I was a 10 year old kid when Red Alert was released, and my native language is not English so I didn't understand much of the game's text or speech. I still really loved the game, it had astonishing graphics at that time imo, I really loved the Soviets vs Allies alternative future (or history) -theme... Yes the game was dark, gritty and pretty realistic in many ways. It really had a soul, it sure is one of the most memorable games I've ever played. I haven't touched RA2 or RA3, and I won't :p

That's why Blizzard waited 20 years to make a sequel of Starcraft, you can't just make a sequel (more like remake) of an EPIC game, and less the way EA made it. Man, EA, wtf did you do? you fucked up these series. The only one good thing after RA was released was its expansion, wich was made by Weestwood, and wich results funny because Starcraft had also an expansion with its respective new units.

I know Red Alert was always a bit campy and over the top (with time travel and futuristic technology in the past), but for some reason I preferred the original approach, which seemed to at least be somewhat subtle about it. RA2 and RA3 just seem to have a whole different feel than the original.

Lol you guys basing your political beliefs about communism on what you see here are just as bad as the people praising the USSR on some of the Red Alert/USSR anthem videos who talk about how awesome Soviet-R was. Instead of just going by what you see portrayed in video games and hear in the media, how about reading actual history and what Marx and "communist" leaders actually wrote? While I agree with your overall point, Stalin adhered far more closely to Marx, Engels, and his ideological predecessors than almost anyone cares to admit for whatever reason. For instance, take a look at the ethnic cleansing of the Ukraine, parts of the Baltic states, and a good chunk of Siberia by Lenin and Trotsky.

Stalin was a monster, but he was only the most obvious example, not the only one. And Marx and Engels were not as benign as they seemed if you actually DID read their literature.

I know quite MANY things about the USSR- from reading books and even firsthand- i even spoke with some victims of Stalin which survived.

Obviously, you have never studied the actual results of Soviet tyranny and Communism as a political system. Now, I do believe the numbers are rather inflated (taking the total who died for whatever reason in the time period rather than those whose deaths can be directly attributed to the subject in question), but on the whole they are fairly accurate.

While I personally believe that Fascism and Communism were indeed both offshoots of the Collectivist Left in authoritarian directions (and this is hardly an uncontested belief), they were distinctly antagonistic and mutually exclusive, as you would recognize if you ever studied Fascist and Communist propaganda and rhetoric.
