@rockdoesntdie yeah same man this is so helpful... randomness here but you should get a boss rc3 loop station... so cool, and its helps my improv heaps... seacow OUT>
That's nothing, I've started playing guitar about 5 years ago now. my uncle was teaching me for about a year then he moved away, so I started to try and teach myself, consequently learning bad habits it seems. after just finding this video now, it seems like i'm starting at the beginning again. After getting frustrated enough with my poor skills, i found this video. now i even ordered the dvd advertised in the info. Thanks man, this video helped me alot already!
picking isnt that. i love this guy but the movement is in the fingers , you should be picking with your thumb going down and index up..thats how yngwie picks and how eric johnson picks...i have been a student of e j belive me
you want to strum with the arm.... but with picking, use the hand only, so place your wrist on the guitar and imagine your arm is attached to the guitar so you can't move it.
I just started learning guitar 3 days ago. I'm reading this FastTrack Guitar book. It didn't mention picking so I've just been downpicking everything. lol. Tomorrow, I'll try alternate picking using this technique. Thanks.
His teaching approach was sincere and very informational. I felt like he was talking to me directly as if I was sitting in the room with him. Great video !!!!!
hahahah. everythings ups and down. lol dude its just like life.... life is like alternate picking its, down and up down and up down and up down and up down and up down and up down and up down and up.XD
my guitar teacher tells me to pick with my arm and to keep my wrist straight. if you do it right, its really comfortable. it shows that it doesnt matter what method you use as long as you practice it and get good at it. in addition, my guitar teacher can shred as clean and accurate as anyone ive ever seen.
where do u place ur right hand? because im having trouble where because if i put it in mid air, its really uncomfortable and if i put it down, it will mute the strings.
i've been angling it for a while now, something i figured out myself to make it easier. I thought it was "cheating" but i guess it's ok :D only problem is my pick is wearing out XD
awesome vid 11 mins of my life used very well cuz this really helped me with my alternate picking now im able to pick at awesome speeds and thats helping me alot when im writing my own intros and stuff :D
@mau1794 cheap guitars does not necessarily mean there harder to play. cheaper guitars might not have the same sound qualities as a more expensive guitars or they they might not stay in tune so great. for example.... i have an old fender mexi strat that i paid 200 for and i play just as good as my $1400 les paul studio. but NOTHING can match the tones and sounds i get from my gibson.
that with that angel of the pick was what caused my problems ! thank you very much! :D at last i can reach the speed to play some solos from slipknot :DD
I´ve been playing rythm guitar for 40 years and have finally got around to learning lead & soloing (mainly Blues) for the past year. These 10 mins have have been soooo helpful. Never realized just how important it is to hold the plectrum when soling. Thanks a million!
THis guy is damn great! I dont even know the way i pick , and he just tell it out , i was stunned when i saw me doing the same way all the time as what he says! He really invetigate guitar skills! Thumbs up!
Hi David, I hope you read this and give me a reply, but I live in Europe and it looks like this DVD is just the thing I am looking for. Does your website also ship packages to Europe and so ?
Thanks in advance so much, and ofcourse thanks for all the other lessons!
Once again, EXCELLENT video. I never realize you could angle it to fix hanging up! I never noticed it much before either! All these exercises really help. I recommend everyone on here to check out all their other exercise videos. They're all amazing.
I started angling by mistake when I began getting frustrated trying to do the chugga-chuggas for Master of Puppets. Thanks for the lesson, so much help.
Wow a guitar teacher that is actually clear about what he is saying. I was so sick of "teachers" vaguely telling me something and giving examples at terrible angles where i'm likely to learn it a whole new wrong way all over again.
Has anyone else noticed that when he turns the pick at an angle, he does it by bending his thumb joint in and sort of curling it back towards himself? I do the opposite, where I curl my thumb joint outward curling it away from myself. Anybody else do it like I do?
@andrewpmast Yeah, i think he has a double jointed thumb, if you don't (like me) jus angle the pick down instead of up, i don't think it will make any difference.
Actually I think it would be much better advise to instruct students to practice inner picking and outer picking while watching TV, NOT tremolo picking on one string. The problem with guitarists isn't being able to pick fast on one string but pick just as fast and clean while skipping from string to string. So instead practice EAEAEA, down up down up down up. And then AEAEAE, down up down up down up.
great lesson dave, helped me out allot cause I've been learning more advanced metal guitar stuff like Six from All that remains and the odd picking pattern often made me slip on the rythim I used to tilt the pick down but I found your technique to tilt the pick upward made my playing more fluent
very useful. thanx
