Correction on the title, it should be Natalie Cole "Bridge Over Trouble Water" feat. Whitney Houston. I remember the airing of this show (Big Break) and Natalie was the host. Whitney was a guest on the show.
As a kid, minorities were just getting acknowledged in the USA: thanks Whitney! Regardless of her faults as we are all imperfect. She was not a murderer, a rapist, etc; she may have done things to complicate her own life but that's her business and known of ours. hell, we all hurt ourselves. no one has the perfect diet, attitude, habits 24/7. I can't judge her, but I know the world owes her! imagine the 80s without her, music without her, thanks Nippy! R.I.P. my sister.
OMG!!!!!! I have NEVER heard Natalie sound like this??? And this is old!! I saw a more recent gospel attempt from her and it was a major FAIL this HOWEVER sounds authentic and down right great!! Didn't know she could holler like that!! I am blown away!!
@OfficiallyRoyce please remember old school Natalie" I'm Catching Hell" and "Inseparable" and you will understand how she can sing Gospel (sound). In addition, I'm sure here recent health has affected her sound. Yes I'm a Natalie fan lol... This too was prior to her crossover into jazz (to me a smart move) and where her sound for many years was different.
Holy crap! This video is a find. Natalie Cole was the shit back in the day. I didn't even know her and Whitney sang a duet together. LOL Old School Natalie was on fiiiire! I can't say no if he asks me.
two amazing voices. a great song. they inspire. and YES...there is a bridge over troubled water...they both know what it means and i do too. so THANKS. i love them for singing. flaws and all.
@BBBYpsi It's called Gospel. You would have to understand where they're coming from. When Black people sing a song, it's coming from a whole different place, having to rely on faith through racism and many other trials. The original was coming from a secular slant. This version is decidedly Christian, more precisely, the Black church.
@BBBYpsi No need to apologize. You're entitled to your opinion but it is just that. No one is losing sleep either way. They both acknowledge Jesus on this before they start to sing. The arrangement is based on Aretha Franklin's version of the song, popular among African Americans and brought a whole new meaning to it. Gladys Knight does it this way too, albeit a bit subtler. There's a clip of Art Garfunkel and Gladys singing together.
@2225530 They didn't rehearse or plan this. That's what made it so great. They cut a big piece out of this, though. I have the full version on VHS, but don't know how to upload. :-(
GOD gives great gifts to some people this is an example

Ach du Schreck. Zwei kreischende Weiber. Diese Version stinkt brutal ab gegen das was die Tante Aretha aus dem Song gemacht hat.
Queen of Soul is still alive, thats Aretha Franklin.
