Very nicely done. Played this two years ago for my solo contest, probably about 3 months after this vid was posted. Sounds great all around, really enjoyed this. The cadenza was always one of my favorite parts lol, I loved just letting my self go on it.
Beautiful. You blazed through the cadenza, which for most of it is great, but there were a few parts of it, which, in my opinion, could have used a little bit of singing out, rather that flying through it. Great performance, though, you did really well.
Haha I have to play this in four weeks for solo/ensemble contest. I thought it was pretty good. If I had to say one thing, it would be the pianos. They could be a little softer.
I am assuming you are the clarinet player in the above video. What I provided is constructive criticism. I do not claim to be a great clarinet player; I am still in my high school years. I just provided what I could hear could be improved upon. When the judges hear it, they are not going to "sugar coat" it. I do not understand the point you are trying to convey, clanire. As this video was "recorded a year ago", I am not downsizing your abilities now. I believe you are a great player, and I
believe this is the best recording of this piece on YouTube to date. I do apologize if I may seem blunt. I just restated most of what everybody else commented below me along with a few other comments.
what do you know what masterclasses have you attended with who and where do you take lessons and where did you learn what you know? Just wondering since you and I are the same age and I can guarantee I know 3 times as much as you. This piece is meant to played very simply and can take either a very musical or up tone, obviously he chose a very moving tone and feel. Please dont criticize when you are still learning the basics.
i think everyones entitles to their own opinions.... I don't think what PeaceFrog1234 said was meant to offend anyone, it was just constructive criticism, if you're playing the clarinet in band or professionally you should learn to take criticism and not be offended
wow.... i have solo and ensemble tomorrow and i have to play this.. and i feel like crap about it...ive practiced so much and im not ANYWhere close to being this good...
I assume you have at least the notes down. I would not put this as your "goal" to play. He may have the notes down and the tempo, but it's lacking a lot of things. First of all, tone quality. As a concert clarinetist, you want to ideally be playing with a darker timbre. Second, articulation. He is playing the notes more SHORT than SEPARATED, making the notes sound "peckish" as someone noted below me. This short sound just further complements his bright, "jazzy" tone quality.
Oh, wow. I'm so glad you posted this! I'm a sophomore and have solo and ensemble in two weeks, just started practicing today and I have to have it memorized. It'll be way easier, thanks to you! ;) Nice work.
how did u get accepted to this college man, awesome for memorizing it but I really think you are not playing at a college ready level. I kinda think your sound is really bright and it's making it feel very blah. More musical please. Technically pretty nice. Except some of the grace notes and the cadenza. Thats my opinion at least.
it's incredible to see how much you have improved in such a sort amount of time. like this is really good but hearing you play now, takes my breath away every time. :)
good technicallity but not much musicality. Its not a difficult song so you should be able to put more changes in your dynamics then there were. Dont try to put to much to hard accents are stretch notes cause it makes your pitch go flat. very noticable. good articulation though. not bad.
more study and more resped from the composers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You played this really well, with good control and technique on the runs and if I were to offer critique I would say you tend to speed up the runs and especially the triplets and tuning wise are a litte flat in some areas. Also, take your time on the cadenza, really work the emotion Stamitz had in mind for this piece.
Overall great job, I am working on this for a jury right now and it's exhausting by the end!
You played very well. However, I was distracted by your attire, or lack thereof. Performing music is more than the way you sound. You are not a recording, I mean I can't imagine that you were playing behind a dark screen. If you were then your dress wouldn't matter. However, that isn't the case. It's called performer etiquette. What if you went to go see a movie & they didn't spend any money on costumes, and they just wore whatever clothes they wanted, and it didn't fit the role. Same here.
I got this piece a few weeks ago.. If my teacher thinks I'll ever be able to play it like this she has WAY to high an opinion of me.. :S Very good, though ;)
I am playing this for my Solo as a fishy O.o quite a leap from alleluia XD 2 more weeks and i know teh frist 2 pages, this is some amazingly fun music :D
very well done! :) I'm playing this for one of my college audition pieces... I think it's good to stay away from popular clarinet audition pieces. You did really well. I can never figure out how i want to play the Cadenza though haha
f**ing genius! I'm currently trying to learn it, but there's no way i'll be able to sound this good! nice job!

Nice! I like your sound. Articulation was a little pecky at times. Personally, i think the cadenza was rushed through, take you time man.

Technically very good indeed, but try a thicker reed. You know have a more jazzy sound, try to get it thicker and darker...
