Im a recovering agoraphobic also, like you i started taking baby steps and now i can go to the shops and use public transport to get to the next town and back!!. I have some tips of how i done it if anyone is interested email me. Djillusion@fastmail.fm
You can walk down the street - you just feel like you can't. Start by walking to the first lamp post, and then the second. Mail me rabid.badger@ntlworld.com if you need help x
hi ive been suffering for 18 months now ive just watched your blog,.. and i cant even walk down my street on my own i feel like im suffering alone,.. any advice ?? many thanks
@alriguez The frightening thing is that you don't trust in your body anymore when you have agoraphobia. You have experienced that it "snaps" in some way or another and you "cannot trust it anymore". You fear you may collapse somewhere or get a heart attack or something of that accord, and whether that happens whilst you're driving a car, riding a bicycle, going by train, walking in the streets, sitting in class, dance in a club or whatever - the fear of it just freaks you out.
Read the books of a late Australian Doctor CLAIRE WEEKES.I have had Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia for 20 years and I was also an Alcoholic.I am panic free for the past 5 years but it was NOT easy.I quit Alcohol, changed my diet drastically(no coffee,no sugar,no stimulants)I walk every day,do Yoga 3 times a week and do Budhist meditation every day in the morning and in the evening for 25 minutes each.I took Paxill and Klonopin for 2 years and I am off all meds since 2008.Read CLAIRE WEEKES books!
Please go to my channel and see my testimony. I used to suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and agarophobia. I have been set free for over 5 years. No meds, no "panic away" or "linden method". You can be set free too and it won't cost you a dime. GOD bless you all.
Try going outside wearing sunglasses and try to make yourself believe that you're partially invisible to others. I know this may sound childish but try to ignore that. And if it also helps try to develop (or increase) arrogance (on the inside; don't let it show).
@bobo1x would like some tips b/c someone i really care about is an agoraphobe. how are you holding up since this vid was made? any tips on supporting and caring would be appreciated. all the best to ya
I guess I was just trying to say that fear actually physically prevents me from being able to do things, from weakening my legs until I fall over, to emptying my bladder and bowels, to causing me to lose consciousness.
I think you are very brave, I thought my panic attacks were cured but Ive had a setback and find it difficult to leave my house but seeing how brave you are has inspired me to keep trying. For anyone who suffers from agoraphobia or panic attacks I highly reccomend reading anything by Dr Claire Weekes, her books have helped millions of sufferers make a full recovery.
@pinkcrystalhearts Thanks for the book recommendation, the comments and ratings on Amazon through and through confirm it. I shall give it a try. I have read a lot, and already make good progress, but I'm always eager to know more, not only to help me, but also to help others.
It may not be possible for you to be scared to death, but fear can cause you to pass out. The last couple times I tried to leave my home I ended up passing out from the panic attack, as well as having horrible wounds from my fingernails. I don't even remember digging them into my arm, but I still have faint little scars. I've been inside ever since and just started sharing my experiences on youtube. So, you might not die, but fear CAN physically prevent you from doing things entirely.
Hi. I am intrigued by your comment because it is relatively unusual to pass out during a panic attack. As you may be aware, in a physically healthy person, passing out is normally caused by hypotension (low blood-pressure), causing a drop in oxygen to the brain. When you have a panic attack, your blood-pressure rises so the brain receives more than enough oxygen.
Ah, sure, I guess you are talking about panic attacks as just the hyperventilating bit, and not the several-hour-long bouts of quivering and weeping and passing out and vomiting that are interspersed with bouts of intense hyperventilation. I don't know, I've never been able to get to a doctor about it, so I don't know what is and isn't supposed to be possible or what part of the horror is actually classified as the panic attack itself. I just know what happens to me.
i have to agree with bobo1x . during a panic attack your blood pressure actually increases making it some what impossible to actually pass out from it. Though it can occur from hyperventilating, if your one of those who do so.
Does anyone know any tricks to keep your mind occupied while riding the bus or train I tryed listening to my mp3 that that work I tryed reading a book that don't work I even tryed deep breathing and that don't work and people look at me like im crazy I have to ride the train and bus daily and I have a panic attack everyday and its killing me because my blood pressure shoot to dangerous levels when I panic they say panic attack can't kill you yeah right. Fear can kill you ABC news study
Fear can not kill you. To most people, a panic attack is no more harmful than a jog around the block. Of course your blood-pressure rises but not to dangerous levels. This is a natural response to adrenalin.
If you had an existing heart condition then maybe a panic attack could push you over the edge but it is not dangerous for your average person.
You are right to try and distract yourself and I always try to make words out of the letters on car number plates.
I have to respectfully disagree with you it is possible for a young healthy person to be scared to death you can look this info up yourself at yahoo or any other search engine. Dr. Martin A. Samuels, a neurologist at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston Its actually caused by your basic fight or flight stress response. In other words, when something scary and dangerous happens like, you get robbed, an earthquake hits, or you ride a monster rollercoaster- your body is
blasted by a rush of adrenaline. Its a save-your-life burst of chemicals that dilates your pupils so you can see better, primes your muscles for action, and speeds up your heart to deliver needed oxygen so you can fight or run away. For most people, once the scares over, the adrenaline dissipates.their heart slows down, and theyre
perfectly fine. However, for a few people, if theyre scared enough - and sure enough that theres no possible escape the jolt of chemicals can
physically damage their heart. The adrenaline acts more like a drug overdose or a lightning strike and it shocks their heart so badly, it literally stops. And I panic to that point when im on the train or bus I checked my blood pressure during a slight panic attack and it was 180 over 190 and I don't have hypertension. The M.E probably write a death that was really panic related off as one of the natural causes such as heart attack, stroke, aneurysms, etc doctors need to start taking it serious
With all respect to Dr Samuels, the response to fear is completely natural and occurs in everybody. The only thing that sets you aside as an anxiety suffererer is your perception of potential danger. There is very little you can teach me about the effects of adrenalin and I stand by my original comment that it will not hurt you if you are of an average disposition. Kind regards
Fair play to you i understand the effort to do what seems to besuch a easy task to somone not suffering from this,i started walking at nite late knowing i would meet less people and worked up to where you are, Thanks for posting this vid it helped me and alot more keep up the good work and hope it works out for you.

