I used to do that years ago until someone borrowed my dehydrator and never brought it back. Over here, I was told to use flank steak. I keep thinking about one of those fancy square black dehydrators that growingyourgreens sells. They want a fortune for dehydrated veggies and onions here. The local market even sells buffalo and jerky. It's very good. Even made turkey jerky once. After watching your last video, you might consider chicken jerky! LOL
@mediamaker2000 LOL - don't you hate that when you loan something... then realises 10 years later and can't remember WHO you loaned it to? I have seen those fancy black dehydrators.. they look good have you looked on ebay? I"m gonna try Kangaroo Jerky sometime soon.. that should be fun :) LOL to the chicken jerky...
I made some last year. I bought a beef round from Holco cost me about $30 this is definitely a good option using rump steak. Makes me want to do it again!
@thehittmann1981 I'm gonna go get some bulk Kangaroo meat next time and give that a whirl... I lived on ONLY kangaroo meat for all of my meat dishes for 3 months a few years back... it was GOOD.. but I never did Jerky... Shall do a vid when i get around to doing it.
@bnbob01 LOL - one of our friends came over and did a taste test and together he and chris almost ate the lot! Hahaha re the manicure.. yes i'm a nailbiter (doh).. The meat ended up fine, in fact Chris liked it more than he thought he would. He usually uses round steak (cheaper) but it wasn't rich tasting at all. There was ginger, that's what I was grating, all combined it's just that touch spicy which is great. We store ours in those takeaway containers in the cupboard, it lasts forever!
@bnbob01 OH... i haven't tried that no.. but I haven't yet started growing any.. not sure if it would grow down here but I hope so... It is on the 'list' :)
@Allen2045 Yes he sliced the first one to show how he does it and I did the rest. If you cut it thicker, you run the risk of it not drying out in the middle and if not eaten quickly it could be a breeding ground for some nasties. It will also take less time to dry out so you can eat it faster!
@Watsamadoing I might give it another try and have the beef slightly frozen so I can cut it extra thin. Need to get a decent knife. My knifes suck. :-)
Can't wait to try making this jerky...great video.

What kind of creature was that at the end? He sounded mighty hungry ! LOL
mhpgardener 7 months ago
@mhpgardener the creature I think was chris' belly cause he 'devoured' most of it as soon as it came out of the dehydrator :)

Very tastey looking recipe! I have never made jerky before, homemade must be so much better than storebought.
gardenvespers777 7 months ago
@gardenvespers777 Ooh yeah.. the store bought is much less flavoursome.

Good clip Karen but I think you need an independent tester to verify the taste.. My addy is _________ : )»
I noticed you had a manicure just after slicing ; D» is the meat a tad rough in the skin ???
Have you tried Ginger in there ?? Looking for a way to store ours other than the freezer...
Have a great one....

I did not cut my beef thin enough. Yours looks good. Was that your other half doing the cutting?
