  • LSD !!!

  • Stylistically way ahead of the game, heavy metal hairstyles in 1965.

  • Jos Brink!!

  • grandiose Pretty Things - das wars 1965

und Viv Prince mit Schlips outstandig

  • grandiose Pretty Things - das wars 1965

  • I love the Beatles, but in comparison to this raw stuff (that I knew nothing about back then), their music seems so polished and commercial. Wow!

  • I love the Beatles, but in comparison to this raw stuff (that I knew nothing about back then), it is so polished and commercial. Wow!

  • unfogetable viv prince all that pretty musicians

  • Blokker is a chain of department stores - so they must have sponsored it

  • Het begin heeft iets van Buurman & Buurman.....

  • under rated group in the USA. I loved their early punkish stuff when it came out. I can onlyrecall seeing them once on Shindig doing "Honey I Need". during the 60s, one sign you were "in" was you had a Pretty Things" album or three. I've got a double album of their best stuff. It stands the test of time.

  • The Dutch are about the most enthusiastic audience anywhere of the era except for the mania that was the beatles.

Hail the Pretty Things & thanks for the upload

  • @tatunkha Partly TRUE,but you should watch the welcome The Beatles received in '64. The whole of the Amsterdam channels were blocked when they were treated to a boatride. You can check that out here too I think.

  • Let The Kid's Dance.

  • 45 years later the kids in Holland still look and act like this!

  • never tire of seeing this, fantastic raw sound and the gorgeous Brian Pendleton to boot, ty from the besotted one x

  • LOVE this footage! : )

  • Great stuff! Love how Phil May always seemed at least a year ahead of everybody, hair-wise :D

  • The roadie would have no problem with that drumkit.

  • I was only 10 then but I liked their wild style and later broke my toy guitar trying to do Road Runner. I still love their early rough stuff.

  • Great rock band... the godfathers of rock 'n roll.

  • im a kid and i know exactly what you're talkin bout : )

  • .... With all that, they still belong in the Cleveland Hall of Fame for whatever it's worth. One of the tragically forgotten bands of their time...

  • Difference between these guys and the stones? Andrew Oldham helped the glimmer twins becmoe songwriters/hitmakers. . Too bad PHil May and DIck Taylor never developed into hitmakers.

  • they make the Stones look like choirboys!!!

  • Awesome!!! Like a beatdown! that's some statement.

  • HALLUCINATION TOTALE !

  • He might have said beat sound? great band! thank you for posting!

  • LET'S TAKE A THING :)!

  • Sounded like the announcer said Pretty Things are like a beatdown...crazy Dutch

  • is that what he said? it's so hard to tell. a pretty girl is like a melody, the Pretty Things are like a beatdown? maybe he meant downbeat? it has to have something to do with beat since it's being compared to melody. crazy Dutch.

  • Viv has always been a hero. If you buy a Pretties album, make it "Get the Picture". Raw, melodic, great guitar playing, rhythmical, great sound pictures. Excellent British R'n'B .

  • :-)) in the audience nearly only boys - tx long time ago

  • These rolls Viv Prince makes are just

    incredible,even with this sound quality,

    they sound awesome.

  • Dear knobe.. i think you will find that Kasabian may well have been influenced by The Pretty Things not the other way around as you stated, as Kasabian were not even an ich in their daddies pants when this was filmed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I luv this. Not only does it show a festival audience acting exactly like we all do right now, but it show's the Pretty Things, who are the 60's version of Kasabian, kicking it for real! I'm a roadrunner baby, oh yeah!

  • This one really buids up the expectation in the beginning...

  • Man...they were and, of course, still IS one amazing outfit. But I wish this recording could turn up in 100% excellent quality one day - what a show!! How many seconds before the bassist John stax went down on his knees, you say?

  • my main point is 獅子座 ㄑㄎ賖澬峩 ㄐ

  • I fucking love Viv Prince! Rock on!Going to watch these guys tomorrow!

  • Qui? Vous?

  • I was reading a passage in Hammer Of The Gods where one of Led Zep got deathly ill on the Greek isle of Rhodes. Phil May had a house there and saved the day. That sorta points out how successful the Pretty Things were. Like the Easybeats, it is criminal that they didnt have hardly any US exposure.

  • Red that book too, gives a nice impression of the rise of LZ and an inside view. I liked it a lot. Pretty things are still doing gigs btw.

