  • Gay. Next time compare a Ferrari with an Orange.

  • @jcpadmore Challenge accepted. Although I'm confused with the "Gay" part. Are you offering something?

  • @amiga2000

no no he's right, you are a faggot.

  • Mame is cabinet with PC and PC have installed MAME emulator right ?

  • @TheFuzimi Sure.

  • i'm a lazy fucker and i want to buy a mame cab (cheap) than build one

  • Could you please compare a bike to a harrier jet next?

  • @nikomo0 I am ON it!

  • as a kid would have loved that arcade cabinet in my home, as an adult that gp2x would do jsut fine...

  • Ofcourse gp2 wins triple

  • what is the name of this song

  • epic fail dude, its like comparing the original thing to A emulator. and how about psp and your gp2x. psp is way better of course. the only thing that is good on your review is the portability nothing else. how about comparing mame cabinet to a gp2x nextime. hahaha...

  • Hardly a fair test!

  • what is this, night at the roxbury? turn that shit off.

  • nothing beats the real arcade machine nostalgia but the gp2x is good for portability

  • does it take coins

  • Yes of course!

  • i want to get one and put it in my laundry mat got any advice

  • gp2x can kiss my ass idont like it thats things stupid and i believe that the emulator cabnent is much better

  • The money's a fact, but i still prefer the real deal

  • hey and you know if killer instinct arcade works in gp2x ?

  • that would be badass if that works C-C-C-C-C-COMBO Breaker!

  • Please compare a fridge to an ice cube...

  • Sorry mate. That video will have to wait. Still working on the tuna fish sandwich vs a 450mw green laser.

  • Oh, that vid would be too easy, observe:

Tuna fish sandwich - tastes ok, edible, can't burn little bits of paper, no amusing little green dot.

450mw laser - Inedible, can burn little bits of paper, amusing green dot.

    Laser wins!

  • :-D

  • @DivPax I've now compared an iPad to the GP2X and other electronic devices...

  • How much was your cabinet?

  • Bought it for around $800 and then sold it for $1600. Then bought another one for $1600. See my video list for 64bit mame cab and that's what I'm playing on now.

  • You got one for 800 dollars? Where from? Shop or direct seller?

  • Craigslist.

  • very good video!!!!

can you please help me to put inside gp2x wiz the mame emulator? thanks!!!

  • very good vid. made me laugh.

  • wtf kind of comparison is this?

next time, compare a FullHD LED 200Hz 42" monitor with a soccer stadium 400" multimonitor screen.

take him to moron mountain with jordan plz.

  • this vid got a little silly towards the end. Good comparisons.

  • GPX is ok but nothing beats playing with real joystick and buttons, standing in front of the real deal. hearing that bass rumble the floor underneath you, whippin your friend next to you in Street fighter II

  • Let's try another comparison. Let's go!

    Posting a gp2x/arcade video: dumb

Posting a response about it: dumb +1

Time taken to make video: 30 minutes

Time taken to respond: 10 seconds

    You're right. You win! :-)

  • "GP2X vs. Arcade MAME Cabinet"

think about this for a second.

now think about how ridiculous it is

  • This is a really unfair competition. This is no different to comparing a house to a car.

  • Let's try. Car = mobile but not a lot of room. House = bigger but not as mobile. We did it! :-)

  • Whether or not the GP2X is more efficient and portable than an arcade doesn't really matter. There is simply nothing better than building, customizing, and finally playing your own arcade cabinet.

  • I can't wait till i make my own cabinet

  • Omit the term "building" from your sentence, seeing as how nearly everyone buys a pre-built cabinet (for most, the pre-built cabinet will include everything but the system).

P.S. I find it funny how people, knowing about emulation, still buy systems that are 100% emulated. Sure, you can always use a cliche reason -- "It's my favorite system!" -- but that doesn't justify the amount you spent.

In the end, I'm a proud owner of a NAOMI with all the fighters. Best part? Got it all for under $200.

  • You're not going to get rid of MAME's input lag, try as you might.

