hey I know I have this problem and I solved it once by surching youtube .. keep looking for me it was the way I loaded the bobbin and petal control (make sure you can pull the strings freely before you start sewing)
I've JUST got my sewing machine out of the box (Singer brilliance) and it does the exact same thing.. only much quicker! - on normal cotton.. and I've tried pretty much every advice I could find in the manuel or from people on the net.. nothing helps... did you find a solution?
I have the same machine and the SAME problem! Next time, I'll buy a German machine...but it will cost twice as much. Just remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for".
happens to me all the time. I don't know why I bought that last singer machine--I guess I was hoping it was an issue with an old machine--that was a mistake
I also have this problem and I'll never guy a Singer machine again. The system they use for the bobbin is the same and my grandma had this problem with her machine.
you might not be using the right type of bobbin, some require plastic and some metal. if its not that you might be threading the bobbin wrong, or not inserting it right. this happened to me for a long time over and over again, and it just fixed itself one day. So definitely be careful with how you put it in.
gday I have had the same problem with a fairly new machine. My problem was due to overuse. Cheaper machines are not made to do mass sewing, nor are they made to do heavy duty sewing. The problem with your machine is the timing. Both the machine timing and the dog feed are out of sink. You can remove the throte plate and clean away lint, then oil the bobin chase which will help a little. To fix this prob there is no avoiding it. Take it to a sewing centre and have the timing reset.
ok so im having the smae Fu*^ing problem, and I literally just pulled the machine out of the box. I dont think it is a cleaning, or oiling issue, but it is defintely a bull shit issue. not very encouraging as a new sewer.
@peausurpeau Return it and turn AWAY FROM THE SINGERS!!!! If you want a "cheap" under $100-$200 sewing machine, go for a Janome or even a Brother. Just say no to the Singer.
@Discernaoftruth I don't think the problem is Singer. The problem is the bobbin design--it is cheap and old fashioned. Singer also has top loading bobbins that are held in place magnetically, designed NOT to jam. Unfortunately, this design is only in their expensive machines ($200 plus).
i have also same problem with my Singer 1507. Its indifferent if i put oil, clean it inside, change needle...it works and later makes the same. I really think that its a machine problem.i know a good seamstress and confirm that its not usual. And more pople has same model and happens the same. After 5 years fighting with it i decide to buy new one.
I would try putting tissue paper underneath the fuzzy part between the fabric and the table. This might help minimize any potential of the thread becoming bound or interrupted in the mechanism. PEACE!
I have the same damned issue, and it's pissing me off. I know my machine is in dire need of cleaning but I know this isn't the issue. It does seem to like heavier fabrics though. But it seems mine isn't releasing the thread right in the bobbin area... The thread won't pass over and catch the top thread. But it will do it if i hand crank it. I have no clue what to do...
Je viens d'acquérir une PFAFF 204 et ne sais pas remonter la canette - il y a des photos sur la notice et pas d'écrit et je n'y arrive pas - merci de m'aider
Items that may be causing this problem are poor upper tension, burr on the hook, bad needle, lint or thread in the race area, bad timing. It is a little difficult to trouble shoot without seeing the entire machine in person. A simple test for the upper tension is to install a size 80 needle lower the presser foot and pull the thread at an angle towards the rear left of the machine. At normal tension the needle should deflect between an 1/8 and 1/4 inch. I would suggest professional help.
omg im having the same problem, it usually fixes it if i take the bobbin out though and clear the little metal thing underneath.... im not sure why it does it but it usually does it if im using a thick fabric or a lot of layers of fabric...
I had the same problem. Did the usual taking it apart, cleaning then oiling. No needle was bent and both threads were threaded right but the problem persisted. Turns out I had forgotten to change the top thread tension from the tightest down to 4 as a commenter had suggested. It's had no tangling since
As I said previously, check the leaf spring between the horseshoe impulsor and the rocking hook, its bent end has to fit tightly on the impulsor, thus giving no space for thread to be caught. This leaf spring gets a looser fit due to impacts with bent needles and gets thread in its backwards stroke as in this video.
Problem solved, ever now and then my machine persisted on breaking thread, lower or upper, the final cause was the horseshoe spring that gives impulse to the rocking hook, an impact with the mechine´s needle opened one of the ends causing thread to be caught, both ends have to be snuggl fitting over the impulsor not giving any space for thread to have any chance to go in. Have been testing at full speed for several minutes having no trouble at all, Best Luck
Singers are good sewing machines but are prone to thread tangles, to prevent this, take care or this at every beggining of stitching, 10 inches of spare thread, hold securely with a finger, thread puller level at the highest position and then, ONLY NOW put the first stitch on your project turning MANUALLY your flywheel and step on the gas as you want pretty securely
Hi Candice, I solved the same problem on my 110-year-old 15 class singer, and also on my mother's "Singer-replica" Remington, it consists on a bobbin case that has sharp edges causing thread tobe caught in the backwards stroke to the hooking postion. I also had t correct the curve on on the tail of the hook, because thread got caught too, Would have replaced it but a little time with a hi speed rotary tool did the trick, I hope this helps you. Th most probable cause w think was a bent needle
It looks to me like it's the bottom fabric. you need to put paper underneath when sewing. Then tear off the paper, (they sell it at the sewing store).
Have you solved this problem? I just bought a new Singer Esteem II and I am having the EXACT same problem. My mother-in-law has been a sewing on an older Singer for many years and she could not figure out what the problem was. I have watched the instructional DVD and read the manual numerous times and have re-threaded both the bobbin and the top thread dozens of times and I am still having the same problem. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!
I've been trying to post a comment on your video but my phone won't let me, I'll have to find a computer later. But I think it's more than the material, I tried adjusting the tensions but it still happened. Would this be a bobbin tension problem? Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out!! I've found a few ppl with this problem but haven't gotten a clear answer from their comments section. I'll jeep trying :)
@CandiceMi5 Have you seen my bobbin tension video? Take a look at my channel, I have a video on how to test bobbin tension. I don't *think* it's a tension issue, but it's worth it to check that too. At the very worst, your machine's timing is off, and that is easily fixed by an expert at your local Sew-n-Vac shop or Singer Dealer. Let's keep looking for easier fixes though, okay?

Try a machine that has a bobbin with the hole in the middle.
This one is not good. It ruined many of my projects too.

change the needle to a size suitable for the fabric
You also need to disassemble the bobbin casing and oil it, clean out any lint and debris from the jam.
