeple over and over without saying anything valuable such as how I'm wrong, I'd go post in a "9/11 was a government conspiracy" forum. No thanks. If you care for another reply making you look foolish, type a 1 sentence summary of what the US threat is

  • The main threat will probably be negated with Obama as president. Bush's "Bush Doctrine" stated that the US had the unitary right to bomb, attack or invade any country it wanted to, without warning to further America's interests. This was scary as it was first used by Hitler in 1938, Japan in 1936 and Italy in 1933. The idea of un-provoked war had been outlawed by the UN, and in fact was the primary reason for the UN's existence.

  • ifuckubitch, im jw, where exactly are you from?

  • no were not a threat, Sorry for trying do help shit. O wait it's that damn Lazy U.N that can't even Find a fucking way to deal with PIRATS! U.S Nazy already said Naval Blockade the damn place. but no U.N won't here of it.

  • The book, "Tin Can Sailors" describes a amazing battle that involved the USS Johnston and other undersized ships fighting the best Japan had to offer.

  • 3 American destroyers, 3 American destroyer escorts, and 3 American Jeep Carriers VS. Japanese super battleship 4 japanese battleships, 4 japanese cruisers, around 8 japanese destroyers. somehow through brave charges and strategy the Americans won the battle off Samar.

  • watch "dogfights- death of the Japanese navy"

  • Four ships have been preserved as museum ships:

USS Cassin Young (DD-793), in Boston, Massachusetts

USS The Sullivans (DD-537), in Buffalo, New York

USS Kidd (DD-661), in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

AT (Destroyer of Hellenic Navy) Velos (D-16) former USS Charrette (DD-581) in Faliro, Greece
