Been fascinated with towns like these. Since I grew up in a town not unlike this in east oregon. I live in beautiful Sitka now, but its not home. Videos like these help me out. I felt at home or a moment. Your time was well spent taking photos!
I lived in the big glassed-in A frame house that overlooked the Salt River, built by Larry Jensen. We bought it from the Millers in '88, and lived there till '04. My son was Brandon Hawkins. Love your video!
i was born and raised in Afton, but now i live in pocatello. i still go back every year for the star valley invitational with highland high school although, this past one was quite unfortunate for the braves
My friends Randy and Lonne Iott lived in the "cool house" at 4:00, around 1978-1980. It was a cool place. I lived across the street and to the south with Doc Ewing.
@jrparke2001 ...We actually built one of our houses (my husband and I) like the cool house...made a loft upstairs with bedroom, bathroom that was open, no doors, and then had some built in in the bedrooms. Seriously, if I had to live in Afton again, wouldn't be so bad if I could live in that house.
@marp45lisa ...thanks. It was fun to do. Wish I had taken more time to get more photos of areas, didn't really do it with the intention of doing a great job, we were seriously bored so this was something to do. I think I will do one for the fair time this summer...my boys look forward to going every year, they think a good old country fair is the best.
my mom grew up in afton. her family still lives there. the "ford dealer" is my grandpa, he still owns it. if you look at 4:56 thats my grandparents shed and their horse Chance, but he died of old age. he was a good old horse.when i showed this to my mom she said that she remembers the "smoker trees".I LOVE AFTON!!
It was there for 16 years and then my dads construction company took off so they changed it into a shop for all the equipment. 16 years is actually a long time in Afton! It actually did well but required my family to work all summer when others got to enjoy the summer, so it was best to be turned into something so we could have a life!
@actrain1 I do remember now the other drive-inn...I didn't ever go there however and it didn't last very long if I remember right. I guess there just wasn't room for 2 drive-inns...and quite honestly I am surprised the town could support even one.
the house that was being build was my parents, my step dad got hurt in 2000 and sold it to someone else . I hated that place for fun we remodel that house lol
@sweethomeblonde The mystery is solved! SEriously, it was the topic of conversation on every walk home from school...a couple of mysterious "rumors" went around and all. Whats the last name if I may ask? And remodel for "fun?" Sounds like my dad!
I'm thinking Shantell J? I moved the same year you did. Wow jumping off the bridge into the salt river, swimming and eating ice cream, bowling, sneaking into the alley of the movie theater to watch the same movie 2 times in a row, lunch time hotdogs at Maverick, slurpies from 7 11, red baron (one of those slushy ice cream things), ice skating for hours next to the 4-H building, laffy taffys at the school store every morn, tp ing (with forks) and the orig pumpkin smashing!
lol... lived here for 19 years... still havnt graduate... lol good ole sv... lol do you remember Clint Jasperson... or the bus driver Bryce Jasperson... lol ya... my grand pappies... but anyway... very nice job with the pics... hehe!!!
Great Video, I also lived in Afton from early 70's graduated in 82'. I remember the school store! my parents built a racketball club there. I love that place, thanks for the video.
Lived in Star Valley from 1970 to 1982...Graduated in 82, got the heck out of there as fast as I could...Though your video really makes me reminiscent. Thanks for the memories!
Haven't noticed the pool though but will look during the next trip. I loved the fair in it's old location...all the cotton candy I got all year was from that place and I enjoyed living a block away!
Someone removed some of the letters on the pool building so it read "pubic wimin" and it remained so for years!! They also tore down the place where the rodeo was held they had the worlds best burgers there!!
