  • Does anyone know another movie like this one????

  • WARSAW!

  • I don´t know if Ian Curt treated his wife bad,I don´t care about particular life of musicians.I just pay attetion to their music and Joy Division"s music is wonderful.

  • A Great Communist band, rebelling against british imperialism

  • If you want to read a book about Ian/JD I advise 'Torn Apart'. It's a lot less bitter and biased than Deborah Curtis' biography.

  • lucky but let me point out something this song is not rudolf hess I know the original song so control messed it up oooops

  • What a drummer the guy who played Steve Morris.

  • Ian Curtis was a fuckhole to his wife, he was a egocentric person, who commited suicide on the edge of the bands breakthrough and he cheated on his wife, but I do still adore him in some way! Don't know why?

  • @MolokoPlus1980 Just because the man had epilepsy doesn't mean that he had no accountability of the way he was treating his wife. Please. Felt guilty? Where? When? That must have been in the sequel: Control 2.

  • wondering where this clip comes from... is it really them?

  • @summerbeeme Form the film Control

  • This is a really cool version of a great song!

  • this got me hooked on joy division.

  • @MolokoPlus1980 weren't they just kids (early 20s) when they got married? similar shit happened to lennon and his 1st wife when they got married... i heard that he basically ignored his first kid until near his death.... LESSON: DONT GET MARRIED AND HAVE KIDS TOO EARLY!!!

  • what did the guitarist say before they played the song

  • @ramonesdude93

He said "You all forgotten Rudolph Hess?"

    :)

  • In control Ian is ignoring and trying to shut his wife out of his life, and he really did not irl.

  • How would you know?

  • @eltonjohnlennon97 Cuz people that knew him and his wife said so in interviews

  • those re some awsome pants sam riley is wearin

  • Now he sound's much more like Ian Curtis on this track, nice hair too!

  • he is soo hot ;; the music is fukin amazing x3 :D

  • nevermind

  • whyd he mention that dude hess?

  • they werent nazis they just wanted to shock people because nazi was the worst thing you could be at that time

  • Ian was also really interested in ww2

  • I thought they were doing it to be darkly ironic.

  • Rudolf Walter Richard Hess (Heß in German) (26 April 1894 17 August 1987) was a prominent figure in Nazi Germany, acting as Adolf Hitler's Deputy in the Nazi Party. On the eve of war with the Soviet Union, he flew solo to Scotland in an attempt to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom, but instead was arrested. He was tried at Nuremberg and sentenced to life in prison at Spandau Prison, where he died in 1987.

  • thanks wikopedia :)

  • this film was great

  • I met Ian Curtis in London in 1979. He was a very happy person. Funny, that he is depicted as so torn. I never saw a performance.

  • ive heard that a lot, everyone says he had issues but generally very nice and normal, took the piss out of his mates and was up for a laugh like any other young person. How did u end up meeting him?

  • @dprague wow! How did you meet him?

  • @dprague wow you have to be the luckiest person on earth :O :D , how cool ! u met Ian lmao sorry

  • @dprague how did you meet him, did you talk to him and so?

  • @dprague you lucky bastard

  • @dprague woow seeing happy Ian Cuurts is as rare as seeing kakapo

  • @dprague ever heard of manic depressive disorder or bipolar disorder? One day full of positive energy, the next day torned as hell. I guess you met him at his good day. Still, I envy you for meeting him buddy;)

  • Who's Rudolph Hess?

  • The vice furher of Nazi Germany, who in 1940 hijacked a plane and flew to England on a self imposed desire to arbitrate a peace treaty. The British threw him in jail. By the late 1970s he was in jail, suffering from the effects of a bad heart attack (prison serial number 350125-31g).

  • ok. but why does old mate say, 'have you all forgotten Rudolph Hess', before the band starts to play.

  • Actually, Ian Curtis said that.

I believe he did that to get attention, since being as Nazi-like as possible was in vogue back then.