  • Can you play WWF Wrestlefest

  • basta con queste cazzate

  • dude this is an awesome video and has pushed me to buy a gp2x - can you link to me a site that has forums/downloads and info on running mame through the gp2x? (l'm a linux noob)

  • 5:17 lol

  • GP2X is better XDD!+

  • if i had the cash id buy a mame cabinet, if i had major cash id open an old school arcade. arcades are back in fashoin, someone with money needs to take a risk in opening a real arcade and making a profit, then others will follow. "If you build it, they will come"

  • I wish that were true. Unfortunately I'm not so sure it is.

Most folks ask themselves why go to the arcade when you can just sit on your ass with a PS3?

  • I agree. The only places that still have large collections of arcade games for money are pizza and bar type places like Chucky Cheeses and Dave n Busters where both make money off of pizza and drinks using the games to attract.

The only exception to the above in the US are small niche arcades that cater to japanese or fighting games but then they typically go out of business after a year or so.

I think Japan is the only place where you can open an arcade up making money off of the games.

  • I think maybe arcades will come back in about 5 years or more.. people will go if you build them. Nickel game places are sick.. but yha..

  • hay que ser pendejos para comparar el port demame para una consola al verdadero mame puro y duro

  • Why can't one have and arcade cabinet inthe crapper? But good point becuase even a laptop would be a pain in the ass.

  • we sort of have the big bang of that idea in mobile phones(mobile phone:greatest invention of the 20th century, the limits arnt even final yet), i play games on my mobile on the crapper. i need to be entertained constantly, having a crap was downtime, now i can enetertain myself and take a shit which is half entertaining in itself, nice vids amiga

  • playing a game on a two inch screen is not that fun

  • But playing authentic 80's games while taking a dump... you can't do that with a real arcade.

  • indeed!

  • It's 3.5 inch

  • Hahahah fantastic video man

  • hahaha man i've seen one of the best videos in youtube... You have a great sence of humor! very welldone! And a great comparison.

  • I have an arcade cabinet running MAME as well. What is the software interface you're using to select the emulators and providing the backdrop and previews of each game in the menu?

  • There are several FE's / front-end's available. The one I'm using is called "MALA". Other popular ones are (and you'll see them on youtube) Maximus Arcade, Hyperspin, Mamewah, and AtomicFE.

  • Hey mind posting a link to the music playing? I've forgot if it's mentioned in the credits or anything, seeing as it's 4 weeks ago since last I saw this movie.

I'd like to use it as the booting music for my mame arcade machine, cause it'd be awesome. :P

  • Oh wait, I though it was a remix or something. Sorry to the creator, but yeah, mind posting the name of the song?

Both firefox3002 and I would like to have it.

  • It's called "Living on Video" by Trans X

  • What's the song's name nice vid

  • Oh come on.

The whole point of a cabinet is to have a large screen and a ton of controls. You're kind of comparing apples and oranges.

And if you want quick boot time on a cabinet, make use of the hibernate function in whatever underlying OS is running the cabinet, probably Linux or DOS.

  • the gp2x can play marvel vs capcom games?

  • i hope so i just bought one

  • You can't compare a PSP and a PC. That's like comparing a scooter to a firetruck.

  • Sure you can! Let's try: scooter vs firetruck...

    scooter: lightweight, portable, affordable

    firetruck: heavyweight, not agile, expensive

    scooter: can't put out fires

    firetruck: can put out fires.

    see? easy! :-)

  • Whose trying to compare a PSP to a PC? He's comparing a Gp2x to a Mame Cabinet.

  • Well in some of his test, he compares portability and such, which is console site.

  • Oh, a GP2X is an actual portable console? I though it was some sorth of PSP emulator. :D

  • > Oh, a GP2X is an actual portable console? I

    > though it was some sorth of PSP emulator. :D

The GP2X Wiz is the fastest handheld portable gaming system that exists today, it runs more than 3 times the speed of a PSP.

But it costs $10 more than a PSP.

Of course, this is the first generation GP2X. I think it tops out at 200 Mhz, although you can overclock it to an extent.

  • it doesnt take 50 seconds for mame to load a game and the arcade quality is a bonus, but im pretty sure the gp2x cant play games like killer instinct or marvel vs capcom.

