If you have your 3x magnifier down to only use the xps 2.0, how big of an issue would brass hitting that magnifier be? I would imagine in it's take down position you run the risk of it being damaged by ejected brass, no?
@redwolfmendoza Most AR's have a brass deflector which should safely toss them off to the side away from the magnifier. Any brass that would hit the magnifier might hit the shooter as well.
Nice vid. I have a question about cleaning the glass because I just got my first one a day ago and I dont want to mess up the glass, so what should I use?
@CrazyAssassin16 For best results I'd use a lens cleaner or any other product meant to clean scopes or camera lens. Just check out the camera area of your local retailers for a lens cleaner and I'm sure you can get something delicate enough to clean the lens well.
Wow, thanks for a really fantastic review. This is one of the best hardware reviews I've ever seen on youtube. Thorough, professional, with all the right terminology, but not too long-winded, and not excessively subjective. Thanks, and you've won a new subscriber!
Hmm looking at getting a setup like this but thinking about using the longer 512...do you reckon you could fit that on there with the magnifier all the way back (if theres no iron sight on there)?
@TheSafetyTurtle If you don't have irons you can set the magnifier back farther but you have to be careful with the eye relief. A lot of the newer Eotech's have a cantilever style battery compartment that will let you sit it farther forward with the battery compartment sitting over the top of your fore grip. The 512 with double A's can be pretty long, but it should still work. I guess the big decision will be the amount of eye relief you want.
Are there any complications when using the magnifier with non-EOTech sights like $60 reflex sights? I.E. is the dot magnified into an inaccurate red region instead of a dot?
@selgoad I've never really tried it with anything other than an Eotech and a Aimpoint sight. As long as you can get the dot centered in the magnifier it should be ok. The stock magnifier comes with the mount to set it at the height of most red dots that are usable on AR type rifles. It has shims that will let you raise it up for lower 1/3 witness as opposed to co-witness. I would think as long as your red dot is clear and sharp it should be ok to use with a magnifier.
hi, great video ; i was curious if you knew if the mount is ambi flip capable (you flip it onto the right side of the gun; can the mount be set to flip to the left side) ?
@jazzboy1088 Yes, you can change the direction of the flip. If you remove the magnifier from the flip base where it's screwed on and turn it around then reattach it you can then flip it to the left side instead of the right. The quick detach throw arm will also be on the other side as well.
@malleymyster It would work for pretty much any red dot that can sit behind it, but It wouldn't be very useful by itself or with just iron sights. It magnifies everything you see which includes the red dot. For irons to work you need to use both front and rear sight which won't really work together when the front sight is magnified 3x and the rear sight isn't.
How often are you running with you rifle "the the side?" LoL silly question... Decent vid next time forget neighboors give a more relative distance esp with a 3x just my opinion.
ill post soon eotech w/3x on my sig 556 swat.
again decent vid, wish you were in a more rural area lol
@mr08fit My decision for using the magnifier isn't really based on range but what I'm shooting at. Shooting at targets for qualification score and time isn't a concern I'll use the magnifier. If I have to shoot quickly or at moving targets a lot of time I forgo it. To me 3x magnification is like wearing reading glasses...I don't have to have it but it certainly helps to have them. Its a convenient to have around when you want it. I'd like to see it on a Sig now that you mention it.
Thanks for taking the time to review and post your video. I wish more opinionated people would post their own. Anyways, I have a question. What are your thoughts on mounting this on a .308? I'm aware the reticle is calibrated to a .223, but this isn't the one with multiple stadia dots. So theroretically, all I'd have to do is zero in the 1 moa at 300m to get a true reticle calibration.
@EglinRed You could put it on a .308 and it will work. Generally speaking red dots typically get used at the 0-100 yard range and the magnifier could extend it even further. You could use a red dot with or without the magnifier as far out as the rifle is capable of. If you're doing a lot of closer range shooting it would work well. It only has the single dot so BDC isn't really an issue. I'd be curious to see how it works myself.
Have you had any issues with the magnifier flipping back to its upward position? For instance if you were running with your rifle, holding it sideways (for whatever reason), or making sharp movements.
Your suppose to the magnifier behind the holographic sight so it does not magnify the recital. This accusation may be false but I am just thinking out loud, correct me if I am wrong.
I've been looking for days to try and find the same set-up. I would rather just bring my aR into a store and have them mount the rails, sights and magnifier.
@BoysBigToyz Nothing I hate worse then ask for advice about a good setup for a rifle and only being asked in return, "What are you going to do with it". Isn't shooting things and hitting them accurately a good enough answer?
@black1705f Hitting a target with a small grouping is what I want. I went outside yesterday - set up a target 25 yards away and was not happy with the results. Grouping was scattered about the size of a computer screen and I was looking for it to be about the size of an egg.
@BoysBigToyz Shooting prone or from a bench rest at 25 yards should get you a group like an egg or possibly even a quarter or dime with iron sights. Even shooting off hand shouldn't be that big. If I wanted to get a tight group at 100 yards and up and still be able to engage closer targets I'd spring for an ACOG in the 3x or 4x power with the chevron. That's if you don't want a traditional cross hair scope. Red dots are a little more for quickness over accuracy.
As retarded as it may sound, look at air soft websites. They are knockoffs but built just as well. On my AR-15 I have a Trijicon Acog knockoff and it works fantastic. And it was only $40 opposed to $200+!
@bubba5497 Well, its hardly plastic and made of steel, but I can agree its very expensive. There are less expensive alternatives out there with probably more to follow. Larue Tactical also makes a similar flip to side mount that unfortunately is just as expensive.
@sailingmanuel You know, I was thinking about getting rid of it, but I switched my Eotech to a new SBR and put the magnifier on it and now I'm definitely keeping it. An ACOG would be good too by the way. Which I'm going to be in the market for. That's the thing with getting a nice gun like a SCAR you really need to get a nice optic. The nice thing about the magnifier is you can use it with multiple red dot optic setups so its pretty flexible. Likewise it goes on and off pretty easy.
