  • Where did you get those references?

  • What is your first tutorial? I just got 3ds max design 2012 and I'm still trying to learn how to use it.

  • How do you, bring the front viewpoint and the left viewpoint side by side?

i have all 4 viewpoints and would like to have 2 like you.. please help, i just startet with 3dsmax

  • Good job !

  • THe main reason is Box Modeling would be perfect for what I have in mind. The problem is, how do I make them into completely separate, unmerged pieces (Head, Upper Torso, Lower Torso and legs, shoulders, arns, boots. In this fashion?)

  • Question: How do you subdivide up the polygons in to more verts in 3DSMAX? It would be very helpful, Cause I have a character I want to model who has a very simple design. He has an almost Iconospheric torso design and a lot of sharp, triangular points.

  • OMG! I'm deaf! You'll be hearing from my lawyer sir. Phone on vibrate for all future vids. =)

  • @bnewton81 SSSSSSSS

  • i want to dl your vid but its cutted=(

  • the video is cutted=(

  • thank you this was very helpful for me.

  • Goood !!! Very GOOD MAN !!

You Helped me a lot ! Thank you ...

That Modeling is More artistic Than any Modeling !

  • ANYONE THAT CAN MAKE CHARACTER FOR ME??

PM ME AND I WILL EXPLAIN MORE!!! PLEASE NEED HELP!!!!

  • mrunkash si pod nosa kato nekfo tupo pedalche govori iasno be kalaf !

  • Great work Iwkya! I have your same alarm on my phone. It hella scared me when it went off haha.

  • Change my pitch up, smack my box up.

  • hi, could you tell me why my image isn't showing up on a certain view?

  • Which version of 3D Studio Max are you using here?

  • Which version of 3D Studio Max are you using here?

  • @IndieGameDevCorner

Tanks! i really didnt nkew that

  • is this simular to the modeling in 3dxmax also?

  • ...You should've also shown people how to set up the images like that in the program.

  • Quick comment- you don't have to switch viewports to extrude- all you have to do is select the single face by using select crossing as opposed to select window and then extruding the face. It takes a bit of practice, but it's not that hard.

  • Sorry if you've posted this before in the comments- I didn't find it (not that I searched too hard). Where did you get the blueprint images from?

    Great tutorial!

  • up the boro!

  • dude i have a problem with 3ds max plz help me see my channal :( its very annouying :(

  • thanks a lot man , this helped much.

  • i thought it was easy but it's not XD

  • where do you get a good backgrounde

  • I noticed Prodigy playing inthe background, excellent choice!

  • Hi

so basically..,I can make a 3D model of myself with this software?

Using pics of me and converting them in 3D?...using these pics as textures or something and cover them over 3D models?

  • teach us wat you are gud in :{

  • loved and laughed my head off at the "hold on!! what the fuck???comment.

said that phrase so many times at the moment while im trying to learn.cheers for the tutorials mate, really helpful to me.

  • Problem. i downloaded a free 3d human model from internet, and i wanted to make an animation, but i cant rig it! when i click the object, Its just says "Dummy" on the modifyer! Help!

  • @finlandSanX Im sure its not the first time you've been called a dummy

  • first of all, thanks for doing these vids. Very helpful.

Now isnt there some easier way to use those blueprints than assigning them as a texture to two planes? Ive only been looking at pictures through redering>view image file. Very difficult and not as precise. Also, it would be great if you did a tutorial on basic navigation in max. Not many people do those, and im having trouble with it. All I can use is the stupid wheel thing.. and its very frustrating.

  • So you used two planes in the backround with the blueprints and just added the pictures as a texture to them? isnt there some easier way to do that?

  • couldnt hear u.. what technique for sculpting r u using? instead of box sculpting

  • Just a continuation to my previous comment, the actual content in the tutorial was really helpful, so don't take my comment badly, maybe thats just your normal voice.

  • @liamsp544 thanks for the comment although it is my normal voice. Sometimes i am very tired doing these, this was prob one of those days. Hope it helped tho :)

  • @iwkya1 Yeah I kind of thought so after thinking for a bit. Sorry if my first comment sounded judgmental, and when I thought for a bit then came back and completely watched it, it turns out to be a great tutorial. Thanks!

  • Ok tutorial, but you should speak up and try to feel more confident.

  • Those are Andrew Loomis drawings.

  • is 3d max better or maya 2009

  • @pklooo max!!!

  • when im mirroring the mirrored part of the body keeps on moving in regular intervals so i cant match it correctly ;/ how can i make the cursor move freely when mirroring?

