it's not near an exact replica. the real special forces shovel is called an entrenching tool or e-tool for short. the shovel head folds down on the handle and it has a serrated portion.

I don't think you realize that during the second world war, Shovels were one of the most common melee combat weapons. German soldiers even ditched their own shovels for the Soviet ones.
