i use guitar rig 3 fx -> metal -> 80s lead & tweaked the knobs of Master volume to 55%, gain to 35%, bass to 35%, mid to 55%, treble to 55% + studio reverb & select the neck pickups. and of course volume set for rhythm is lower than lead =)
honestly never tried with the alnico sets of the emg. this one is a ceramic pickup. so, usually alnico magnets giver warmer & smooth distortion, while ceramic gives brighter & more treble distortion. in music, i like to have both humbucker sound layered with single coil sound, so the sound spectrum is wider.
I'd say in noise cancelling, it is the same. since i used headphones to play & record, no hum is produced at all. for distortion, it's on the brighter & clearer side compared to humbucker. ah the battery? underneath that pick guard =)
when you say brighter and clearer is that a good thing? i mean i'd like to do switching between clean and distorted in songs and stuff but if the distortion can go as well as enter shikari and/or bless the fall i think they would be good for me.

When you changed your pups did you have to raise your volume and tone knob?

@encikafook would you say these emg's stand up to a humbucker on distortion if not how much worse are they to humbucker.?
Where do you put the battery for the pickups?
mac24666 2 years ago
also how good are they for metal or stuff like bless the fall, funeral for a friend etc?
mac24666 2 years ago
now im trying to get the metal sounds like as i lay dying, with a lot of mids. how good really depends on your tonal preference in my opinion.
