I still say that some of the best guitar work EVER comes from In Flames. But the only way to tell is to listen to the acoustic instrumental covers or Schehf's covers. Otherwise the guitars are mixed way down behind the crap vocals. I personally can do without the death growls. The voice is an instrument!

i miss the "mid" katatonia. i remember when BMD came out we were all tripping out since it was so different from DoDS. then we realzied how much drama there was within this record. a CLASSIC.

too bad that the NEW katatonia got somewhat commercail and lost their poetry.

Read Today's Opeth lyrics and compare them with the poetry from the first releases. I just think that now the lyrics are kind of gimmicky.... but that's just me...

Eh, I look at Still Life because I find the concept there stronger, it's all a matter of opinion.

I also agree with you that their poetry has changed, but so has their style. Their earlier albums had a different feel; a different feel requires different words. Besides, you can't write the same concept over and over again and expect people to keep listening to it :)

These vocals are done by Mikael Åkerfeldt the guy from Opeth. The previous album Dance Of December Souls which featured screams was Jonas Renkse the usual vocalist of Katatonia.

Unfortunately he did after the 1st albums recording and touring but there is a possibility his ability to scream has come back to him. I saw a video on youtube of him perfomring Murder in late 2005 and he was sounding as powerful as Dance Of December Souls.
