@jeffkodiac Yes and i often fired the M16 and its updated brother the M4, They fixed all of the major problems within the M4, Its lighter, its more confortable, and is the most customizable gun, which means it can be fitted for numerous missions. The Famas is not my least favorite gun, but it needs updated. You should have H&K get ahold of the famas, they could make that thing way better, after all H&K updated the L85A2 for the Brits, and the L85 was mediocre before, now its good.

The small British force fought well, but was only 5 divisions strong, compared with the 80 French divisions which won the battle of the Marne. Only later did the British empire really throw its full military weight on the battlefield. Salut !

Ce que tu dis à propos des U.S. Marines me fait penser à un reportage qui est passé sur M6, il y a 3 ou 4 ans, sur le Centre d'Aguerrissement de Kourou, en Guyane. À un moment, la voix off avait dit "Il fut un temps où les Marines s'entraînaient ici. Au bout de quelques années, les Américains ont abandonné. Trop dur".

La deuxième plus puissante au monde peut être la Russie, si on considère le nombre d'hommes (et de femmes ;-) ) et de matériels disponibles.
Mais bon, certaines unités envoyées en première ligne pendant la guerre en Géorgie avaient des armements, véhicules, équipements et tenues de combat datant des années 60 ou 70. T'imagines un peu le bazar : un fantassin Russe aurait pu se retrouver avec treillis, flingue, etc. que son père et son grand-père avaient utilisés avant lui ...
En plus, quand les Russes ont avancé, leur nombre a fait reculer les Géorgiens, qui ont du quitter certaines de leurs casernes en tout hâte.
Les Russes sont arrivés dans une de ces casernes (une caserne de la 5ème Division mécanisée de l'Armée Géorgienne, si je me souviens bien), et quand les Géorgiens sont revenus, ils se sont aperçu que leurs collègues Russes avaient TOUT chouré, jusqu'aux bassines que les bidasses Géorgiens utilisaient pour mettre de l'eau chaude et se raser ...

@Briselance J'ai des origine russe mais qui remonte a fort lointain car quand ont regarde ma famille j'ai un ariére grand pére qui etait dans le 1er regiment de dragon et sont frére dans le garde imperial plus mon grand pére qui durant la WW2 etait dans la FFI.

For the little story, the manner the media covered the evenments was, as often, a shame : without the professionalism of the French troops and theere would have been an Ivorian blood bath. The 2 SU-25 that attacked the French position were destroyed after their landing at Abidjan Airport by Milan missiles shot from a French position on the airport. Tthe crews (bielorussians mercenaries with Ivorian copilots) were arrested. After the destruction of the 2 SU-25, 1 MI-24 took off and started to straff the French position from where the Milans were fired but was shot down by a VAB with a 20mm gun. Later 2 other SU25, 3 MI24 , 1 MI8 & 1 Puma were simply disabled in their hangar.

I have just a reserve on the destruction of the Ivorian Air Force and pictures of French chase planes taking off from the Charles de Gaulle: French aviation was for nothing in this. The only French air support if you except helicopters was 3 Mirage F1 based in Libreville & they never took off.

What did France gain from his years of conquest apart from 100s of thousands of deaths. All his territorial gains were lost, the French Navy was destroyed. France was reduced to third world status. Napoleon was well treated by his captors who would normally have executed him, instead he was allowed to live. Napoleon was a LOSER. no hero.

He dominated Europe for 15 years WOW, he did not dominate anyone except France, he fought a few battles and killed tens of thousand of soldiers and civilians. Every nation he "dominated" was in instant and continuous rebellion against him. He really dominated Russia didn't he, he dominated them so well that he lost an entire army and 450,000 troops in the process.

Napoleons invasion of Russia was not the first disaster brought about by his ego. His invasion of Egypt was another example, Nelson followed the invasion fleet and destroyed it at the battle of the Nile.
The great genius had NO WAY of getting his army back to France. So what did he do? he abandoned the army to its own fate while he took a ship back to the safety of France. How can you possibly say that this man was a great general, he was in every way a DISASTER.

