I think she made the mistake of saying that american fashion of eating DOES NOT cut up all the food at one time. I watched the other videos and they say american fashion is when one cuts up all their food, puts the knife on the upper part of the plate (spreader facing diner) and eats. What happened here?
there are CHILDren who are having trouble finding food to eat. here people are worried abt how to eat. if you dont give me the job because i didnt eat my food in an bloody capitalist manner. then go ahead ur missing my intellligence for your org or company lolz.
Additionally, historically the entree course was the "entry" course that was used to prep the diner's pallate for the main course (or the relevé course, which in English is the "relief" course). In French cooking, meals are served in courses like this to continously guide the tastebuds in a direction and enhance the flavor of a one dish to the next. However, in America the entree is confused with main course. Just a tidbit if you want to have a truly "formal" dinner.

Fantastic video. One additional point to note is that in a truly formal dinner, the entree is a course before the main or "roast" course. A true formal dinner in European style is appetizer/cocktail course, soup course, fish course, entree course, sherbet/sorbet course used for pallate cleansing, main course, salad course, and finally dessert course/coffee. Move the salad course to after the soup course in an American style formal dinner.
i definately like the European way of dininig better than the American.. takes such a long time to finish your meal.. because you have to put the fork down every now and than plus not the mention switching the fork every now and than its not very time efficient.. but i guess countries have different dining manner.. i think that Canada follows the European dinining manner because people here don't put the fork down every now and than or neither do they switch.. lol
@millantoo I'm not 100% sure, but in USA you would probably use your right hand (if you're right handed). In Europe, if you switch hands, you're almost considered a barbarian.
Exception: If you are used to the place and order the same thing a lot and know ahead of time how they prepare it, you may reach for the salt. Especially with friends. With new people put on the bullshit facade and eat a bite without salt.
My parents are European and I have grown up in a family that throws many parties and dinners. I disagree with some of the European etiquette techniques this lady is showing.
I guess it all depends on your culture and what part of Europe you are from, but I won't be following the methods shown here. What is shown is not proper etiquette as I know it.
Great info, but the food looks unhealthy. Greenbeans look limp, the chicken looks dry and the gravy on the potatoes looks fake. Another Etiquette thing to have is eatible food.
I was born & raised in the United States, near Washington DC, & in all of my 42 years I have yet to meet anybody who eats in the "American fashion" she describes at such length. Perhaps this is something confined to the diplomatic corps as something to set us aside from "the Europeans." But the average person I know tends to hold the fork in their dominant hand, cut with their other hand, assemble a bite with both fork and knife, and proceed to finish their meal gracefully. What pretentiousness.
@cascadejacques I'm also from the United States, from Southern California but I've lived in Texas and Las Vegas, too. Most commonly, I see people eating in the American Style as she describes it. When I was younger, I didn't understand European style and when I saw people eating that way I thought they were being rude and didn't have very good manners or etiquette. Just goes to show you how things can vary.
@strangeaslife As an Irishman, I find the American style to be needlessly complicated. It just shows that there are certainly different ways of doing things.
I like this lady's course because she's considerate of the waiters and waitresses. I cannot tell you how many times those stuck up and pretentious people follow those guide lines yet treat their wait-staff like crap (such as ignoring them when ask if they need a re-fill, blaming the waitstaff for their own mistakes)
Wow this is a bit too much. Specially when shes talking bout where to place your knife after u cut the food. Like relax nobody will judge u badly if youre knife is not at the top left of your plate and u didnt switch fork hands. Just eat the damn food lol

So what happens to the more than 60% of the world inhabitants who eat with their hands, chopsticks or spoons and forks? Are they rude or barbarians?

No offence, but the American way of dining is the most inefficient and silly way of dining I've ever seen.
