I either get responses like this, i.e., phonics is a fragmented approach, or the opposite, I am not doing strict phonics. so apparently I am balanced enough to displease both camps. the Phonic Faces are one strategy that help kids understand reading. See Teaching Beginning reading (link above) or RtI: Reading Intervention sessions 1 and 2 to see how they are used as one strategy to facilitate meaningful reading. This child improved from below preprimer to primer reading in 4 sessions

This is a fragmented approach to learning. Phonics is not the answer.