@mightywombat Brightness can be adjusted by the eotech adjustments. A lot of the newer models like the EXPS models have the button adjustments on the side instead of the back. You pretty much have to flip the magnifier to the side to hit the buttons on the Eotech.
@tater259 That particular flipper mount is made for the Eotech magnifier, but there are other flip to side mounts. I don't know of any off the top of my head that can be used to attach an actual sight too. I think the biggest concern was the loss of zero from a mount like that. I guess thinking about it could work.
@TheTroutman85 It shouldn't be a problem since the only difference between the XPS2 and XPS3 is night vision compatibility. I don't think you could use Nightvision and a magnifier at the same time, even if you did have the rail space. It should also work with the newer EXPS models but it may need to have a riser or shim ot make it sit higher.
@RyanHoulio It should work since it is very similar to the Aimpoint magnifier just like Aimpoint's magnifier will work with an Eotech. I've found that the magnifier doesn't work too well with Aimpoint Micros (H-1, T-1, R-1) because the tubes on those are smaller than the magnifiers, but they still work enough to be usable. The Aimpoint Pro's tube is pretty much the same size as the Comps, M2, M4's etc so should work ok.
@alxbuby89 It's weight is negligible and can be removed from the rifle totally and carried on you're load bearing gear. It isn't exclusively geared towards those who as you say go to war. It also doesn't have a zoom it simply provides 3 times the magnification. It along with the Eotech holosight weighs as much as some current military issued ACOG sights which are either 3x or 4x. The point is to take a non magnified optic and add a 3x magnification option that you can rapidly engage or disengage
@acdaincorg I usually keep an eye on ebay including seller feedback. Botach sometimes has incredible details but it can be hit or miss sometimes when it comes to their service. I also like checking out equipment exchange forums here and there like on arfdotcom. Ebay seems to be the best, but buyer beware if you know what I mean.
@sgtdoyle28 Yes sir, you can simply unscrew the optic from the mount, and remount it the other direction so it will flip open the other way. So far I haven't had any issues with brass hitting it when flipped to the right, but everyone has their personal preferences.
It's very hard to hear your audio, i don't know if it's just my speakers or not but they work fine in other videos. I have an eotech xps2-0 but i was mailed the xps2-1 model instead. I was thinking about sending it back for the -0 model but i kinda like the single red dot. Which one would you prefer and why?
@ImWatchinTheTube It depends on your preference. The big advantage of the Eotech, along with similar optics, is they are quick to acquire and place on target because they are to put it simply...bright. A variable power scope type optic could work also but most are just fine black lines for a reticle. Typically red dot type optics are used with both eyes open, while most people have to focus with just one eye to use traditional cross hairs. Both work, so it just depends on what you want.
@ImWatchinTheTube I personally can't. It's hard for my right eye to focus on something 3 times bigger while my left eye is looking at normal magnification. At close range objects I can pull it off but for longer ranges I have to use just my dominate (right) eye.
@ImWatchinTheTube Its a little harder to use both eyes with the magnifier than it is using the red dot without magnification. Since its magnified it helps to use one eye to focus. You could probably do it but it would take some time to get used to it.
@thotkrime Depending on your rifle there isn't much rail space for two optics and a sight. Some people move their optics onto the hand guard rails but that usually isn't recommended even on some of the best rails. Most people use a folding backup sight that be can flipped up if the magnifier is removed or flipped to the side. Not all flip up buis will sit underneath the magnifier so be careful of what combination you try. I think the new GEN2 MBUS by magpul have fixed that problem for example.
@27erndog Thats a tough call. It maybe expensive but if you could get the 4x Acog and the RMR mounted on top you'd have a pretty good setup Expensive and maybe heavier but a good setup.
@MrMonkeyman2424 I'm just starting to look at scopes and they're are even more choices to look at there. personally I like looking at swfa dot com for scopes. They have reviews and all sorts of brands to chose from. I think about any other brand of magnifier will work as long as your not beating the crap out of it. The mount may also be crucial. Unlike other optics the magnifiers don't need to be zeroed just centered so loosing zero is not an issue.
@MrMonkeyman2424 All depends on how cheap you can get these optics. Even used you're looking at around $400 for an Eotech holosight and closer to $500 for the magnifier. There are a lot of cheaper magnifiers out there some with greater magnification. I know Vortex makes a 3x and I think Mako makes a bunch of cheap ones. I don't know how good they are. The options for red dot style optics are also numerous, so you can find cheaper alternativeness.
@losunimo88 Not that I'm aware of. Magnifiers are pretty much like scopes just without the cross hairs or reticles. I don't know what they would need to do to build a squared off magnifying set of lenses, but it is probably difficult if not impossible for all I know. There are lots of different brands of magnifiers out there, but I haven't seen any squared of ones yet.
@1776PatriotTeenIt is actually pronounced ret-i-cle with the t in the first syllable not the second. I personally have always pronounced it rect-i-cle and added the extra "C" for some reason. Just a bad habit or maybe a speech impediment, but I don't use a "P". I even try to spell it with the extra "C", but luckily most spell catchers correct it for me. It’s a shame that you can watch a video and get nothing more from it than grammar errors and then disrespectfully correct someone incorrectly.
I just completed my rifle build and i got these same optics, but i went with the EXPS2.0, same as yours but has the quick detach instead of the thumb screw and the buttons on the side. This allowed me to group them nice and tight. It all sits perfect with the magpul mbus rear site too. Thanks for the video!
leav your colt like it is its worth more that way colts anyway thats what the gun owner at the 2 bigest gun shop in oregon said and you would think he would just try to sell me something
@carmas54 No there is not adjustments to magnification or focus. There are adjustments for adjusting the image seen through the magnifier. That way you can adjust the magnifier so the actual eotech reticle or red dot is centered in your view. The newer one like in the video has the adjustments on the tube itself. The older version had adjustments on the mount. Other than that there is no focus or magnification adjustments. It is very simple to use.
