Made simple, if we can heat up Mars' atmosphere, the ice caps would melt and there would be water, which would allow us to grow plants, which would create oxygen in the air, which would allow us to breathe. If we did proceed to do this project, it would take more than 1000 years, so none of us would be alive, unless the make some technology that keeps us alive forever.

If we work the plan will work.but imagine if we all piled onto mars and aliens are on there we would be invading there home! I do like the idea of moving onto mars though they say that once rivers ponds and even seas used to flow on mars.But I would never leave earth I love this planet.also on the Internet it says earth is a female same with mars,on our earth that's why we call it mother nature because our planets a female.

Something everyone is forgetting---Mars has no geomagnetic field (the core of Mars as 'aged'); if there were a fluid liquid iron/nickel outer core, given Mars rapid 24-hr rotation a geomag field would exist but does not---without geomagnetic field no terraforming is possible. Then as u stated, the time periods is 1,000 of yrs if not longer! Use the research money for real and quick proposals for getting American Space Colonies & space-borne industries operational!
