An ironic thing... On Google maps, you find this video just outside Gerlach, NV - where the festival has resided since 1998. (Actually, I haven't been there since 2002, but last I knew it was there). The great thing about 1996 and years prior was that the festival was MILES away from town... You really felt like you were so far away from anything... cause you were. It was like being on the moon... 1997, it was close to the road, but far from town.. And ever since.. it's just too close in for me.

your right about that. i was there in 1996 and will never forget the drive out to the man. we arrived after dark before the moon came up over the mountains, it was pitch black, there was not point of reference and it felt like we were driving up a wall for at least 20 minutes before we could see any signs of campers. when the moon came over the mountains the ground glowed and it felt like we were on the moon. truly awesome.