Thank you for taking the time to make a great video. I have a Smith and Wesson M&P with an EOTECH 512 and Magpul BUIS, and I want to add a magnifier. I don't understand why you can't mount the scopes farther forward. I don't want to have my BUIS underneath the magnifier. Is there an issue with mounting the front scope on the forearm? I've noticed in some videos that the rail on the forearm and the rail on the rifle are uneven but that does not appear to be an issue on your rifle.
@skankeythesamurai432 I think there is a general distrust of mounting optics on the forearm, which may not be as justifiable as it used to be. A lot of the rail systems are rock solid and the monolithic ones are just as solid as the upper receiver rail. If your rail is uninterrupted I'd say mount it anywhere on the rail you want. If your rail has a gap I'd try to keep it off the gap at least. Unlike irons sight radius really shouldn't be an issue. All you can do is try it out.
@whiteguy45 In theory depending on how you use your red dot I suppose it could. If you normally put your dot over the target completely the bigger the dot the more of the target it may cover. I think thats one reason why people claim they're not good at longer ranges like say 200 yards and out. If you use the top of the dot for reference point when lining up a shot then dot diameter won't mean a whole lot. Despite being made for close shots they still work at range
Very helpful video. Thank you. Do you know if placing the EOTech on high quality rails such as Daniel Defense, Larue, etc would cause any issues? I have an older version of the EOTech, the 512. If I were to get the magnifier, I doubt I could place both on the upper receiver. Thanks! Take care.
@AmyLeesPetWookiee If you're mounting an optic like an Eotech along with a magnifier and an BUIS you're gonna run out of room fast. If you can mount the Eotech forward enough that the front goes over the handguards you can get an inch or so. A Daniel Defense or Larue riser will definitely get your optics high enough to go out over the rail. Its just some rails sit pretty high and the Eotech will bump into it unless you have a newer cantilever design. Larue and Daniel Defense are good products.
@alpha9mm I think Eotech discontinued the 4x magnifier. Maybe since it cost like $700 had something to do with it not selling. There are a few different brands out there now and I think one went as high as 7 power. I know they're cheaper and might not be as rugged, but if your not abusing it I'd think they'd work.
@STKhero By carbine standards it's heavier than some, but by M16A2 standards which I carried over a dozen years ago it's very light. I wouldn't even begin to compare it to a M249 when it comes to lugging it around. If the rifle does get heavy I could always detach the magnifier if not in use and save about a half a pound. Its nice to have the option available, unlike some of the ACOG's that weigh more than a pound for example.
@MrAzcabowabo The mount that comes with the current Eotech magnifier are specifically for them. If you look at around 5:35 you see the two screws that go through the mount into the magnifier. If you have a magnifier that is just a round tube with no specific mounting points I'd look at LaRue's LT670-EO but bear in mind they cost as much as some Magnifiers do. I also don't know what the diameter of magnifier tube is that it is made for.
Sold. If my rail allows I am going to stack the 3x magnifier and the EOTech 512 on my 450 Bushmaster. I love equipment that sell's itself. Great video.
This rifle it technically a carbine because it uses a carbine length gas system. It has a 16" barrel. The rail I used would work with either gas system because it is 10" long it will cover the gas block whether it is carbine length or mid-length. You can get rails that will cover your gas block which would need to be very low profile gas block or you could get one that will let you use a traditional front sight base gas block.
The guys who hate aimpoints say it looks like looking through a tube, with the 3X it looks like a tube view. Keeping both eyes open I'm sure you don't even notice.
@semiautoriflelover The Aimpoint Micro took some time getting used to it. I really haven't tried a 3x on the micro because I don't think it will work as well. It would probably work on the full sized Aimpoint
@black1705f I forgot you had the eotech. I think I will get the aimpoint though because if it works don't fix it and I've been having problems when I switch to new brands.
@semiautoriflelover I really like the Aimpoint a little better. So much smaller. I wish the prices weren't so much higher. Even the XPS Eotechs are really wide compared to the micro aimpoints.
@markd0tcom You don't real zero the magnifier but you do adjust it so the eotech recticle is centered in the magnifier. It only magnifies your eotech and the eotech needs to be zeroed. I've used the magnifier to aid me in zeroing as well since you get like 3x magnification.
@joerider777 It's a Colt 6920 with a 16" barrel with the M4 profile, with Magpul MOE stock, XTM rail covers and trigger guard, Troy M4 sights and OEM sling mount, and Daniel Defense 10" M4 rail. The camera image kind of makes it look short and fat, but it's actually a little longer.
Excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing. It's people like you who take the time and effort to pass on information that make it easier for the rest of us. Thanks again.
@DKassaian1219 It should work with others, I'm just not sure what sort of field of vision you could achieve. It should work with Aimpoints since Aimpoint makes there own 3x magnifier too. I've never had a chance to try it with anything else but an Aimpoint Micro. The micros are so small that the magnifier is kind of hard to look through. It would probably work better with larger Aimpoint models.
@SuperSetCA basically it's a flat piece of metal that I attached to the take down pin holes of the upper with nuts and bolts. On that metal plate is a plastic piece that is made for picatinny rails. I run a long bolt off of that to another small plate where I use a bolt that threads into the bottom of my Kodak Zi8. Its pretty ghetto. I'm working on a method to mount behind my optics so I can film while shooting. I'll probably make a video about both mount ideas once I get if figured out exactly.
That's a very nice setup. I like the shorter Eotechs and the 3X magnifier on a flip out mount is a must for the slightly longer engagements. I have a Millett DMS-1 currently but I don't like that I cant use my BUIS without removing the optics. Great video!
@MrSurgicalPrecision I'm really kind of digging my Aimpoint Micro even with the 4MOA dot. I was contemplating getting the XPS2-1, but they're hard to come by and I'm pretty used to the 65moa ring reticle and its not too busy. I've not tried too many others though :(
@black1705f I have added a Millett DMS-1 to my so called "SHTF rifle" for the time being. The future will see either an Eotech or Aimpoint, either one will be wearing a magnifier. Limited funds here so I have to get a lot of bang for my buck. Haven't got to test a lot of optics myself.
If you have your 3x magnifier down to only use the xps 2.0, how big of an issue would brass hitting that magnifier be? I would imagine in it's take down position you run the risk of it being damaged by ejected brass, no?

