YES! Chili beans and rice is one of my favorite meals to make when I know I need to eat, but don't feel like spending a hell of a lot of time in the kitchen!
I'm a very fussy eater allways have been. I like the rice though, I could just eat a bowl of that, but now that you've asked me I can't think of food that I like, Bet you that as soon as I go off youtube I will think of all the food I like.
I couldn't agree more. I think being vegan has increased my appreciation and gratitude for everything I have. It's made me a lot less selfish overall...which really makes you feel good :-)
Thanks Ducky, I wonder if its just an excuse not to go vegan??? I was 'mostly vegetarian' while I was a student purely because I couldn't afford to eat meat more then once or twice a week.
No we grow tomatoes really well in Australia, some parts have a perfect mediterranian climate. You can buy them fresh too...I'm confused now as to why we buy them in cans *scratches head*
Are the tomatoes you're talking about already stewed/cooked somehow? That's what I assumed you were referring to because otherwise most people WOULD just buy them fresh.
You can't get spaghetti sauce there? I think what she is calling 'tinned tom-ah-toes' are 'a can of stewed tomatoes' in the US... If I wanted to find them, I'd go to the spaghetti aisle, I think. Don't know if you tried that or not.
I know you're not IN the US, just giving you an idea of where to look besides the canned veggies! :)
I'm on a weight gain diet at the moment, went through a stressful period and dropped more weight then I am comfortable with, so I am eating as much as I possibly can :-)
Most of the time I spice it myself, tonight I was lazy and I thought it was better to include the easy way anyway because lots of people are inexperienced when it comes to cooking :-)
Oh yeah, it would definately work well with wraps! I forgot to mention that because my partner is wheat and gluten intolerant so bread-like foods are off the menu a lot of the time.
Hell yeah, it's good food for anyone no matter what their usual diet. I actually switched to the meat free version of this AGES ago when I was still a full blown meat eater, firstly because I liked it better and then I continued with it because while I was a poor student meat was just too expensive to have more then a few times a week. This is why I really don't understand ppl saying that vegan food is more expensive. Unless you eat *really* low quality meat it is soooooo expensive these days.
Maybe I should check if THERE ARE tinned tomatoes here in Guatemala, I have never seen them before though... I swear it sounds like such a weird concept for me LOL
Yum yum yum! I love brown rice too! Your dinner looks delicious :-) and the best part is that there's no dead stuff in it! Yay!
If you want to make this but don't have the taco seasoning mix:
1 tsp oregano
1/3 tsp cumin
1/3 tsp basil
1/3 tsp thyme
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
works well :D. I added red pepper too.

@CCmachine per person that is. I used a half onion, 200 g chopped tomatoes, 130 g beans and 1/3 a clove of garlic too.

Hey!
Yesterday I went to the supermarket with my mom and we searched exhaustively for tinned tomatoes... there are NONE!
So my mom told me maybe you got them like that because they don't grow tomatoes in Australia perhaps?
It was really funny because we were looking for them so much and not because we wanted to buy them but to show you... LOL
So, no such thing as tinned tomatoes in Guatemala at all! :-/

Yeah, they are stewed I guess. They are often used as the base of caseroles and curries and stews etc.

Yummy BUT:
You can eat this whole portion? :O
I make my chilli with beans/tinned tomatoes/corn/onions/garlic/etc. and soy-granules

Only difference from my chili con carne is that I use minced meat. I also frequently use corn.
I will try it without the meat next.
Oh, and I use spices rather then a bag of taco seasoning mix.
