@MissQuirkyQuinn I'd like to mention that Claudio's singing voice changes depending on which character's viewpoint he is singing from o.o His comment about his voice being whiney, girly, and little is a true statement in the sense that he does sing in a more feminen tone for a good portion of his female characters' parts, and he does emphasise emotion with that tone. Considering the context and setting of this song, I can, as someone who worships ALL of Claudio's music, understand his reasoning.

I think that you just have to listen to YOTBR a few times to really begin to love it. I know that is what happened to me. There are some really great songs on the album. It isn't quite as EPIC as the others, but it def. doesn't suck.

The whole thing started in 98 when Claudio went to France and was going to document the trip into an album and decided to write the album based on his whole life...including the people in it, without using real names. People wouldn't hate when a band goes mainstream if their music changes along with them. Look at Fall Out Boy compare their Take this to your grave album and their Infinity on High Album. @kippybot when most bands become mainstream they lose there ability to make the amazing music they used to be able to, they are forced to put out music in a short time frame, so the quality isnt as good, a good example is the band Tool, they release not few songs, but not many, but the quality is amazing.
@UnicyclistRTB I dont know if you would quite call it mainstream...well atleast where I live. They do play them on the radio....but extremely rarely. They are mainstream enough to be on the radio...but not quite enough that its constant all day everyday.

Atreyu seems to be doing well but some bands totally change their style when they go main stream to "appeal to a broader audience." That said I think Coheed can handle it because its what makes them different that gives them their appeal. Also they already are know among most circles.

@rath223 selling out is not the same as going mainstream. Going mainstream is, in and of itself, nothing to be ashamed of. When a band sells out and starts to change its style to stay at the top of the charts, though, the quality of their music usually declines.

SSTB, that is their best, but Good apollo I and II, and Silent Earth: 3 were close to it in amazingness!

But, I'll admit, I usually start to get irritated when people make a lot of fuss over something that I like too. And it's not that I think that I'm REALLY better than them. But sometimes a person will get sick of someone else obsessing over it for so long and so hard. Guess people have different levels of fandom that either sit well or don't sit well with some people so they give it up for a while

@kippybot I totally agree with you but I think the 'mainstream' comment is meant to refer to the band not changing their sound to sell records. If C&C got very popular with the same ethos they have now that's awesome however if they changed what they were for sales.... i'd lose interest as I think you would.

@kippybot that's the thing if a band goes mainstream their music somewhat changes to the point that It's an entirely different band. People wouldn't hate when a band goes mainstream if their music changes along with them. Look at Fall Out Boy compare their Take this to your grave album and their Infinity on High Album. You'll see a great change.

@ThriceDog I have one thing to say...Zeppelin...Floyd...The Doors....Rush who had a major influence on c&c all were mainstream bands...also the effin beatles who influenced all of rock were mainstream bands...and they all made it on their sound just because cookie cutter america mass manufactures cock rock doesn't mean the greats won't come people just need to open their eyes and ears and listen again that's all

It's not their fault, they are pressured by the industry that signed them, so yes I do find gratification in being a fan of something that isn't part of this lollipop shit they try to feed us. I'm not a fan of rap but coming from Toronto, Drake always put out good music with a meaningful message, now that he's with Lil Wayne he's just another dumbass making money. Coheed would change if they entered the mainstream.

@kippybot when most bands become mainstream they lose there ability to make the amazing music they used to be able to, they are forced to put out music in a short time frame, so the quality isnt as good, a good example is the band Tool, they release not few songs, but not many, but the quality is amazing.

@kippybot It all depends on the integrity of the band and the influence of the record company. Atreyu seems to be doing well but some bands totally change their style when they go main stream to "appeal to a broader audience." That said I think Coheed can handle it because its what makes them different that gives them their appeal. Also they already are know among most circles.

@rath223 selling out is not the same as going mainstream. Going mainstream is, in and of itself, nothing to be ashamed of. When a band sells out and starts to change its style to stay at the top of the charts, though, the quality of their music usually declines.

@dcompton2009 They became popular BECAUSE they are amazing, because they can get a huge fanbase strictly on their amazing talent, unlike other bands that have to change to speak to a large fanbase. Coheed is just amazing, always will be (though YOTBR wasn't up to their usual amazing standards in my opinion). SSTB, that is their best, but Good apollo I and II, and Silent Earth: 3 were close to it in amazingness!