@mightywombat Brightness can be adjusted by the eotech adjustments. A lot of the newer models like the EXPS models have the button adjustments on the side instead of the back. You pretty much have to flip the magnifier to the side to hit the buttons on the Eotech.
black1705f 2 months ago
question. Can you put a flipper on the XPS2-0 ? Would be nice so you can change to iron sights really quicl
tater259 3 months ago
@tater259 That particular flipper mount is made for the Eotech magnifier, but there are other flip to side mounts. I don't know of any off the top of my head that can be used to attach an actual sight too. I think the biggest concern was the loss of zero from a mount like that. I guess thinking about it could work.

Can you mount the eotech magnifier on the xps3?
TheTroutman85 3 months ago
@TheTroutman85 It shouldn't be a problem since the only difference between the XPS2 and XPS3 is night vision compatibility. I don't think you could use Nightvision and a magnifier at the same time, even if you did have the rail space. It should also work with the newer EXPS models but it may need to have a riser or shim ot make it sit higher.
black1705f 3 months ago
Is it true you can throw this on with an aimpoint (pro)
RyanHoulio 4 months ago
@RyanHoulio It should work since it is very similar to the Aimpoint magnifier just like Aimpoint's magnifier will work with an Eotech. I've found that the magnifier doesn't work too well with Aimpoint Micros (H-1, T-1, R-1) because the tubes on those are smaller than the magnifiers, but they still work enough to be usable. The Aimpoint Pro's tube is pretty much the same size as the Comps, M2, M4's etc so should work ok.
black1705f 4 months ago
@alxbuby89 It's weight is negligible and can be removed from the rifle totally and carried on you're load bearing gear. It isn't exclusively geared towards those who as you say go to war. It also doesn't have a zoom it simply provides 3 times the magnification. It along with the Eotech holosight weighs as much as some current military issued ACOG sights which are either 3x or 4x. The point is to take a non magnified optic and add a 3x magnification option that you can rapidly engage or disengage

