Yeah, to an extent.

When it's not really bothering me there's an element of choice. Like.. you can't avoid a tic, but you can control how you tic, to a certain extent.

If you're really worked up you won't be able to control it though, it all depends on the severity.

I just used that as a crude example, I couldn't have easily said something like "If I see an overweight person.. I get the urge to bluirt out that they're fat"

i have a beatbox tic :) you are the only touretter that i know apart from me that has a beatbox tic, i also have facial, shoulder and head tics and if someone touches me i have to count to 10 and then touch my nose

I know the exact feeling of it being like an itch, i have a thing where i need to move the top of my head and i have to do it atleast 10 times a minute and sometimes i have to do it in a pattern for some reason. Also, here is a random sentence to enjoy: George would like Mary to sniff Andrew's hairy dogs mother's in-bred kangaroo's left ear lobe whilst force-feeding himself partially consumed horse dung.

I disguise it by just blinking and clenching my fists and stuff. I naturally beatbox too it just turned into a tic later on so that's a good way of getting it out! Thanks for the support.

how long have you had tourettes and has it gotten worse or better with age....my 5 year old has had tics since he was 1 and it's getting worse all the time yet the doctors keep saying it should get better with age...

Tourettes is something you're born with, although the symptoms do vary with age and circumstance. With me it got worse in my mid-teen years, but I suppose it's different for everyone. I was told that as I get older it should get better, as most people's do, but it's not a definite thing. I hope everything goes well for him and he has an easy life with it :) Thanks for the support!

Yeah it is Neurological, and it seems that it can be passed down through generations.. Although I don't think there's a certain decision as to whether that's true or not! Feel free to ask as much as you like I don't mind at all, thanks for showing interest and support!
