*rolls eyes* Spike obviously meant the other horse with his attack... its the actresses fault for not watching what went on behind her with the other horse... such things happen... has nothing to do with the horse *planning* or *wanting* to bite humans!
being around Thoroughbreds for 16 years i know that most of the time the grooms do not teach the horses at a young age that biting is not an acceptable behavior. This could be one cause seeing as they said he was an off the track thoroughbred. It is never okay to treat a horse, that bites, from your hand. I also noticed that another horse was close to him and he was probably about to reach back and bite at him telling him, "Not so close." but the girl happened to be in the way.
I noticed the horse in the stall next to him nosed his flank and maybe that is what triggered his reaction. I would recommend that he not be giving feed or treats by hand in the future though.
I agree with absinthe1faerie,he has probaly been slapped for it a few times, horses,if they know they are going to get slapped/punished,they take off.I wouldn't blame it on Spike or the people.May I ask,why are they in muddy pens and not in a stall or pasture?
Spike looks a bit food aggressive or doesn't like other horses being so close. He was fine until he saw how close the other horse was and didn't like it. Hehe the other horse looks clueless. ^^ It's a threat to the other horse. My horse did something similar. He was mad at me but bit the other unsuspecting horse. :P Hope her shoulder is ok.
No, I agree, he didn't spook. He knew what he was doing and as much as every horse, including Spike, deserves a second chance, I don't think he should be kept in an environment where he is going to harm people.
Spike bit her number one, due to being hand fed treats which she ran out of, then the horse came up beside him so he sent out a warning bite to protect his food or space (stall aggression, totally normal in some horses) which normally would have gone to the horse but the girl was closer.
Spike didn't "spook" Spike pinned his ears and knowingly tried to take a bite out of her. I'd say Spike was sent to auction for a reason. You can tell he's done it before because as soon as he was done biting, he took off -.. as he's probably been slapped for doing it many times.

Who knows about Spike, but these two chicks are definitely not horse people are they. Also, are they faking an accent?

I think the other horse spooked Spike. He probably didn't realize there was another horse so close and just lunged.