dude, nice pond, lol - great review. I'm looking into getting a similar set up - where is the best place to pick one up.
acdaincorg 6 months ago
@acdaincorg I usually keep an eye on ebay including seller feedback. Botach sometimes has incredible details but it can be hit or miss sometimes when it comes to their service. I also like checking out equipment exchange forums here and there like on arfdotcom. Ebay seems to be the best, but buyer beware if you know what I mean.

can you switch the side the magnifier moves to?
sgtdoyle28 6 months ago
@sgtdoyle28 Yes sir, you can simply unscrew the optic from the mount, and remount it the other direction so it will flip open the other way. So far I haven't had any issues with brass hitting it when flipped to the right, but everyone has their personal preferences.

What's the advantage of the magnifier w/ flip mount vs. a simple variable power scope?
ImWatchinTheTube 7 months ago
@ImWatchinTheTube It depends on your preference. The big advantage of the Eotech, along with similar optics, is they are quick to acquire and place on target because they are to put it simply...bright. A variable power scope type optic could work also but most are just fine black lines for a reticle. Typically red dot type optics are used with both eyes open, while most people have to focus with just one eye to use traditional cross hairs. Both work, so it just depends on what you want.
black1705f 7 months ago
@black1705f OK, thanks. Can you use the magnifier with both eyes open easily?
ImWatchinTheTube 7 months ago
@ImWatchinTheTube I personally can't. It's hard for my right eye to focus on something 3 times bigger while my left eye is looking at normal magnification. At close range objects I can pull it off but for longer ranges I have to use just my dominate (right) eye.
black1705f 7 months ago
@black1705f Ok, thanks for the info.
ImWatchinTheTube 7 months ago
@ImWatchinTheTube Its a little harder to use both eyes with the magnifier than it is using the red dot without magnification. Since its magnified it helps to use one eye to focus. You could probably do it but it would take some time to get used to it.
black1705f 7 months ago
Can you still keep your iron sights on if you put on the 3x magnifier? Or do you have to have it all the way back?
thotkrime 8 months ago

