the movie is mostly set in biblical times...in order to understand the humor you must understand biblical stories...eg Sodom and Gomorrah(dirty cities), Cain and Abel. Apart from normal circumcision It was a custom of the jews to cut the foreskins of their dead enemies...human sacrifice was prevalent in those areas(except the jews)...people allowed strangers to sleep with their daughters...

This movie looks pretty funny from the previews...also glad to see a "School of Rock 2" is in the works. But what I REALLY want to see Jack Black do is a bio-pic of LOWELL GEORGE! Lowell was a true musical genius, and he and his band LITTLE FEAT have been way overlooked.

Also, it would be the role of a lifetime for Jack Black. Lowell George had a wonderful sense of humor, and JB could play him and also get in some REAL acting at the same time. Don't wait too much longer, JB......

cant believe the hyhpe for this movie..i saw this last week and it isnt as funny as the comments in this thread suggests...its funny..but it aint hilarious or anything outrageous... just a light hearted movie with the odd one liners..its almost as if the writers tried too hard to make it funny..kind of a holy grail, naked gun, with arrested devel/jack black thrown in type spoof mix...i was yawning in parts..i think i counted 3 parts that really made me laugh..the rest was very dry and low key

You should form your own opinion, I agree with you on that. But I hope you have enough intelligence to mindfully do so. The problem is these movies are teaching kids some bad stuff. I wouldn't bring a kid to see a movie with people acting gay in it, or a movie with a charactor who says he cut his nuts off, or a movie that makes kids feel they need to have sex as soon as they can or they WILL be an inconfident "loser". There are too many unplanned pregnancies as it is.

I saw this movie, it was lousy as are most newer comedies. The plot jumped around and was very unhistorically accurate given what is believed to have existed and happened at that time. The main characters were stupid. The younger one was a woosey boy, the fatter one was demented... I feel dumber having watched this. I will admit I found some parts funny, stupid but funny

Between 1 and 10, I give it a 2.

My advice to everyone, if you want comedy, see something at least 15 years old.