  • ...Would you take a cabinet on the go for you to play your arcade games "on the go"? I didn't think so.

  • I wouldn't compare both, I would own both! the GP2X to take it somewhere and be able to play arcade perfect version of MvC at full speed on the go while the arcade cabinet to play at home with bigger screen and greater sound, these videos also attract a lot of trolls like scott6725 and gamemaster14neo who are making stupid comparisons. Of course a laptop is better, but if you want to play just games on the go or whatever, what do you prefer? a laptop or a PSP? and on the case of the cabinet?...

  • This is video is kinda pointless...one is a handheld the other one is pretty much a PC in a cabinet...

  • Your video is wrong about 1 thing, Cabinet is based on a pc which can emulate alot more systems than a gp2x ever could. Power flexability? Really?

I personally think any laptop beats a gp2x since the mame emulating is just so limited on the system its not worth the time or expense if thats all you are getting it for.

  • seconded.

  • Well, you gotta think about this two. The gp2x has like what ? a 3x4 inch screen and crappy sound? in my mame arcade cabinet I have a 32 inch tv, plus a sweet ass stereo system. Theres no way you can compare the two anyways. The gp2x is for travel the cabinet is for show off. Its like comparing a pile of vomit with a peice of shit.

  • Could this on Ipod?

  • Can make sentence complete?

  • Normally I don't like laughing at grammar / English critiques, but you got me to actually lol.

  • Looking back at it, I kinda sound like I'm being a jerk to Warzofidoiots. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

  • where can i download the nes and sega genesis layouts that were being used in the cabinet

  • This is a highly amusing and very informative video! Thank you for sharing.

  • lol italo disco!

I like the gp2x... but you cant compare a portable with a cabinet.

  • A arcade cabinet is way cooler than that device.

  • cool device but i think not a draw, it could be said that its equal to play mame on a normal pc or laptop, or watch baseball, soccer on tv rather then go to a game i'd have gotten a ds or psp if i had a mame cabinet, no offence

  • you forgot to say. Chances of Ower of company running off and stealing all the money and then crashing his farri GP 32 all the time , Aracde cab never ....

All So GP32 has limited Devlopers , Arcade cab is never endng ... Sorrt arcade all the way gp32 its fun while it lasted

  • GP32 =! GP2X.

  • Do you mean the Gizmondo? What does the GP2X or the GP32 have to do with them? I hate fanboys...

  • get questions about your cool "psp"

lol I have a psp but i still think that the

    gp2x it's pretty cool

  • whomever has a mame cabinet or gp2x is set for life. i dont own either and am fucked.

  • Living on video FTW!

  • what is the song?

  • Hi you send me this video response to my mame video's? why? Gp2x is nice for its portability, but your comparing a mame program to a full computer with over 7ooo games and a 4 player control panel.

  • no offense but why would you buy this it cost about the same as a psp but the psp can play mame and more i mean it still is cool but just think about it

  • You're right, they're pretty comparable but the gp2x community is great and the thing uses cheap SD cards which i share w/ my other devices. Plus, there are no firmware changes and the screen doesn't have as much motion blur as the PSP's. On top of that, it uses regular cheap AA's.

  • Well,a gp2x is cool because of its portability, but dude, you can't compare it to the feeling of playing arcade games on a real arcade cabinet :)

  • Lol the tumbtack thing made me crack up.

  • You forget sound ;p

    Nice review though.

  • why cant the psp run mame games this well? surely it can seeing as psp is more powerful.

  • maybe it's just the developers working on it. the psp's snes emulator is pretty awesome though. much better than the gp2x version.

  • Hey klena, the psp CAN run mame...

    lol

ima PM you the link right now...

  • hello thanks for sharing. there's not much info on the types of emulation on gp2x.

what kind of emulators does it have? is it built-in? so I just copy roms to memory card and it will play?

  • There are mountains written about emulators for the gp2x. go to the gp2x wiki and you'll have more to read than you want to.

emulators are not built-in. authors write them, post them, and you copy it to your SD card.