  • These guys were SO ahead of their time. I remember seeing video besides this from a show in 1965. It ran about 1/2 hour long, they were long haired rebellious, cursing onstage, and for a finale, the guitarist and drummer trashed their stuff. remind you this was 1965, the year of The Beach Boys and The Beatles. These guys were punk before punk. Out of control stuff

  • They were the baddest on the block, even more so,that it's rumoured Jagger blackmailed the BBC's Ready Steady Go!

it's either them or us ,consequently The Pretty Things never got invited in that show, wich cost them some valuable exposure.

  • jagger, eat your heart out.I forgot how much i liked their songs.Classic! And nice to see some DutchTV.The fights i had as a 9 year old to let my hair grow....Wild things.

  • could not afford to buy many records( due to my age at the time), but I bought Honey I need and Don' t bring me down, and remember singing along to them, back in that wonderland that was the 1960s. Outstanding 60's aura.

  • You British Folks, consider yourselves lucky to have heard The Pretty Things regularly. The USA had virtually no exposure to this innovative group. England sent every other British invasion group our way except these guys. They should have found a way to get over here! How can anyone not like Don't Bring Me Down?

  • We brought over Jerry and the Pacemakers and Freddy and the Dreamers instead ..yucch...I don't think Ed Sullivan could have tolerated this band

  • 65 ! just before the musical revolution they were about to create ! what the hell happened to ekp34? those marvelous vids are gone and I am bummed!

  • i can't beleive they had no hits in the us

  • Sound Sucks...yeah,but listen to some of those Stones concerts of that time, not

    much better.

But nothing a little EQing can't solve now.

I hope somebody tries it with this footage,

    it surely deserves it |♫|☺

  • This Wooden shed just about didn'get

    destroyed....unlike the Kurhaus in

The Hague [Holland} a few months earlier

    with the Stones.GREAT vibe.♫

I watched it live on television then.☺

  • raving coolsters, thanks for posting it!

  • You want young, loud and snotty? This is it!

  • ...some damn long hair for 1965 !

  • Honey I NEED the Pretty Things!

  • Punk...before there was punk.

  • @saved1 no! just raw and simple rythm and blues

  • Just fabulous!! The crowd obviously was diggin' it too!! Viv with a suit AND TIE?? C'mon--that's just too much...as was the crowd's frenzied state at times--such a FEEL for the music, perhaps? Or...:)Incredible!!

  • wououuuu

  • this is great,thanks¡¡

  • Thank you

  • Viv is drum's God!! the Keith Moon's inspiration. thank you for this great vid!!

  • anyone that can access the pretty things b.b.c. session which features five cuts on

which viv is playing will be able to get an even better idea of this man's ability and creativity.Really unique especially considering what other drummers were doing in 1965. GREAT!!!

  • Can't agree more, that disc is ace. - Viv, what a wildman; hasn't got nearly the credit he deserves.

  • Memories...

  • Thanks for posting this, it's a great clip and I haven't seen it for a little while, it's just so exciting to watch it again and has the added bonus of plenty of footage of Brian Pendleton for me to feast my eyes on....must drag myself away or I'll be late for work!!!!

  • viv prince is more better than skip alan,it was a very strange person...is very rare to see viv play with the pretties...bye to everyone

  • That's so amazing about The Pretties,

    they knew how to find

    just the right replacement,

If you see those other clips, you'll

    see that Alen inherrited Viv's

    place rightfully.

    You're right though....Viv's a legend.

  • Saw the Pretty Things at the 100 Club last week, their tribute to Bo Diddley. Jimmy Page was ib the audience. Did you ever notice how much Ian Gillan ripped off Phil May? And lets not forget that Dick Taylor was in the first line-up of the Stones. He's still the best guitarist they ever had (apart from Page of course - ha! The kids won't know what the hell I'm talking about...)

  • Did you see Pretties in a Diddley tribute? What a hell, i'm a kid but i'd LIKE to be there!

  • @ElectricLabel LOL. I am pretty young, too young to actively remember, but I am a rock history geek...LOL! Pagey was better in a way, but Dick Taylor was more distinct, as a pretty that is. Pagey was, IMHO, at his best as a Yardbird.

  • One of the most underrated bands ever. These guys made the Stones look clean cut.

  • thanx! one of the most fun bands, true rockers, and they

went thru all the phases along with Beatles, Stones; just as

    good, imb...

  • That is long hair for 65!

  • The speaker on the begin was that Jos Brink?

  • Great, great band. Love May's voice and Taylor's guitar sound!

  • you gotta love early pretty things.my old neighbour used to go out with the singer back in the 60's and she said they were perfect gents.

