I put this with TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (74) on having some of the most disturbing sounds and music put on a motion picture screen. Nothing short of brilliant
The violin in the song is stunningly beautiful... This whole soundtrack is his best work, I think... Strange that it's for a such an awful seeming movie that I'll never want to see.
i'm satisfied that the animals kiled (humanely, as they were) didn't go to waste, what's the problem, really? we kill animals for food all the time.
it was a low budget production shot in the fucking amazonian jungle, they killed many more animals for food than they showed in the film, it's just that we don't like too much reality to seep into our movies. we're happy with a guy eating a beefburger in a movie but god forbid you should ever show the process by which the meat arrived there.
All these modern horror movies will never equal Cannibal Holocaust's power to shock an audience. I'm a hardcore horror nut and those animal killings still repulse me, there will never be a more offensive film than Cannibal Holocaust.
This is a truly perverse and vile disgusting film, I think twice before recommending it to anybody. I love this movie, and can watch fucked up horror with the best of them, but this is one of those raw, starkly realistic horror films with all the graphic gore and rape, and it disturbs even me. The violence is gratuitous, but that's the socialogical statement of the film. It's expertly directed and photographed, despite being hard to watch.
@eraserheadtoker You're not the only one - I can sit through the ending to The Wicker Man (original version), watch The Exorcist and Alien, but Cannibal Holocaust is one of the few movies that make my guts lurch (another being Saló: The 120 Days of Sodom, along with The Devil's Advocate).
tehOGRE is right, this is a film that you can't deny the existence of. it's there, it's always going to be there and just because you complain about it, it won't go away. what's done is done and you can't deny its historic importance. Cannibal Holocaust went where every other horror film never dared to go, and hasn't gone back since. i think it's something every film fan should see - just how dark cinema can really become...
I'm sixteen years old and after watching the movie I can tell this. This movie goes beyond what any other movie has gone. When you watch a traditional horror movie you immedietely create a sort of shield knowing it's not true. This movie shoves REAL death in your face. The animals killed here were real, and the rape and death is really realistic, its not like Hostel, where blood just gushes out and u know its fake. Cannibal Holocaust is in a way one of the TRUE horror films cuz its so realistic.
I don't see why people thought this movie was so disgusting, it didn't do anything to me except for when they killed those animals, but I guess I'm no one to talk since I've seen much, much, much, much worse.
Yeah they didnt, but srsly that was 30 years ago, and a few years after CH nobody dared to kill an animal for a movie cuz of all the fuzz about it in CH.
So srsly stop fuggin whining about the poor poor animals. Im going to watch some bangbros vids now.
@Beatle911 It's terrible, but the animals were eaten. Deodato even had a fake monkey he wanted to use, but the natives insisted on using a real one, because it's a delicacy to them. So, at least the animals weren't killed entirely in vain.
@Beatle911 Everything they killed, they either ate or gave to the natives to eat, so it wasn't a total waste. The natives in the movie kill animals in their everyday life. Animals have to die so other animals can live. Death is an ugly thing. But you're right, animals were killed to make this movie, and that is kinda mean.
There is no official sequel, some other films about cannibals have been released as part 2 or even 3. Deodato tryed making a sequel for this year but the production died.
@godgivengulas There is no real "Cannibal Holocaust 2"; there was a movie released under that title in 1988, but it's very hard to find and is unrelated to Cannibal Holocaust.
Also, for those who are still going on about the animal cruelty--you are hypocrites, whiners, and just plain pathetic. I wonder if any of you even realize that the Last Road To Hell sequence was genuine human murders? And your complaining about animals the likes of which are slaughtered every day so you can eat a burger or a chicken sandwich at McDonalds? Unbelievable.
Oy good lord. Killing an animal for the purpose of entertainment is wrong. The director has even come out and condemned his past actions. You can still eat meat and believe that cruelty to animals is wrong.
Also like the rest of the human murders in this flick "The Last road to hell" sequence is staged its not geniune. Great flick though.
Check your facts buddy--the Last Road To Hell sequence is real firing squad footage from Nigeria. Ruggero Deodato obtained it from a newsreel and put fake credits over it to be in the film Cannibal Holocaust. They say it is staged in the movie to show the lengths the film crew will go to for sensationalistic footage.
