Yup. I've had one for 3 years. That's always been my complaint with it, but I do like how beefy and tough it feels. It's still heavyyyyy. I just got a Russian one and that one has the right feeling balance to me.
The m59/66 is much heavier. Uses beefier stock, has a grenade launcher, grenade sights, and gas port selector, longer bayonet, etc etc. Even the adjustable sight is bigger.
The Russian is much lighter and balanced. All the weight isn't in the front.
I'm not saying that the m59/66 is a bad gun, but I had to make modifications for me - added extended buttpad is all. Added Williams Firesights too. Great sights. Kept the wood stock. I think it's b
How do you like your stock? I considered getting one for my SKS. Cant wait to have to knock the pin out to get the gas tube out of the top handguard to replace it. lol
I like it, it's a good stock. Scratch knocking the pin out, I got a new Gas tube with a poly top hand guard from tapco. Everything works great, gun shoots great.
@sa1911a1 hey man nice gun,i was told u have to have a certain type of scope for the sks tht doesnt get damaged by the shells when fired, is this true do u know ? and would ur scope be clear at 300 yds ? thanks for the info
I have a yugo sks 59/66 any Ideas how the best way to add a scope ?? I still use stripper clips, I have seen cover replacements, and a rail system that rides the gas tube
ive only had my norinco for about 3 months now.... love it... but having trouble finding ammo for it, anybody know where i can find some? maybe even some of that wolf brand...
The stock is great, a fairly tight fit but its designed that way and well worth it, just read the instructions carefully. The Scope mount I have replaces the reciever "dust cover", the part that covers the bolt and spring assembly, then the scope rings attach to the mount. So far mine has held the zero perfectly but I guess there are a few brands out there so choose carefully.
Thats because you have to modify the AK mags to work with the SKS, sometimes people mod the SKS and the mags to make them work, screw that. Yes they shoot the same ammo but the SKS is more of a medium to long range
semi-auto not full-auto and close to medium range like the AK. Besides the stock 10rd SKS mags work fine with the stripper clips and reloads are easy and fast.
You can't hunt with a bayonet on you gun in VA!? That's really pointless, what do the think someone's going to do, go out and bayonet a herd of deer or something? I use a Type-56 for deer, I use the bayonet as a mono-pod.
I had a scope for mine but I quit using it(couldn't keep the P-O-S zeroed after about 40rounds) until then I was making 2 1/4" groupings at 175m and then it just wennt all to hell (cheap diecast screws broke) And they tore the bluing of my gun.
You probably can but to make my Yugo SKS legal to hunt with I had to take and swap out quite a few factory parts for U.S.A. made parts to make it compliant with some damn Government regulation. Besides I always have my 1911A1 .45 or .357 and a large bowie knife on me because I'm usually hunting in Bear, Cougar, and Coyote country.
ok, well i saw cheap $15 chinese knock off of what you have. ill check it out on the net. the chinese mount loses zero, and requires tightening frenquently.
I'm using a NC Star scope, not sure of the mount brand, it's the style that replaces your rear reciever cover and mounts the scope directly on top of your reciever, not the side mount style.
well my advice would be to learn to shoot right handed lol cuz the shell deflectors iv tryed to use cut your finger when you pull the action back and its just more trouble than its worth
I would also suggest that you learn to shoot right handed as that was how the rifle was intended to be shot. I'm left handed but I've always shot rifles right handed, as Dad was a Vietnam Vet and he taught me that pistols are personal preference on how they are shot and rifles are always shot right handed uless it was a left handed model.
Has anybody used a shell deflector for the SKS? I shoot left handed and Need to find a shell deflector that won't shoot hot shells into my arm. Thanks very much!
I haven't used any of the shell deflectors but there are 2 different styles I know of and you can find them just about everywhere that carries sks parts.
Well I've only shot the rifle with the NC scope once, but that was when I zeroed it in 5 shots at 100 yards if that counts for anything. After I zeroed it, it seemed to hold the zero very well as I put another 15 rounds through it at 100 yards and it was grouping them at about 1.5" with me firing at a decent pace, not really taking my time. I'd say the NC Star scopes are very good quality. Try 'RifleTech"DOT"com' they have alot of SKS parts.
whats the brand of magazine ? Some mags you will have to play with the feeding lips to make them work with your SKS. I got a 30rd mag at a gun show and still haven't got it right, so I ordered the 5rd tapco you see in the video and it works right out of the box.
Yea It took me like 10 mins to mess with the lips to get it shove the bullets through. Idk what brand it was. Also It wont feed rounds with more than 26 rounds in the mag. Kinda sucks.
Go check out Rifletech"dot"com they've got all kinds of sks Parts and mounts like mine. There are good ones and bad ones, I knew nothing about the SKS or the scope mount when I bought them so I got lucky with the scope mount, because mine shoots great and holds about a 1.5" group at 100 yards. I've heard some of the mounts are very cheap and tend to make your groups wander around the paper alot, so just becareful when you choose one.
I've got the NC Star scope with the scope mount that replaces your reciever top cover. People say it's not that great a design since the bolt is moving back and forth in there slamming into the back of the cover when you fire but Mine is accurate and holds a zero.

Try wal-mart they stock it where I live. Also try online,
"cheaperthandirt/dot/com"
"sportsmansguide/dot/com"
"the-armory/dot/com"
by the way, wolf ammo is good, just a little dirty and can't reload it.

Not even close to an air rfle. Turn on the sound next time. Why make fun of the SKS ? It's a bad ass rifle, it shoots the same
7.62x39 ammo as the AK-47 that everyone loves.