  • sorry. i miswrote. what i meant to say was that they, on the first wave, may have been good but they weren't as great as ...let's say ...the kinks, the zombies, and, of course, the beatles

  • it's...it's...well it's legendary...

  • "mick jagger has this guy beat by miles" I like Phil's singing better than Mick's, probably partly because Mick's American accent tends to sound fake (I'm American).

  • you're right about mick ... i always thought it was kind of funny listening to him not only take on an american accent, but also a southern black/blues accent - i'm american, too.

  • Love this, Taylor in shades, MOD at it's best RAW & GREAT, this is real!!!!

  • im an avid fan of a lot of bands that came with first wave - this is not one of those bands. this may have some sort of historical/musical value, but this particular number was performed terribly.

  • dybbuk4640.

The quality is only the mix, nothing to do with the quality of their perfomance. I can't hear no bum notes in there. Just the mix, which may only even be the fault of the camera recording.

  • What do you mean they didn't come with the first wave? The Pretty Things were contemporaries of the Rolling Stones and were cutting records before The Who.

  • viv prince wow

  • wooooha! excellent

  • they are like the destroyer version of the stones

  • Hey do you know the lead singers name a mate of mine many years ago went of to join a band in england called the pretty things his name was criss grey i think he was with them for a while

  • Phil May is the singer.

  • Thanks !

  • Dick Taylor came from Dartford, like Jagger and Richards. He, too, wanted to play lead guitar. That's why he left the Stones, having been "relegated" to bass.

  • great my new fav band the who stones and pretty things forever

  • yes it is the original Stones guitarist, Dick Taylor (original in that he was in an early incarnation of the stones with Jones, Richard, and Jagger.

  • Brilliance...it's a pitty though that Brian Pendleton's amp problem never got solved .

  • Sorry...only with Honey I Need

  • You're right there ,it might've

    got lost in the mix.

    It does'nt antimatter though.

  • Viv is the coolest and also the biggest influence on a young Keith Moon. The Prettys are at their smokenest best here.

  • yes

    its the same dick taylor

    +

  • They look pretty wild for that time. Some of those guys from the audience look quite dangerous too. It is clear though where Jim Morrison got his act from. Stupid question maybe, but is that the same Dick Taylor that was the original bassplayer of the Rolling Stones?

  • This is too good.

  • this is an example of how clinical and organised the stones and the beatles were

these were a fucking great band but took more drugs than the aforementioned and as you can see from all the fucking about prior to getting into the first number it just shows you how fickle audiences were too,,

great band these guys,,, raw /dangerous ,, chaotic

  • jeeezus, fokking Jos Brink!!!

  • A rare opportunity to see the might Viv Prince in stupendous form rattling those traps! Go Viv!

  • how does this suck!? this is amazing! you have just never seen real talent.

  • Sorry.., thissucks ,funny momento for those involved though

  • and dis was 4 yers before jim morrison ...

  • singer was great-(big bum, mind)great tunes, super...my fave album sf sorrow blah blah blah

  • You're funny Simon (I mean it)

Anyway, that's what white trousers do to ya

  • The electricity radiates from this performance, I can't stop seeing it .T A N X !

  • Unfortunately I didn't catch on to these guys until Savage Eye was released in the mid 70's but have since scooped up as much of thier stuff as possible...Great Band The Pretty Things! S F Sorrow is still a fav!

  • no way this is 1965

  • I absolutely adore this video! Thank you for posting 99th!

  • Eat Your Heart's Out.... Stones!!!

    Too Cool.

  • alright! the original headbangers!

  • Fantastic!

  • No Phil I could never bring you down , We need you to much . d;-j

  • R.I.P. The introducer from this great show ,Jos Brink, He died 17 aug.'07 . Indeed Jos ,A pretty girl is like a melody,The Pretty Things are a B.I.G. sound . peace.

  • Jos Brink is ok in my little red book, when this transmitted to my little shite little tv , my father was breathing and cursing in my neck , he could'nt even stand Tom Dooley from The Kingstone trio , anyway pop , you made the memory that more intense .bless your lost soul .

  • OOOOOOOOOOOHH YOU PRETTY THINGS ,i saw this in '66 f.ckin' unbelieveble and sooooo loveble

  • The Pretty Things are my favourite band with The Who and The Rolling Stones

  • That clip is hip.

  • Absolutely mind-bogglingly fantastic! What an audience!

  • hope they are comin' too sweden sometime:

  • I can't see psychedelic here but R'n'B and garage for me are the same fucking great shit! Thanks for comment and enjoy it.
