  • my sis met tower of power in school!!!!

  • this is awesome!!!!! i think the band fucked up at the end though when dennis tried leading them back in from the solo.

  • No one else could possibly instantly fill in for Garibaldi like Dennis.. Insane....

  • Fucking solid as fuck, Chambers is a man amongst men in the drumming dept. Only Carter Beauford can impress like he can

  • Hahaha @ 5:21 the solo was done. I guess they were in awe!

  • 1:41 ORGASM

  • Damn...worlds collide. I always saw David and Dennis as opposite sides of the funk spectrum. David has always been known for his signature grace notes and displacements, while Dennis is more bottom heavy and hard-hitting (you can see that in this clip--he crashes on the one a lot more than David would). Both guys are masters that changed the game. Thanks for uploading this clip!

  • This drum solo is...GOLD. Awesome musicians!

  • Geez....Dennis changed his hi-hat dynamics at 3:57...unbelievable.

  • what song is this?

  • I'm not a drummer..but notice that his left and right are interchangeable...

  • I love "The machine gun" Chambers. I saw him for the first time in Copenhagen back in 87' with John Scofield. I was there because Crusaders was going to play after Scofield, but i was so amased of Chambers drumming that i just went home, without seeing Crusaders. The monday after, i bought the album "Blue matter. Check that record out if want to hear Chambers playin' the shit out of the great tunes featured on that album.

  • For all those who think the keyboard player was the only one to notice the solo was done...watch the bass player's eye contact, and his fingers.

  • the name of the song???

  • Hell Yes...Denn...Dude!

  • 4:00 shit just got real funky! :)

  • I think it's always great to see that people like dennis chambers are still mortal like at 3:58. it always motivates me to practice even more and makes me believe that with enough practice and commitment you can still become a drummer as great as dennis

  • hehe

  • Dennis the Groovemeister!

  • Anyone can tell me what song is played when Denis speaks?

  • Ummm is it just me or in every video of a great drum solo like this, is every other musician on stage always really bad??

  • @thedarthmonkeyman it's you. all the musicians on that stage are freakin geniuses.

  • @thedarthmonkeyman loll its most definitely just you

  • @drum6banger Haha alright. I suppose it wouldn't be my style of music so i wouldn't know anyway :)

  • As a trumpet player and a drummer, the amount of talent in this video really shows to me.

  • Dennis is really awesome and spontaneous! Dave is much more of a methodical and formal type of player but really innovative in is on own way. Oakland stroke!

  • Hello. Somebody can say to me what is the name of the piece? Thanks

  • @cobham07 Knock yourself out

  • @thelbronius Thank you ;-)

  • Farout, can someone give me the name of this song please!

  • thats soooooo funky-tac,,,,,,,,ka,tac-tac-tac-good!!!

  • Just about the only guy that could sub for Garibaldi and get away with it.

  • Dennis is funky !

  • @dwayne1068 Yes he is!!!

  • that's my father

  • Dennis is a great drummer and he is doing a fine job filling in for david. But i have to say that he is hitting those drums too hard..

  • @delitemyheart it's alright man he has to be who he is ........

  • @ivanbagual yeah i know its allright cause EVERYONE has to be whom they are..not only dennis!

  • Comment removed

  • HEY @ivanbagual...whats wrong??? Why are you so angry with me?????

  • @delitemyheart OH GUY I'M NOT ANGRY I JUST UNDERSTOOD YOU ... TAKE IT EASY

  • Love it

  • Love it!

  • Comment removed

  • i love the part during the organ solo where dennis 16ths on the ride and you can see the bone player looking over and smiling. just absolutely killin....

  • everyone should have a fair say, so the other musicians were allowing Dennis his due...no disrespects..I'd rather that than say they come back in at 4:15 when you were toying with the idea.

  • Denis is a great drummer but i have to admit that the pressure must 've been awsome to replace Garibaldi

  • @marclois Dennis is NEVER under pressure. He's THAT good.

  • That was EXTREMELY fun! Thanks boys!

  • Thats the funkiest drumming ive ever heard.

  • Dennis is Awesome but Not As Funky as Dave

But Ha He Leads them back in 3 times and they Miss it hahahahahahahaha

  • Dennis is Awesome but Not As Funky as Dave

  • I'll bet they were the best band to play at that high school that day!

  • That's the way (Sweet)!!!

     Musiq is the Message.

  • I liked so much the riding at 1:42. Very cool.

  • is there a bootleg or album from this concert or any other concert with dennis playing??

  • fill @ 2:28 gave me friggin goosebumps cuz it so grooves the fuck out of garibaldi

  • @OogaB0oga Uhhhh no. Garibaldi wins

  • @OogaB0oga is not about competition music

  • What is this song called?

