Was this done in NYC - maybe at Mark Morganelli's Jazz Forum? I did get to hear Philly Joe live w/Charles Davis at a small club in the Village - Star and Garter. Tommy Turrentine was there that night but didn't sit in.
Thanks for the quick response! I wish I could have been there - I do feel fortunate to have heard Philly Joe with Dameronia at a club long gone - Lush Life, as well as an incredible tribute to Tadd Dameron at Alice Tully Hall in '88. He will always be a favorite of mine and I can't thank you enough for posting these clips. Thanks a million - this has made my day; I thought there was no other Philly Joe out there besides the video with Bill Evans, Marc Johnso.
Philly Joe is my all time favorite!!!! He's the guy who's had the biggest impact on me as a drummer! There are other youtubes to check out with Philly Joe. One with Monk and one with Sun Ra I believe.
What a sound and what a touch, sometimes with just one snare hit I can tell its HIM! Otherworldly, they broke the mold after Philly Joe.

1978, I think, and the tune they eventually go into is Killer Joe.

Yeah Charles is on tenor for sure. I have this whole set on tape and Philly Joe introduces him.

word, never heard him on tenor

Yeah he plays tenor. I have some friends that work with him in NYC where he plays tenor.

To me he's more known as a tenor player than baritone... And a marvellous one to boot!