Ridiculous, "Napoleon was stopped by himself". Napoleons ego ultimately bought him down. That and the fact that Wellington was an infinitely better general. When you are a general or an emperor you cannot use excuses like "he wasn't feeling good". Wellington beat Napoleon at every turn, he beat him in India, in Spain and at Waterloo. How can you be a great general and invade a country with 500,000 troops only to retreat within a year losing 450,000 along the way. You cant and Napoleon wasn't.

Not sure on this channel argument. It was the channel that prevented larger volumes of British forces from getting to france in 39-40. We had an 'expedition force' only. No one can ever say what would have been the result if the landmasses were linked.
The "expedition force" was all britain was able to muster. If Hitler has reached Paris in 6 weeks, without the Channel, He could do so as easily. British army was as outdated than french army in 1940 against panzerdivision might.
The fall of france occurred because the belgium government surrendered their army (at the time it was huge and they had a part to defend) exposing the channel ports, and allowing the Germans to encircle the expedition forces. Had the same occurred in WW1 .. it would have meant disaster for the allies.
Nevertheless, had the land masses been joined you would have found the entire history of europe would have been different... Would Napoleon succeeded? Would Britain have kept France? etc etc etc.
Well it's simple: If the channel had not existed, Britain would have developed a stronger Army instead of relying on its Navy... its history would have been more like France's.

@jeffkodiac Yes and i often fired the M16 and its updated brother the M4, They fixed all of the major problems within the M4, Its lighter, its more confortable, and is the most customizable gun, which means it can be fitted for numerous missions. The Famas is not my least favorite gun, but it needs updated. You should have H&K get ahold of the famas, they could make that thing way better, after all H&K updated the L85A2 for the Brits, and the L85 was mediocre before, now its good.

The small British force fought well, but was only 5 divisions strong, compared with the 80 French divisions which won the battle of the Marne. Only later did the British empire really throw its full military weight on the battlefield. Salut !

Je le répète : Nous nous sommes bien battus, mais ça ne nous a pas empêché de morfler copieusement.

Mais bon, certaines unités envoyées en première ligne pendant la guerre en Géorgie avaient des armements, véhicules, équipements et tenues de combat datant des années 60 ou 70. T'imagines un peu le bazar : un fantassin Russe aurait pu se retrouver avec treillis, flingue, etc. que son père et son grand-père avaient utilisés avant lui ...

Les Russes sont arrivés dans une de ces casernes (une caserne de la 5ème Division mécanisée de l'Armée Géorgienne, si je me souviens bien), et quand les Géorgiens sont revenus, ils se sont aperçu que leurs collègues Russes avaient TOUT chouré, jusqu'aux bassines que les bidasses Géorgiens utilisaient pour mettre de l'eau chaude et se raser ...

The 2 SU-25 that attacked the French position were destroyed after their landing at Abidjan Airport by Milan missiles shot from a French position on the airport. Tthe crews (bielorussians mercenaries with Ivorian copilots) were arrested. After the destruction of the 2 SU-25, 1 MI-24 took off and started to straff the French position from where the Milans were fired but was shot down by a VAB with a 20mm gun. Later 2 other SU25, 3 MI24 , 1 MI8 & 1 Puma were simply disabled in their hangar.

I have just a reserve on the destruction of the Ivorian Air Force and pictures of French chase planes taking off from the Charles de Gaulle: French aviation was for nothing in this. The only French air support if you except helicopters was 3 Mirage F1 based in Libreville & they never took off.

De Gaulle was asked by one of his ministers about what he thought of the French ex-royal family and the Bonapartes (n°1 & 2). Answer: "The French kings built a major European nation. Both Napoleons, whatever good they did in civilian administration & economy, found France great and prosperous, and left it ruined and diminished".
Yet Napoleon, as a warlord and strategist, stands out in history.

So I am like dust in a flat am I. Why don't you explain why your brilliant general left the French nation in such a terrible state when he was finally put away. What did France gain from his years of conquest apart from 100s of thousands of deaths. All his territorial gains were lost, the French Navy was destroyed. France was reduced to third world status. Napoleon was well treated by his captors who would normally have executed him, instead he was allowed to live. Napoleon was a LOSER. no hero.