Im looking at a magnifier, TMS Tactical 3x Magnifier, and i need a nice scope, or sight is really what i need, but a nice sight to with it
MrMonkeyman2424 10 months ago
@MrMonkeyman2424 I'm just starting to look at scopes and they're are even more choices to look at there. personally I like looking at swfa dot com for scopes. They have reviews and all sorts of brands to chose from. I think about any other brand of magnifier will work as long as your not beating the crap out of it. The mount may also be crucial. Unlike other optics the magnifiers don't need to be zeroed just centered so loosing zero is not an issue.
black1705f 10 months ago
How much is the full setup? Sight, magnification, and mount? If anyone can help me find this setup the cheapest i can plz
MrMonkeyman2424 10 months ago
@MrMonkeyman2424 All depends on how cheap you can get these optics. Even used you're looking at around $400 for an Eotech holosight and closer to $500 for the magnifier. There are a lot of cheaper magnifiers out there some with greater magnification. I know Vortex makes a 3x and I think Mako makes a bunch of cheap ones. I don't know how good they are. The options for red dot style optics are also numerous, so you can find cheaper alternativeness.
black1705f 10 months ago
is there an eotech magnifiers thats square view instead of a circle?
losunimo88 10 months ago
@losunimo88 Not that I'm aware of. Magnifiers are pretty much like scopes just without the cross hairs or reticles. I don't know what they would need to do to build a squared off magnifying set of lenses, but it is probably difficult if not impossible for all I know. There are lots of different brands of magnifiers out there, but I haven't seen any squared of ones yet.

1776PatriotTeen 10 months ago
@1776PatriotTeenIt is actually pronounced ret-i-cle with the t in the first syllable not the second. I personally have always pronounced it rect-i-cle and added the extra "C" for some reason. Just a bad habit or maybe a speech impediment, but I don't use a "P". I even try to spell it with the extra "C", but luckily most spell catchers correct it for me. It’s a shame that you can watch a video and get nothing more from it than grammar errors and then disrespectfully correct someone incorrectly.

is the eye piece on the magnifier adjustable in any way?
carmas54 1 year ago
@carmas54 No there is not adjustments to magnification or focus. There are adjustments for adjusting the image seen through the magnifier. That way you can adjust the magnifier so the actual eotech reticle or red dot is centered in your view. The newer one like in the video has the adjustments on the tube itself. The older version had adjustments on the mount. Other than that there is no focus or magnification adjustments. It is very simple to use.
black1705f 1 year ago
Thank you for taking the time to make a great video. I have a Smith and Wesson M&P with an EOTECH 512 and Magpul BUIS, and I want to add a magnifier. I don't understand why you can't mount the scopes farther forward. I don't want to have my BUIS underneath the magnifier. Is there an issue with mounting the front scope on the forearm? I've noticed in some videos that the rail on the forearm and the rail on the rifle are uneven but that does not appear to be an issue on your rifle.
skankeythesamurai432 1 year ago
@skankeythesamurai432 I think there is a general distrust of mounting optics on the forearm, which may not be as justifiable as it used to be. A lot of the rail systems are rock solid and the monolithic ones are just as solid as the upper receiver rail. If your rail is uninterrupted I'd say mount it anywhere on the rail you want. If your rail has a gap I'd try to keep it off the gap at least. Unlike irons sight radius really shouldn't be an issue. All you can do is try it out.

would a magnifier mess up the MOA on a normal red dot?
like make it too big to accurate
whiteguy45 1 year ago

