Mr. Jodorowsky is absolutely right. Violence is much needed in mainstream cinema. Not the stupid, popcorn violence, but the one with the message, with power to shock @ disturb the viewer. LONG LIVE JODO!
I love this video. The weak people that he talks about think they are genius's in thinking that all of the problems in the world would stop when violence stops, that everyone's problems would go away if they "ignored" their violent emotions. Tell that to Vietnam war vets, world war II vets, Iraq war vets, Dessert storm vets. Theyre the only ones who know the solution to the problem between life and death.
"Violence you will find here, in your world, in your local area... Since I came into this world, there has been nothing but wars, wars, wars. The violence has never stopped in my life. If I want to show the sublime, if I want to show beautiful, mystical things, I have to show violence. I never show violence as pleasure, but like an art - like Picasso did with Guerníca." -Alejandro Jodorowsky
Jodorosky was abused quite extensively as a child, so he knows violence. He was conceived in violence, since his father raped his mother. He's talking about violence in art, which is trivialized by action films, not films that use violence in an artistic manner.
@Swordplay100 you are a fucking idiot Jodorowsky is talking about stupid motherfuckers like you who bury their heads in the sand and ignore the world around them. It is only when you stare the beast in the eyes that you can defeat it.
He's right, you know. We're a violent species. It's perfectly natural to want blood. Actually kind of refreshing to hear someone come right out and say it the way he does. :)
There are in everywere violence, but we dont see it... and then we forgett it and it is like it doesnt exist. He shows to remember and to some people to teach something hide, something not truth (but it is). The recient movie from Jodorowsky called violence in the desert, were 150 people died some days ago by a bombcar, in afganisthan it was i think? the irony is violence too.
I love this man's views on cinema/poetry/art/violence! Fuckin GENIUS! I agree with him 100% I run into people all the time who say, "Ohh I can't watch those surreal fucked up movies you have man that shit is too fucked up for me!" Why does it scare them? Because they are not used to seeing that type of shit on screen but they don't have a problem playing fuckin Call Of Duty shooting Nazi Zombies in the head now do they?
What he is trying to say, is that today in this world there is a lot of violence that we dont want to see, we ignore the violence. But it exists, and the only way to finish with violence is to acept there is violence, not blinding eyes.
thefonkykid is a fool. Phonologie's interpretation is valid. But I also feel he's commenting on how much violence exists in the WORLD, yet how ridiculous people are to accuse HIM of being too violent.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
somebody's got some issues lol.
He should live in the hood if he likes the violent nature of mankind so much. Why is he still lingering around his luxurious condominiums and mansions?
By the way Jodorowsky comes from the poorest towns in Chile, then he live in Mexico in one of the most violent areas, so shut up if you don't shit about him!
He's still a starving artist, he doesn't know luxurious condominiums and mansions, he live in a very small apartment with his wife and cats, he's a brilliant artist but a poor one.
@thefonkykid Yeah its really a shame. In Norway the government spend hundreds of millions NOK to subsidize Artists that conforms to the regulations, and making poor quality hollywood wannabe movies when instead it could use the money on real artists like Jodorowsky. Though Ideally though I wish some successful business boss would support him. In medieval Europe powerfull people surrounded themself with artists and poets, its too bad that its gone in the modern economy structure.
@thefonkykid Jodo a poor Artist? are you out of your fucking poor cliche mind? This whole idea that jodo is a starving man is such a stereotype idea, he lives beyond most people standards, huge, huge revenue from publishing, conferences, personal engagements, movies, comics, tarot session for the privileged and wealthy. So please stop writing non sense about this amazing guy, no doubt. Picasso is that one that created this non sense idea in peoples mind that "Most" artists are starving!!!!

what a fool, no one "likes violence"
people "like" ice cream
they can give it, receive it, look at it, think about it, etc. and not stop liking it
to have a fascination w/violence means you like it sometimes and don't other times which is (using his broken english): "de weak"
love his films but what an imbecil
