The demo also had a bug - if you paused your game with the inventory open, you could pick an item, "drop" it and return it to your inventory, and it would stay in your inventory as well as dropping on the floor. That, combined with books that don't require higher magic skills with each spell level gained, allowed you to have level 20 healing and identify spells easily on the demo...
...Plus when you first enter the Labyrinth, he says "The smell of death surrounds me..." (I'm aware he says that in the catacombs in the full version, but that sounds much more 'fitting' with the music from the first few levels).
And "Please help... I barely escaped from the Butcher... he killed... my wife, my children... I beg of you, in the name of God... avenge them..." ---- that fkn gave me the chills as a kid xD.
Yeah this one was my first impression of Diablo back in '96, and trust me, when I got the full version, I was honestly disappointed about how it's not as "dark and brooding" as this pre-release demo made it out to be. Most of the graphics (like for weapons for example) look more real in this, and you haven't shown the "Tavern Owner"'s voice in this vid... in the full version it's kinda 'comic', in this it sounds full on creepy the way he tells you all that LOL.
Wish the retail version would've had all the original planned quests, too many things are missing from the game and the retail version shows signs of it. Still a great, fun, simple and addictive game to this day and a shame that there are still cheaters without lives infesting battle.net.
great post this is awesome. never saw it before. every voice in different than the real game....no Cain or Pepin:( Griswolds voice was funny...I liked his Irish/Scottish accent in the game. glad they didnt put the game out like this
Because I spent a couple years playing it. I got many high level characters (including a level 99 Barbarian) and got banned. Never liked Diablo II, never will.

This was my first impression of Diablo, so I remember I was surprised by all the small differences when I finally got the real game.
Like, first I thought Grisvolds new voice was just wierd, but as I continued to play, I say the genious character in it =)

When i got the demo it didn't look anything like this
besmith12345 3 years ago
You're talking about Diablo Spawn, which is the real demo. The Pre-Release Demo was a demo made before Diablo to get people interested in it.
Nerthing 3 years ago
Oh alright, that's cool, i'v seen you on diablo 2 befor.
besmith12345 3 years ago
I don't play Diablo II; I'm on a bot that's logged into the game.
Nerthing 3 years ago
Why don't you play diablo 2?
besmith12345 3 years ago
Because I spent a couple years playing it. I got many high level characters (including a level 99 Barbarian) and got banned. Never liked Diablo II, never will.
Nerthing 3 years ago
How did you get banned?
besmith12345 3 years ago
Don't remember. Probably for something stupid.
Nerthing 3 years ago
oh, that's pretty stupid i didn't even know you could get banned.

Will you make a Brain Lord tip guide?? I hope you do
gyromancy2 3 years ago
Never thought about doing that. Guess I'll do that soon.
Nerthing 3 years ago
Forget about those guides. A guide for Baldur's Gate(PC) series would be the best