Empires rise and fall... What Napoleon achieved is just huge and far beyond many generals have done in history... He finally lost it against the whole of Europe's coalition after 15 years of sheer dominance of Europe... Nobody ever dominated Europe as much as he did and he did so taking over the French nation after the revolution which had bleeded and ruined France for years... You call this a loser? Come on... Even the Brits historians and military experts admit he was a genius...

What did Napoleon achieve? NOTHING.
He dominated Europe for 15 years WOW, he did not dominate anyone except France, he fought a few battles and killed tens of thousand of soldiers and civilians. Every nation he "dominated" was in instant and continuous rebellion against him. He really dominated Russia didn't he, he dominated them so well that he lost an entire army and 450,000 troops in the process.
It takes a real genius to do that

Napoleons invasion of Russia was not the first disaster brought about by his ego. His invasion of Egypt was another example, Nelson followed the invasion fleet and destroyed it at the battle of the Nile.
The great genius had NO WAY of getting his army back to France. So what did he do? he abandoned the army to its own fate while he took a ship back to the safety of France. How can you possibly say that this man was a great general, he was in every way a DISASTER.

Militairement parlant, se sont les prussiens qui donnent le coup de grasse a la grande armée, moins d'une heure de plus aurais suffit pour que les Français prennent les positions Anglaises (que se serait-il passé ??).
Wellington était a deux doigt de sonner la retraite, c'est un fait établi pas une théorie.

pour moi la campagne de Russie n'a pas causé la perte de l'empire, elle n'en fut que l'effet, la cause est antérieure (la mort de Lannes ??).
Quoi qu'il en soit je reste persuadé que Blücher et surtout Wellington sont des usurpateurs.

Je fais surtout référence a l'état de santé de l'empereur (physique et mental) qui a beaucoup affecté son jugement, la météo très défavorable aux assaillants (les Français) et les fautes plus ou moins graves de généraux pourtant plus que confirmés, comme la charge (sacrifice ?) du Maréchal Ney ou le manque de discernement de Grouchy face aux problème de communications qui l'on emmené a dissoudre 30.000 hommes dans la nature au lieu de les opposer a Blücher.

Ridiculous, "Napoleon was stopped by himself". Napoleons ego ultimately bought him down. That and the fact that Wellington was an infinitely better general. When you are a general or an emperor you cannot use excuses like "he wasn't feeling good". Wellington beat Napoleon at every turn, he beat him in India, in Spain and at Waterloo. How can you be a great general and invade a country with 500,000 troops only to retreat within a year losing 450,000 along the way. You cant and Napoleon wasn't.

The bastards who helped the Nazis were a special police called "la Milice", which was considered very badly by the population (75% of Jews in France survived). I said "special" because a lot of policemen saved some Jews (like in Nancy). The first French soldiers who rejoined Charles de Gaulle in June 1940 were the survivors of the Battle of Narvik. You can see some French cemeteries in Narvik, but also in Kapelle (Netherlands) and Venafro (Italy), you idiot.

In WW2 the Wehrmacht was the best trained and equipped Army of the World.
Germany nearly fought against the whole world for 6 years. The same Soldiers builded the Bundeswehr... think about it.

Whimpy asses ? Did you know that, after the campaign of 1940, the Germans lost 1800 tanks out of 3000, 1400 planes out of 3500 ? Did you know that during the 1940 campaign, the Heer (German Army) lost 49000 men (killed) and had 111000 wounded ?
IF you don't believe me, just have a look on the German military archives, in Freiburg im Breisgau. Just read the works of Karl-Heinz Frieser, a German historian, who wrote interesting stuffs about French Army in WW2.

Not sure on this channel argument. It was the channel that prevented larger volumes of British forces from getting to france in 39-40. We had an 'expedition force' only. No one can ever say what would have been the result if the landmasses were linked.

The "expedition force" was all britain was able to muster. If Hitler has reached Paris in 6 weeks, without the Channel, He could do so as easily. British army was as outdated than french army in 1940 against panzerdivision might.

The fall of france occurred because the belgium government surrendered their army (at the time it was huge and they had a part to defend) exposing the channel ports, and allowing the Germans to encircle the expedition forces. Had the same occurred in WW1 .. it would have meant disaster for the allies.
Nevertheless, had the land masses been joined you would have found the entire history of europe would have been different... Would Napoleon succeeded? Would Britain have kept France? etc etc etc.
