I didnt get that part! Why were two girl kissing....?

Were they hot lesbians,or was trying to get politicians attention...?

  • This part is a good example of how lobbyists assault Washington. When we have had enough, we will have to do this as well.

  • sorry, "where" i could get..

  • do you know the name of the orchestrated piece that plays at 5:52 :)

  • I find it funny how Hilary Swank is always wearing the same hat threw the whole movie wether it matches with her clothes or not.I know the role she is playing well that hat was the woman's fave but damn I'd change hats once and awhile hihi.Other than that I loooooooooooove this movie

  • any one know where this quote is, its for an american history assigment

Respond to the quote: “Those in power should be held responsible not only for what they do but for what they do not do.”

  • I don't understand why someone dislike this video.

  • @KatrinaLynn101 someone disliked this video to make us upset is all. There's still all kind of hateisms still alive sweetie. just ignore them and move forward. ;)

  • @NELLYBELLYPOOH32...Well, they're still a poo poo head! :P I know i'm too old to say that but hey, its better than what most kids are saying! haha, and yeah. i just think that God created us all equal. I saw this movie in my History Class and I just couldnt imagin if it were still like that today.

  • if you like this you should watch the british tv series Bramwell about a young female doctor set in Victorian england. good stuff;)

  • i actually really like that senator's wife :/ she's cute

  • Hurray for hairless cats.! GOD BLESS cats eveyrwhere!

  • senator L's wife looks just like this chic i went to school with. the chic at my school was black tho and wasn't as slim. but when i first saw this movie i thought they looked so much alike. she was nice and somewhat passive like this lady too.

  • @chocolicc Yes, Molly Parker is very white and very slim.

  • I love the hate the senator's wife is wearing. That blue is beautiful.

P.S. I love this movie and the message, don't get me wrong. Just wanted to point out something simple. =)

  • @HosiAkira It is very much a thin material prop; not sure if it is period accurate. You can see the light shining right through it, when she also is wearing it at the very beginning of the movie.

  • The song playing in the restaurant, "Ain't She Sweet", wasn't published until 1927. :P

  • Well, I Think they Did that so The men wouldn't slam the Doors right in there faces immediately. Get em to take notice some way or another!

  • @DragonflyNoir10 Got it. :-)

  • As a feminist, I don't quite understand how women making out is incongruous to feminism...just curious about what you meant. :-)

  • @lilanma In front of a 19th C. patriarchal senator?! Early 'shock and awe!'

  • 0:36 i don't get it

  • @barkpeeler2000 "I don't get it" WHAT don't you get?

  • @TheGranti7a why they were kissing!

  • @barkpeeler2000: The 19th C. "Shock and awe" of their day! How often do you suppose a conservative congressman might have been culturally exposed to the reality of two women kissing in the 1800's? What point it had in that moment in the movie... is anyone's guess.

My theory is: the contemporary overtones throughout the entire movie were meant to reinforce awareness that these issues are still alive and wielding their challenging reality in the lives of women today. 23rd Amendment for example...

  • @TheGranti7a I have the DVD with commentary by the director and the scriptwriter, and they said the kissing scene was not in the original script - the two actresses were just fooling around, and they thought it was funny so they left it in. (BTW - the movie takes place in the 1900's, not the 1800's. You hear Alice say in the beginning that the year is 1912, and the movie ends with the 19th Amendment which was passed in 1920.)

  • @barkpeeler2000 I think it was so they could get his attention so he wouldn't slam the door in their faces immediately.

  • @barkpeeler2000 I watched this in my history class and my teacher said that they were kissing because that's what the senator was imagining them to be -- a bunch of lesbians trying to get the vote. I don't think they actually kissed.