  • why didnt u post the exact link to the template? :./

  • smack that bitch up

  • i hear prodigy in the background :)

  • @kingdragon702 perspective view should be their already. if not, go to the options of one of the viewports, and click "perspective". Click and Hold down your middle mouse button, then drag. That should orbit perspective view

  • @kingdragon702 oh my god you have no idea. xD wait til you start mapping

  • @kingdragon702 Yeah perspective view. ;)

  • @kingdragon702 You have to click Editable Poly, then go into "Modify". Then, scroll down to extrude. Click it, then click on the polygons fac and pull back, To add more Polygons, just chang the number of segments. :) Pm me if it doesnt work.

And also, what 3D view? You mean the Perspective view...?

  • how do you connect the mirror later on?

  • i have no idea how to extrude. He doesnt tell

  • @cory18011801 Converty to an Editable Poly then go to Extrude. :)

  • how can i paste jpeg file into 3DSM 9? if i drag and drop it will be pasted for backround, not a workplace, pls help... (sry for my bad english)

  • Is that "Smack My Bitch Up" in the background? :D

  • What did you do in 4.50? The result was a smoothed object... But what exactly did you you? ^^' Sry, I don't know much about modelling in 3dsmax. X')

  • What did you do in 4.54? Did you use a smoothfunction?

  • 1 minute blabla

  • i hear prodigy

  • thanks a bunch dude! was both educating and you little "f**k" outbursts and stuff like that made it VERY fun to watch aswell :) great job keep doing those maybe add some tuts about different kinds of modeling textures etc would be awsome

  • Prodigy rulezzzz haha :D

  • hi, very useful video, is there any cahance in you sending me them two pics you used (front and side views). thankyou

  • lmfao why is the line (at 1:10) going from his dick to the other guy's ass?! XDDD

  • Box modeling while smacking bitches up.

  • You could always just slice the faces if extruding is such a problem, then moves the vertices around.

  • Roflmao, nvm i fixed it, tried put it to material and than to a plane, now continuingg

  • Any more basic tutorial about this? I don't really know how i would get your setup you've in start (with the 2 pictures that you line up your cubes for modeling).

If i make a character from the side and front of it, i save them as JPG? (and what size btw?), but then how i import them to 3D max?

I tried import them normally, but it just showed up like pixels (i'd it on PNG file).

Do i've to add a plane and material with the texture or what?

    Any tutorial about this!?!?

  • iwkya1, ANY google jpeg or a self made camera photo can be modeled and animated in 3d max, please?

  • er, im assuming it was a question cus of the question mark, but its worded like a statment. Sup bro ?

  • Obviously you helped me a lot, how poor your soul is, men.

  • @metzGRR

Make sure the box has edit poly, and you have the select face selected, then select the face you want to extrude, and click extrude, click on the face and pull.

  • what did u search to find thoose pictures?!

  • thx alot :) Btw phone HTC? and was that your alarmclock

    XD

  • hehe yea when i did this i did have an htc touch. I now have a nokia 5800 music thing, much better.

  • Btw, i still got problems setting up the templates like that. Im still a newbie in this XD but when i make a plan and apply the template as the background im not able to make a line infront of the template it is drawing behind it ^^ are you able to tell me what im doing wrong or mabe make a small tutorial of how to set up template like you do :) thx in advange

  • I think you're working a little to slow, even for newbie viewers.

  • LoL ok..Well, many ppl pm me to go slower, so i can't be that slow. I would never record when im designing something, that wud be too fast.

  • how did u arrange the view ports like that

  • When you got your 3d max open, and it shows 4 different views. (top, left, front, and perspective),

right click on one of the names. (top left corner of each view), and select configure. :)

Then choose the layout with just two views, and set them as you wish!

  • I know this is a silly question just i cant find the actually blue print. on the site mentioned i've logged on but cant find it. looks in the human section but no joy... if any one has a direct link i'd be very pleased with them.

  • awsome

but how do you set up the blueprints

  • creating 2 planes and asigning "materials" to the two planes.. Those materials would be the two side of the man (in this case) and aligning them in a way that does not interfiere with eachother for modeling.

  • well you pick your images create some planes arrange them as you wish and there you have the setup:P

  • Great tut! I have a question when it comes to applying bones to the model. I was thinking that if you moved one arm and because of the symmetry applied the other would move too, or is there some other way of doing it? thanks again and 5 stars :)

  • Thank you so much!

  • Great job it's help me a lot because i don't know this technique (i'm newbie) i only use edge loop modeling. I want see more :D

    Prodigy it's good shit :DDD

  • How did you set up the blueprints exactly?? Like freezing The planes and things?? i understand how to add the texture i dont get the freezing part.

  • Not sure wat u mean but, set the images up in photoshop so they are the same size etc, bring them into max applied to a plain. Then right click on the plain and its properties, un-check show frozen in grey then ok. Then right click on the plains again and click freeze object. :) Hope it helps

  • How did you import the blue prints into the 3D studio MAX?

  • Its in the tutorial in 3D studio max. Make a plane, then apply the texture.