Thanks! Take care.
AmyLeesPetWookiee 1 year ago
@AmyLeesPetWookiee If you're mounting an optic like an Eotech along with a magnifier and an BUIS you're gonna run out of room fast. If you can mount the Eotech forward enough that the front goes over the handguards you can get an inch or so. A Daniel Defense or Larue riser will definitely get your optics high enough to go out over the rail. Its just some rails sit pretty high and the Eotech will bump into it unless you have a newer cantilever design. Larue and Daniel Defense are good products.
black1705f 1 year ago
Do they still make a 4x magnifier because I can't find one on the website?
alpha9mm 1 year ago
@alpha9mm I think Eotech discontinued the 4x magnifier. Maybe since it cost like $700 had something to do with it not selling. There are a few different brands out there now and I think one went as high as 7 power. I know they're cheaper and might not be as rugged, but if your not abusing it I'd think they'd work.

that gun must be heavy as shit
STKhero 1 year ago
@STKhero By carbine standards it's heavier than some, but by M16A2 standards which I carried over a dozen years ago it's very light. I wouldn't even begin to compare it to a M249 when it comes to lugging it around. If the rifle does get heavy I could always detach the magnifier if not in use and save about a half a pound. Its nice to have the option available, unlike some of the ACOG's that weigh more than a pound for example.
black1705f 1 year ago
I got a different magnifier. Will that flip mount fit any 30mm magnifier? Thx!
MrAzcabowabo 1 year ago
@MrAzcabowabo The mount that comes with the current Eotech magnifier are specifically for them. If you look at around 5:35 you see the two screws that go through the mount into the magnifier. If you have a magnifier that is just a round tube with no specific mounting points I'd look at LaRue's LT670-EO but bear in mind they cost as much as some Magnifiers do. I also don't know what the diameter of magnifier tube is that it is made for.
black1705f 1 year ago
Sold. If my rail allows I am going to stack the 3x magnifier and the EOTech 512 on my 450 Bushmaster. I love equipment that sell's itself. Great video.
TheSulcotaylor 1 year ago
This rifle it technically a carbine because it uses a carbine length gas system. It has a 16" barrel. The rail I used would work with either gas system because it is 10" long it will cover the gas block whether it is carbine length or mid-length. You can get rails that will cover your gas block which would need to be very low profile gas block or you could get one that will let you use a traditional front sight base gas block.

semiautoriflelover 1 year ago
@semiautoriflelover The Aimpoint Micro took some time getting used to it. I really haven't tried a 3x on the micro because I don't think it will work as well. It would probably work on the full sized Aimpoint

@black1705f I forgot you had the eotech. I think I will get the aimpoint though because if it works don't fix it and I've been having problems when I switch to new brands.

do you have to zero the magnifier too?
markd0tcom 1 year ago
@markd0tcom You don't real zero the magnifier but you do adjust it so the eotech recticle is centered in the magnifier. It only magnifies your eotech and the eotech needs to be zeroed. I've used the magnifier to aid me in zeroing as well since you get like 3x magnification.

joerider777 1 year ago
@joerider777 It's a Colt 6920 with a 16" barrel with the M4 profile, with Magpul MOE stock, XTM rail covers and trigger guard, Troy M4 sights and OEM sling mount, and Daniel Defense 10" M4 rail. The camera image kind of makes it look short and fat, but it's actually a little longer.

will the scope only work on that style red dot sight or will it work on others
DKassaian1219 1 year ago
@DKassaian1219 It should work with others, I'm just not sure what sort of field of vision you could achieve. It should work with Aimpoints since Aimpoint makes there own 3x magnifier too. I've never had a chance to try it with anything else but an Aimpoint Micro. The micros are so small that the magnifier is kind of hard to look through. It would probably work better with larger Aimpoint models.
black1705f 1 year ago
Great job, man. Can you provide some detail about the camera and mount you used to look down the EOTech?
SuperSetCA 1 year ago
@SuperSetCA basically it's a flat piece of metal that I attached to the take down pin holes of the upper with nuts and bolts. On that metal plate is a plastic piece that is made for picatinny rails. I run a long bolt off of that to another small plate where I use a bolt that threads into the bottom of my Kodak Zi8. Its pretty ghetto. I'm working on a method to mount behind my optics so I can film while shooting. I'll probably make a video about both mount ideas once I get if figured out exactly.

black1705f 1 year ago
@black1705f I have added a Millett DMS-1 to my so called "SHTF rifle" for the time being. The future will see either an Eotech or Aimpoint, either one will be wearing a magnifier. Limited funds here so I have to get a lot of bang for my buck. Haven't got to test a lot of optics myself.
