The only person who really lost anything here was Darko.

There's hardly any Euro players whose game didn't translate well in the NBA but unfortunately Darko's always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully he'll be a force again back in Serbia. And the only reason Detroit had that first round pick was due to some trade with Vancouver but they ended up with a balanced roster. That's why they drafted low at the second pick instead of high.

Throwing in a high draft pick into that mix is too big a risk.

You shouldn't expect anyone to have decent stats when they're only given five or less minutes a night to play either.

@jaranarm Dude are you telling me if they picked chris bosh,melo or dwade they would not have started any of those players??He did not start for a reason because he could not outplay Rasheed or Ben Wallace in practice and the coaches knew that,Nba teams are worth millions of dollars you do not think every player has access to coaches to improve their game?If he came in right away and dominated in practice and showed potential any coach would see that and give the player the minutes they earned.

@purplekushsurfer The Pistons made it to the conference finals the year before with the players they already had. The last thing they want is to risk ruining that chemistry by developing a rookie to take minutes away from their starters. Detroit made six straight conference finals appearances and two finals appearances without Melo, Bosh or Wade (who thankfully went to more suitable teams). The only person who really lost anything here was Darko.

@jaranarm I know how many Eastern conference finals the pistons made but your ignoring my point,I said if they happened to draft cb4,melo or wade they would rot on the bench for 2 seasons,Then go to Orlando and average like 7 points and 4 rebounds when finally given a chance to play,Admit it he was not worthy of where he was drafted,Given how deep that draft was he was a second rounder.A old Elden Campbell played more minutes than Darko which is pathetic and there is no excuse for that...

@purplekushsurfer Going to Orlando as a backup to Howard? More rotten luck. There's hardly any Euro players whose game didn't translate well in the NBA but unfortunately Darko's always in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hopefully he'll be a force again back in Serbia. And the only reason Detroit had that first round pick was due to some trade with Vancouver but they ended up with a balanced roster. That's why they drafted low at the second pick instead of high.

@jaranarm Ummm he actually played 20 and 24 minutes with Orlando and put up sub par numbers if he was as great as you proclaim he would have done a lot more in those given minutes,Orlando had no front court depth that 06-07 season and he was brought in too play alongside Howard and only started 16 games,He started in 64 games for Memphis and played almost 25 minutes and his stats didn't go up in fact he shot a lousy 42 % very nice for a center LOL,

Dumars knew Darko was not up to the standard as the other guys in that draft because Detroit didn't need a high draft prospect with the team they had and felt he would be in the franchise's future later on. Things didn't turn out that way. And Detroit doesn't need a guy like Bosh, they still need Billups. If they're kicking themselves for anything its because they traded him away.

@purplekushsurfer This isn't about adding depth to your team, it's about keeping the chemistry you already have with the winning team you got. Darko, Melo, Wade, etc. it doesn't matter who, if Detroit played any of them for 10-15 minutes a night to develop them it could cost them that chemistry. Campbell was with the team coming off the bench as a proven serviceable veteran when they were winning so of course they'd play him more. Throwing in a high draft pick into that mix is too big a risk.