Ahh yes my mistake. But your earlier anology is still specious as there's a difference between actual archived news reel footage of an execution performed by a goverment and animal cruelty filmed by a movie production.
I agree. those fucks just won't admit that they are too pussy to slaughter a pic. And when it comes to animal cruelty, there wasn't any in the movie, al animals died right away. If that6's animal cruelty then so be it. I'd rather do that than starve.
@Aserikoth The director intended on using fake animals. But the tribes insisted on using real ones. For example the monkeys because it is a delicacy to them.
I am only 14 years old, but I know my stuff when it comes to film and I am very desensitized. The music in Cannibal Holocaust is a huge part of what makes the film so powerful. I feel sad just listening to it and remembering some of the rape scenes, Riz is obviously an excellent composer. If I can find this soundtrack (though I doubt I will, I've heard it is rare) I will definitely get it, these compositions are as classic as the Halloween and Saw themes.
This film is the equivalent to mental castration but i can see what it was trying to do. It's not exploitation. It's instead a portrait of exploitation. plus it kind of brings up an interesting image to bias and false documentation. It's still sort of a B movie horror flick though.. and they're always fun.
-l- WHAT A FUCK IS HAPENING WHIT YOU PEOPLE?? THIS IS A TOTALY SHIT¡¡¡ IF YOU WANT HEAR SOMETHING SCARRY HEAR BURZUM, BEHOLDING THE DAUGHTERS OF THE FIRMAMENT, ¡¡¡FUCK YOU RIZ ORTOLANI¡¡¡
That... *dew!* noise or whatever will forever remind me of barbaric violence and rape. A little more true to the movie than the main theme, yet it keeps its beauty. Probably my favorite piece overall.
horrificaly creepy. one of the best horror movie themes I've ever heard. Haven't seen the movie though and I don't want to. I'm a horror movie fan but real animal murder and exploitive rape scenes are not for my taste
You should really consider watching it atleast once because its a whole other Type of Horror Movie.
Any Horror-Movie will entertain you, you will be thrilled, shocked or you even laugh your ass of (some Splattermovies :P), cannibal holocaust goes in a totally other direction by really disgusting you, you cant enjoy this movies, you should feel bad watching it, in its own way it creates Real Horror in the viewers eyes.
Yep, tehOGRE neatly summarises what is so brilliant about this movie - it both DEPICTS and IS, as a result, the pinnacle of this kind of depravity and primal "savagery" in humanity.
It is a very well made film - the documentary elements, the attention to anthropological insights (Kerman's character is brilliant), the music, the brutality, the cinematography - all come together into one neat little depraved and highly disturbing package very well.
@tehOGRE so youre german an think "cannibal holocaust" is worth seeing? you say, its not entertaining. but i think the only purpose of an movie is to entertain. raping and cannibalism are huge violations of human rights. there is no reason, why a movie should show these things.
Movies are made to tell a story or to retell reality, they r provoking emotions of all sorts. There are many movies that dont entertain but scare or even school you.
@tehOGRE but does raping, and cannibalism school you or generate emotions. i agree with your point, but the movie here has way too axeggerated violence. from my point of view.
@tehOGRE all movies first and foremost are made to entertain regardless of the subject matter. Schindler's List never would of been made had Steven Spielberg not think it would be successful. Same thing with Cannibal Holocaust.
hey i love this movie and i laughed when i saw people leaving you comments saying how nasty and sick this film is.
they dont understand that this movie is showing that civilised society is more evil and nasty than these so called babaric natives. i guess only a few will understand
@tehOGRE The first time I went to see the film uncut, It played this song at the warning screen.... and it took me about 2 months to get the courage to get past that messed up shit XD But yeah, it is a good movie, I watched it for the third time yesterday... although the turtle scene has given me nightmares, it's still a great film :D
@jiltedkiller you're right and i guess this was a mistake in my statements. but i think in this examble, the violence is too exaggereted, wich disregards the artistically and etihical aspects of the movie. but i do know, that this point of view is very subjective.
The cannabilism in the movie was not a violation of human rights
it was revenge against the whites.
tehOGRE mentioned his nationality as an excuse for his poor grammar
NOT for the purpose of endorsing the film as you suggest.
The movie Death Wish in the70's starring Charles Bronson had a graphic rape scene and nobody ever suggested that scene was entertaining. the rape was integral to the plot in both movies. go and watch the movie fool.
