Yuja Wang - China Doll with Adamantine Fingers, not to mention flawless musical memory and a fire to turn those Steinway's into molten puddles of mush. My new favorite musician.
Where can I learn how to play this version of Carmen fantasie? Or the horowitz version? If anyone knows any sites or sheet music I would be happy. Thanks.
I want yuja wang to know that she's my inspiration, she's the reason i started piano lessons in the first place (:: AND she's my favourite pianist of all. I don't know if she's the most talented and i really dont care, i love the way she plays! She is a motivation for me to keep playing, i wish i could play like her someday, or even somewhat close to her.. It's a big goal but it keeps me going (:
I really love this classical piece by Yuja. Being a new YouTube viewer, I am finding video's like this amazing - and so different from some of the previous, mundane stuff I have managed to find on the internet. Filming in the practice room was a great idea and show's off Yuja's talents even more than within a concert setting; and allows the viewer to study and enjoy both the music and her playing even more. Love the camera work and the close up view of the keyboard.
@bencooper123456 She has already made her debut with the LSO! She's a full fledged international soloist! Look her up! Yuja Wang also has a twitter account if you want to follow her!
WOW Yuja Wang is defintely the best woman pianist. :D i love her. haha and she should marry yundi li.. but if that doesnt work out.. :) illll marry her! :D
@Kadadj you don't know what you are talking about, of course the songs are completely different, but, if you know a little bit about music, you should notice how the tones and the rhythms are very similar. it might sound confusing if the only versions of OWA you have ever heard are those in advent children or any other that are played by orchestras if you want to do a real comparison check out the final fantasy 7 piano collection version.
@Kazoue First of, yes I know what i am saying, check my channel out, I obviously know a bit musical theory. Secondly, I have learnt songs and melodies I listened to several years ago by just playing stuff that sounded familiar, so I know when something sounds like something else. I checked out the piano collections. Although fucking awesome, I do not think of this when i hear it, nor the opposite. And thats that ^^
@Kadadj I dont want to attack your musical knowledge because I know you know about music but I strongly disagree about you saying that this has nothing to do with owa, How can you even say that? listen and think about how you feel hearing this song. The minor chords used make this song sound stressful. it's the same in owa. just take the first chord of owa for instance. both of them make you feel the same way. And if it's not feelings, what is the point of music?
@XenoPredator Sorry, but this is probably the no.1 pianist in the world. The fact that she has such a superb technique doesn´t mean she is a robot. Listen to some compositions (Schubert, Brahms, etc.) - if you realy
understood piano you would have to agree with me.
I haven't the slightest idea why I like this one over Horowitz's version. She is precise, methodical, and passionate. So is Horowitz. There is a very slight & minute difference in nuances and tempo at certain places. I can't explain it. My ears just want to hear this one, even though playing in a small room makes the sound bounce and terrible in general. Can someone explain it to me? I just wish I heard this in a concert hall. I will wait til she comes to our town to play.
@singlefather01 The reason you prefer her version over Horowitz's is because you are a single father and because Yuja has tits. She also happens to be pretty attractive. Congratulations! You're a man!
Why don't some of you start learning how to speak and WRITE proper ENGLISH!!!

@Mrphilharmonic Consider for a second that some of those people you're berating might not be native English speakers. It's true that it's sometimes hard to tell the difference. But you should always consider the possibility.
That said, between your penchant for superfluous punctuation and your inexplicable hyphenation of 'uneducated', as well as your overuse of all caps in lieu of italics, your English writing is not exactly 'proper', either.
@ProgHead777 Yes! You're absolutely right. I was wrong. Sorry. I DO apologize.

No, I'm 'cool' with what you say, but there was some irony there too. Ok?
I saw Yuja Wang live in 'Philly' and she was just incredible. An 'old' soul in a young body touched with genius. Now all she has to do is CONTRIBUTE a work (or arrangement/variation) of her own (all Horowitz/Volodos) and she will be completely a total master of the musical genre as well as the piano.
I'm not a big fan of Yuja, but I agree with your point. Everyone playing the Horowitz and Volodos transcriptions is getting old. No offense to Horowitz or Volodos, but their pieces weren't designed for mass consumption by pianists/audiences. They were supposed to be a special treat for their audiences only. It's happening too often now. I'd rather see people play Hamelin Etudes. Those pieces are interesting. Nobody has the guts to do it other than Hamelin though.
This compares well with Horowitz's play of Carmen. Granted, Horowitz deserves praising as a symbol of perfection. Whether or not anyone in reality can ever achieve perfection in anything, arguably the "practicing" Yuja in this video proves not only just as dynamic musically, but more at ease especially in those parts where technical demands arise. (Watch if Horowitz appears tense throughout much of his play). Therefore, shall we say, Yuja's performance here nears perfection.
