You're slightly wrong, mate. The general agreement is that a Geordie is someone who was born and raised "within spitting distance of the River Tyne". That includes Newcastle, Gateshead (as shitty as it is), North and South Tyneside.

You're right about Northumberland and further south though. They're not Geordies in the slighest.

2:) "Why aye man" is a phrase commonly associated with the area. As I am not a Geordie, I don't know what it exactly means, but all around the north of England and Scotland, the word "Aye" is another word for "Yes".

"Aye" is "yes" in Scots English.

Word of a Scotsman! Don't know 'bout the Geordie translation. Geordies and Scots are far more different than what you might believe.
