Hello, I really enjoyed your explanation and have only a little correction.At the end you calculate: 0.009 / 0.1575, but that is 0.0571428571 so rounded 5.7%.
I get a different answer... -----------using an example------------------------------ In a sample of 1000 people 1% (10) have the disease. Of these ten, 9 will be identified by the test (1 will fail to identify) Also, 15 people will test positive for the disease, falsely. Therefore: No of positive tests = 9+15 = 24 No of real cases in that sample = 9 Probability of test being accurate for a positive result = 9/24 = 0.375 = 37.5%

why are you multiplying the parent branch with the child branch to get the probability of the child branch, e.g. branch 1 or 3?
The probabilities of all four children branches should sum up to 1.
D->T branch, which is 1, has 0.009
D->T' branch, which is 2, has 0.001
D'->T branch, which is 3, has 0.15
D'->T' branch, which is 4, has 0.84
Then the answer is simple:
0.009/(0.009+0.15)
= 5,7%

Michaelmelnychuk is correct. 0.009/0.1575 = 0.05714. Hopefully, the idea is what is important, not my arithmetic!
