This sport is not that well appreciated when watched...you have to actually practice this in order to know and feel the excitement...cuz trying to watch two people using super thin swords to hit each other is not fun at all...most of the time I watch the score board more than anything else cuz the action is too fast and the swords are too thin to see who hit who first. I thought I would be able to see some Zorro sword epicness but nah...cant see nothing here.

I say, if you can be good at sports try a combat sport at a competitive level, very different experience and mindset than a team sport or a sport where you maneuver a vehicle. The limits one can push are relative to the activity.

And once a month I would stay at a complex where we would train a whole weekend from morning to noon, also ran a few miles daily, plus weights, plus the actual training which involves more cardio and resistance. From what you tell me, it seems like you do more than your friend, maybe that's why he's not tired at all, either that or his teacher is not a nazi exploiter or he's in really good shape. I'm not putting down any other sport