  • i think gp2x sux in compared to a cab, it's like virtually driving a car, cool features and stuff but somethin is just missing, teh arcade feeling i just made one and compared to por devices it sux

  • I think it's so freakin awesome that you downloaded and are using the Bootskin that I created, to boot up your M.A.M.E. ! I use to create Bootskins for WinCustomize under the name "Skinned Alive". Thank You SO Much for using it! I've never gotten to see one of my Skins used in action by someone else before.

  • Are you serious? This is one of the more popular skins I've seen online!!!! Tons of people use it. That's why it's used in this cabinet (which I no longer own) and in the current cab.

    Good job on the skin!

  • Yeah bro. I haven't made any Skins since March of last year. I actually had created an alternate version of that skin with a different background, and had changed the Font style underneath MAME name and around the Progress Bar to more of an Arcade style Font. It looks kind of like the old Pole Position style font from the old Upright. I have it lying around somewhere on a Back-Up Disc. Thank You SO Much for the Great Comment!

  • Just one question... whats with the thumbtack?

  • Nice tune. :D Might I be able to get the name of it?

Yes, it looks like I'll buy a GP2xF200 to play around with. :D I don't know why, I guess seeing that the arcade titles work at decent speed made me become intrigued.

  • one thing to add, the gp2x can be configured to output at a higher resolution to a tv through a backround app that works with all programs.

  • thanks for the video, nice mame cab, i have always liked the metal japanese sit down arcade machines the gamepark looks like an ok machine, but i am going to wait until the price comes down, maybe there should be a video showing the differences between the GP2x and the GP32

  • I no longer own this metal "candy" cab. But man, it was a b!tch and a half to move it upstairs where you see it in the video. I managed to sell it during a house move and had the house movers move it to another house.

  • how much did you sell it for? I would keep the thing on the 'ground' floor, but hey whatever

  • GP2x is effectively illegal to sell and distribute because of the GPL violations. People have been complaining about the non availability of the linux kernel, the MPlayer source and other GPL programs used by GP2x.

  • yeah, it's a shame GPH has decided to take that route. Although nothing is happening because GPH's got little money / market share to go after and everyone's gearing up to the GP2X successor (not the touch screen version).

  • I had to watch this because it seemed a kind of odd comparison. It started off somewhat serious but got funnnier by the minute. It hooked me, I couldn't stop watching.

Simple humour but really funny. Nice job!

  • Congratulations! Yes, humor was the intent. It should be obvious that I enjoy retro gaming and emulation on various platforms. I wouldn't want to be without either.

  • Now you're getting it! :-D

  • I own and love my GP2x, but seriously, what is the point of this? It's like comparing a skateboard and a Ferarri.

Yes, one costs less and you can take it places with you, but it certainly won't do everything the other can do.

Everything has its' place, and this video doesn't come up with anything new that isn't already just plain common sense.

  • Lol, if I could, I would. I suppose you can get in touch with someone on youtube, and collaberate a video together - you make the gp2x video - and the other user makes a PSP video. If you both use the same format to film, i.e the boot screen, the same emus, the same games on those emus.

So then you can compare the two videos, as a video response :)

  • You should DEFINATELY put up a PSP emu vs GP2X emu video - not many of those on here thats up to date, and especially with the new GP2X coming out - you will get loads of views :)

  • I would love to do that. Now I just need a PSP... can you send me one? lol

  • Whats all this about "bought in the shops".. Since when can you purchase a MAME arcade in a shop?!?!

Mame, emulation, Gp2x, emulation - birthed and grows on the internet. Not in shops. Why would you want to get inflated cost in the shops anyways?

BTW - You can't compare an arcade to a handheld, I can see someone hooking up a gp2x INTO a cabinet, onto the dock, tv-out, custom controls in the EXT - very handy.

But you should really compare psp vs gp2x emulation :)

  • Actually here in town, you can buy one at Fry's and many of the pool table / game room type stores. ...and they're even more expensive than places on the net.

BTW, in the next video, I'll be comparing the gp2x to an open faced rueben. I'm not sure what the point will be but it'll sure be delicious!

    lol

  • GP2X sux ass!

