@jellyking12345:I still don't think a .410 has enough oomph for turkeys.I know that the ammunition has been going through some upgrades over the past few years but I grew up with the weak ammunition for the .410 my folks allowed me,and the fodder for it wasn't recommended for deer or self defense.
@jellyking12345 Maybe so.The .410 has a narrow shot column which means not as much shot is being thrown.I'd rather not learn that the badguy was on something after I've shot him and watched, expecting that he's gonna fall over when he's revved up on something other than pure air.If I use a firearm for self defense,I'd rather see the guy laying on the ground, out of his boots. Not shaking it off and coming after me.
But i somehow doubt that a little old lady is going to want to pull the trigger of a 12 bore shotgun, given that the recoil will probally do more damage to her than the shot would to the bad guy!
If its all you got lying around, then of course you would use it right?
@jellyking12345 Yeah and FWIW,I have been considering a .410 if only to use to teach the neighbor's kid how to shoot safely & maybe get her Mom hunting.
A .410 shotgun at close range is DEADLY with ballistics equivalent to a .41 magnum. Most self-defense shootings take place at 10 ft or less & the light recoil is an advantage for a quick 2nd shot.
Discharging a 12 gauge inside one's house will likely cause permanent deafness in the shooter as well as penetrate the neighbor's house in an urban setting. I own lots of different guns & a .410 pump shotgun w/ pistol grips loaded w/ birdshot is my 1st choice for home defense
What kind of disturbs me is that Tennessee this year started allowing a;; guages inlcuding .410 for turkey hunting. You have to get ever closer to turkeys with a .410 to get enough energy in the pellets to make a kill. Not saying that a .410 doesn't have uses.I just consider it to be a bit anemic when coming to large game.
Well some people might see using a .410 to hunt with as a challenge because it is harder and therefore requires more skill (due to having to get closer, and having less shot in each cartridge).
I guess a .410 slug will be fine for some large game, but it is probally more humane and easier to just use a 12/20 gauge.
Just consider yourself lucky that you are allowed guns! It is mega hard to get access to them here...
@jellyking12345 In Tennessee?Pick out the shooter you want, lay out the money,go through a background check & if you pass, you can go home with it that day.A few years ago,a law got passed where anyone arrested on assault charges had to prove that it wasn't domestic violence.Since my case was dealt by the DA down to misdemeanor charges b/c he couldn't prove I'd started the fight, until the state police got their records in order,I had to prove every time that I wasn't a convicted felon.
I think you will be able to handle a 12 gauge, try it.
Otherwise, check out your local firearms dealer and see what they have; or head down to the shooting club and see it you can test one there before you buy.
You can always check the internet. Just google the shotgun your after and see if you can find one for sale.
@jellyking12345 i did today and i liked it only cause it had a high quality recoil pad on it. i can handle it but i think im going with a 20 gauge anyway. either a side by side or over and up.
Well the killing range is only 40 yards probally. Depends on cartridges used as 3" magnums are oviously going to extend the range compared to 2 1/4" shells.
@jellyking12345 Got it back from my Brother-in-law. My brother said I can keep it at my house. Have shot it twice in the past few days. About 12 shells in all.My friend is buying the Marlin Lever action 410.
@jellyking12345 Guess the Montgomery wards Gun is long gone. When I was a kid, my dad bought me a 20 Ga. 870 which i sold later. And, my brother got the 410. Now my brother in law has that gun. And, I shouldn't ask for it. Since it was given to my brother. Do have a 1910 Remington 11 and a 1925 Winchester model 12.
@baconator490 That Dosent look like a .410 the barrel looks to small i have a .410 double barrel gun but i dont know what brand it was my dads squrill hunting gun
.410 isnt a very wide shotshell so you dont need a heavy barrel for it so it looks small. i doubt its a double .22 or other rifle so it has to be .410
If you bothered to watch my other vid you would have noticed that i was shooting a muzzle loader! which was probaly a 12 guage or bigger. I shoot 12 guages all the fucking time you cock.....

A .410 is better than nothing though right?
being shot with a .410 is still going to do more damage than a punch :)

They make brilliant child friendly firearms because of the light weight and low recoil.
Hunting is fairly limited to rabbits, squirrels, crows etc....

Good.
Some people prefer 20 gauge anyway due to the softer recoil.
jellyking12345 9 months ago
@jellyking12345 ya know anywhere i can get an over and under or side by side cheap?
ambspier 9 months ago
Check the "for sale" part in the back of a shooting magazine.
Should have the local firearms for sale at reasonable prices.
jellyking12345 9 months ago
@ambspier go to local pawn shop or academy

From were you were standing it looked like a 9mm rifle, because the barrel looked really small! LOL
SuperFunnyguy5 2 years ago
Oh right. In real life the barrels are really small and thin. The cartriges are tiny aswell and as you can see there is no recoil.
jellyking12345 2 years ago
i couldn't see the clays, how did you do?
mortson978 2 years ago
i hit about 13/15 clays. This was my first time shooting a 410 so i didnt really know what to expect :D