  • No it was indeed Bernard Sumner who yelled "You all forgot Rudolf Hess!" to the crowd. Search for "Joy Division - At A Later Date (rare)" in YouTube and you'll hear their performance at the Electric Circus and you can clearly hear Barney before the song starts.

  • it might have been because whilst everybody knew about himmler, geourballs (sp?) and hitler himself, nobody knew about Rudolph hess. Despite his ranking in the nzi army.

  • watch my vid 'at a later date' and you hear the real joy division shouting you all forgot about rudolph hess at the beginning

  • Joy Division were like a Hardcore Punk band when they first started, Ian's voice was alot more energetic and shouty, a bit like Jello Biafra's voice when he was with the Dead Kennedy's

  • Umm I thought Barney said you all forget Rudolph Hess and then they did At a later date. If you ever heard live from the electric Circus. Plus Ian sounded alot more Angry in 1977

  • Im so glad they opened the film with my favorite JD song.

    lovely

  • Thank you so much for put up the video and for your shortcut on download performances from Control,I searched for it so many times...

Ian Curtis was legend, but life was too hard for him...R.I.P Ian!

  • PERFECT!!absolutely amazing!!!respect for SAM RILEY!!!!!!

  • Wow...

I never heard this before (yes I'm a Joy Div./ New Order Fan).

    Great Live Version!!!

I think a lot of their stuff sounds better live. Studio versions can be dull.

This is great. Gonna have to learn how to play it.

  • i know!! this band did a great job playing Joy Divisions cover

  • Obviously not a real fan if you haven't heard this song.

  • I've heard the studio version not the live version, asshole.

  • you twat. get a life nerd. i'm sick of reading comments from self righteous little gimps like you.

  • I saw John Cooper Clarke at a poetry convention a couple years ago. He was very good

  • Genialna piosenka :)

  • maybe its just me but joy division songs sound better live

  • I think is because of the feeling...the speed...remember the studio made them record the songs slower...

  • Love Joy Division, this film is outstanding no doubt about it, Sam Riley's portrayal of Ian Curtis is played to perfection.

  • Btw if you watch the whole thing on the dvd

theres are wierd guy reciting a poem

i think its called "chicken town" or something?

does anyone now any more info about it??

  • It's another guy who was signed to Factory called John Cooper Clarke, the poem's called "Evidently Chickentown" - I think you'll be able to download it from any half decent download site if you want

  • What, John Cooper Clarke was signed to factory ?? I thought he was just opening some shows for JD and other bands.

  • i know only the studio version of this song but THIS is fuckin' better !

  • I thought Sam Riley got fucked at the Baftas. I mean, losing to Shia Lebouef? Bummer.

    Brilliant film, tho.

  • my favorite joy division song

    organically grown music!

    pure, raw, powerfull

    amazing

  • I like how they played the songs sped up, just like the real Joy Division. Hooky always said he hated the fact that the producers made them slow it down for the studio.

  • couldn't agree more

  • actually new order sed it wasnt as bad as they thought an even supported it at a premiere

  • Yeh, I just read that Deborah Curtis actually co-produced the film. It was just the impression I got from a bulletin posted on MySpace by whoever runs the Joy Division page. Can't really remember exactly what it said though.

  • Actually, she did indeed co-produce the film, and you can see it in the way it quite portrays her as a poor victim of Ian's selfishness. On the other hand, it also shows that he can't help being so self-centered. I mean, it does treat Ian's figure with respect after all. Must have been a hard disenchantment for both Deborah and Ian. I liked "Control" more than i thought i would, in any case more than "24 Hour Party People" with those boring pilldroppers, the Happy Mondays.

  • you don't know shit, sam.

  • Yeh, whatever...

    I retract my statement.

  • Best film for a good while. Saw it 3 times at cinema.

  • sam in leather pants=hot

    >3 this song

  • One of my fave bands! rip Ian x

  • love joy division