congrats for being strong and having the will to fight, I just wish I had a little more strength to fight a little harder...I know its all just a mental game and nothing more, but it is so darn hard to fight...
I hope so. I am finding recently, I've been dealing with really bad fatigue...I get sleepy and fatigued the more I try to fight my anxiety, in turn, making my anxiety worse...Anxiety is very brutal and life changing, my family either doesnt care anymore about my issue anymore or it's just too hard for them to deal with. now I feel it's just me, alone fighing for something that gets harder to reach. I just hate my life anymore. the harder you fight, the harder it gets, breathing problems etc...
It's something that's really hard to understand if you've never been there. I experience things now that I would have never believed possible 10 years ago - both psychological and physical.
Try not to think of it as "fighting" it because that really does drain your energy. I know it's hard but try to just accept that it's there and it's annoying and then concentrate on external things.

Smoking certainly is bad for anyone. Living life is dangerous however. I am just happy to see someone out there walking and trying to get better. Keep it up! Awesome Video!!!
I have the same problem: Did you know that smoking and drinking actually induce more anxiety as they are stimulants. this can with out knowing contribute making anxiety feelings stronger.
Alcohol is actually a central nervous system depressant. Makes you feel better for a while but then you get worse when it wears off due to Vitamin B deficiency.

I feel exactly the same, the thing that get me more nervous are the sounds i am very sensitive to them, and having a pannic attack. Also when i am outside you feel like a observator, like if you where watching a movie, that you dont belong to this world, like an alien.
Good for you! Your video reminds me of the walk I'm trying to do everyday to get smokes. No walk, no smokes. But it's terribly difficult. I hope you feel better soon. I've just started getting out after nearly 7 years inside. It's the shits, I know.
i'm considering it. I'm doing self exposure therapy similar to what I see here. It's crazy! I do it at night though. But if it interest you i'll take my cam, lol.
