maklekan, I agree entirely. Angel's Egg was great and Patlabor 2 is possibly the most socially important animated film in existence. I am sad neither of which(his best work) is mentioned.

this guy kinda ruined my dream because a few days ago i read this interview he had and they asked him what would he recomend to those anime creators? soemthign liek that and oshii was like- I'd say dont do it they should give up and the guy interviewing was like why? ohssi said''because it's hard you dont get money and you'll lose all you'r friends I was like :O WTF!! the interview guy asked him somethin lik then how come you are a animator? oshii was like Well I don care wether I lose ma frins
Honestly I almost felt from my chair I was like what in the fuck is this dude talking about honestly when I read that he's ''Ghost'' got into my spirit and gave me a really bad stress and depression coz that shit was wack idk but i feel like oshii is one of those intelligent guys but that only existed to create he's wacko and ko koo idk soemthin about him creeps me out and ghost in the shell is like a very emotionless anime even though its good it's so emotionless I think oshi and da anime r =
'Ghost' and 'Soul' are not synonymous - In the GITS universe, 'ghost' was termed specifically to differentiate from the spiritual 'soul'. A 'ghost' is simply the part of an individual from which they derive their identity. Their 'sense of self'. Whether or not characters, be they human, cyborg or otherwise, have a spiritual 'soul' is not discussed, because humans themselves do not even know that THEY have one. I believe the 'soul' is simply a misinterpretation of consciousness.

I've noticed a lot of characters in the Ghost in the Shell series say something along the lines of "my ghost is whispering to me", so it makes me inclined to believe their associating it with their intuitition, or sub-consciousness (which is what i believe the intuition is), and that could perhaps be what you're talking about when you say "Part of an individual from which they derive their identity".