  • This is a ridiculous comparison

Hmm, a large screen, full joystick and button layout + multiple players... or a handheld 4 inch screen version that probably cant run CHDs or CPS3 grade emulation.

  • It is a silly comparison. But I'm not sure it's that far off. The gp2x can connect via TV-Out to a "large screen". The gp2x can connect via USB to full joysticks and with multiple players. It can't run CPS3 games but it is less than $200, considerably easier to setup than a real mame cabinet, and portable. yes. portable.

  • I'm not disputing the fact that it's cool (I ordered one today) but to compare and declaring a winner on either side is just silly to me.

  • :-) that's why there was no winner.

  • good video. i'm off to research whether you can use more controllers when you tv-out for multi-player

  • what PC mame front end are you using?

  • The front end used in this video is MALA v1.0 RC7. You should check out this more recent video of a newer cabinet running MALA v1.04 but this time with moving video previews. Click on my name and/or search for a video titled:

"Arcade MAME front end: MALA and video snaps from Emumovies"

  • Cabinet: Gets broken into by kids and all the money is stolen.

y él no es poop!!! jajajajaj

  • Great Response.

I enyoyed this video and realized that both are great machines. I purchased the f200 w touchscreen.

  • I dont see how GP2X having alot of emulators and the mame cabinet having ALL emulators is a draw.

  • The gp2x is portable, tons cheaper to own and operate.

  • gp2x sucks ass, and can't even be bought in the shops

  • TheNumber4q

the gp2x can be bought in the shops

  • Which shop

  • just to name 1 microcenter

  • don,t touch that going hurt

  • ROFL 6:08

  • This is the most retarded video I have ever seen and I own a gp2x this was really sad!

  • Umm... explain to me how batteries are somehow BETTER than a generator?

  • u can replace the controler for the gp2x now i think, take a look on their site

  • Hey where did you get the start up screen for MaLa?

  • startup screen for mala? do you mean the street fighter wallpaper or the mame logon on windows boot?

  • LOL, you can't put coins in your GP2X!XD

  • Ahaha, this video got more and more hilarious as time went on. And now I'm lusting again over getting a GP2X and building an arcade cabinet.

  • hahaha... give in to your lust! Play retro forever. Having a gp2x and a mame cabinet is a must. I've recently purchased someone's modified 4 player cabinet and will hopefully post a video soon... as soon as i get broadband back.

  • is that arcade Os ur using

  • No, it's MALA.

  • how does gp2x's multimedia abilities stack up against psp?

  • thank a lot man; great video!!!! I almost buy a gp2x but you make me change my mind. Now I'll back to build my mame.

  • Both are very nice! Anyone knows the name of the frontend on the MAME Cabinet? It looks awesome!

  • I believe it's MALA. it's like Maximus Arcade but freeware.

  • So, what song is used in this video?

  • "Living on Video" by Trans-X. A Canadian outfit?

  • the battery with the coin slot was funny but stupid

  • In my oppinion, this vs reviews is something like "my pennis is larger than yours"... it´s obvious that an arcade cabinet is much better for playing arcade games. Anyway, Gp2x is a wonderfull machine.

  • The whole point of the arcade cab was missed. You cant get the flavour of real arcade on a handheld. Standing up till your feet ache and knocking and kicking the machine to hell. Try that with a GP and see who wins. Id like to know the boot bios bit too! Built an arcade cab, but normally put it into hibernate, one press and a few seconds later mame is up.

  • Wow!! It can run pac-man? That is incredible.

  • Holmes.... that's not just any pac-man. It's the early prototype version where the ghosts were video taped sock puppets superimposed on a vector map through a green screen. Try emulating this setup on any other handheld.

  • Informative video, but that music is AWFUL. I had never even heard of the GP2X before.

  • you're prolly one of those "Dell computer" buyers lol

  • yea...that GPX2 thing really emulates the feel of an arcade (sarcasm)... who cares.

  • yeah it totally sucks ass, who wants to live in yesteryear

  • Dude! How'd you skip the BIOS? I mean I see it later but the initial boot image.......how'd you change that?!?