  • @DenlingerFamily Tune is called "Knock Yourself Out". Check out the version on Live in Living Color, an INSANE Lenny Picket solo that will make your head spin.

  • @DenlingerFamily

    Knock Yourself Out!

  • Comment removed

  • Nobody funks wit TOP!!!

  • Johnny guitar Watson in the background in the beginning...Bow wow!

  • even the arm and hammer dance is hard 2 feel haha

  • Two words, BAD ASS!

  • nice

  • If you don't like Dennis Chambers I would love to hear you play because this guy sounds incredible I'm sorry If I were david I don't think I would call Dennis to sub for me shit.

  • Dennis takes that groove to a way higher level you are something else Mr Chambers wow.

  • at 5:17 he's looking at the horn players, giving them an obvious count down out of his solo and they just stare at him. Then a light bulb goes off and they come in a few measures later...

  • @jdrum12 Rocco's looking away the rest of the solo...you see his head snap over when Dennis is finishing his solo, then his gaze turns back to his bass neck. Rocco is such a baddass and these two make one of the most kick ASS rhythm sections I have ever seen.

  • Gotta love these "critics" that say "I'm not too fond of this guy or that guy".. Dennis is a powerful, funky mother fucker - end of story.

  • he's a legend

  • Did sound for a band he was in, Mike Stirn and Bob Berg. The guy does some incredible unique stuff.

  • I'm not too fond of Dennis Chambers, Mr. I DUN LIEK DRUM NOTATION ITZ SHTOOPID.

  • @theGHPwner by that logic, buddy rich sucks too right? and art blakey?

  • @flipadiddle When did I ever say in that comment that he sucked? I have my opinion, you can have yours.

  • @theGHPwner i never said anything about my opinion. im just saying that if you decide to dislike all drummers who are not strong readers (or not readers at all), you must thereby then dislike art blakey and buddy rich too. is that correct?

  • @flipadiddle You appear to be missing the point. I dislike the fact that he doesn't like notation, not the drummer himself. I appreciate what he did in Santana, and all of the side projects. That's fine. I like Buddy Rich too, he's our roots. I just mean that I don't like the fact that he doesn't like notation.

  • Dennis Chambers is the King.

  • WTF YAW SMOKING LOL! David Garibaldi would tell you himself that D. C. would shit on him and then Tony R jr. would shit on him some more.

  • @overtime2005 tony royster has great technique but the stuff that he plays gets boring after like 5 minutes... he doesn't groove as good as garibaldi and chambers do... and apart from that... comparing T R Jr. and those legends here is like comparing them to george kollias... TR JR is a hip hop drummer... it pretty much has nothing to do with funk except from it's roots

  • @c0d3x001 what planet did you come from? He's not just a Hip Hop Drummer he Plays Jazz fusion R&B Gospel and and any other music he decides he wants to play . LOL

  • OMG What is this song called.

  • They need a plain white T-shirt with a black and white picture of this guy on it! I'd rock the shit outta that shirt

  • Great Stuff!!! Hey, who has bigger tit's-Dennis or Doc?

  • look at hi just relaxin on those 16's with his right hand on the ride, like is nothing!!

  • Dennis is a great player but he's no David Garibaldi.

  • Dennis is a fucking drumbeast!

  • Dennis Chambers SLAYS Tower of Power IS RIGHT!!!

  • The title of this should be changed to "Dennis Chambers SLAYS Tower of Power"

  • Chambers is a big get for a fill in...jesus christ, I mean it's as good as it gets, he's a heavy hitter, just look at that ride work.

  • pampinjon? Dennis 2 repititious? DUH, he's supposed 2 be! There aint one T.O.P. song that aint built around Dave's well thought out/well rehearsed/very repetitious/perfectly charted out patterns, & its still that way, & yes, still Funky as hell! Dave is a master, no doubt, but so is Dennis! 2 compare them creatively, is pointless, cause they're both equally creative in 2 completely different ways, but could you see Dave subbing 4 Dennis w/ John McLaughlin or Mike Stern?? It is what it is..

  • Man this is a milestone! I love Dave Garibaldi with this band...But its amazing how DC can get in and not miss a beat! I'd like to hear him play What is Hip?!

  • HA! How do they miss the EXTREMELY obvious "I'm done with my little solo now, so you guys come back in" fill at 5:20?

  • @whiskeyandfeet I think the were all dumbfounded at what they had just witnessed, I know I was. Maybe they didn't want it to end.

  • @whiskeyandfeet Everybody missed it except Rocco and the keyboard player. I am in awe, that cymbal fil he did at 4:57 was just amazing!! Rocco's back there looking at Dennis in admiration!

  • @whiskeyandfeet Check it out and notice how Rocco's head snaps over when Dennis plays that part...he knew what was going on!

  • @whiskeyandfeet the funny part is actually how not all of them missed it just some...

  • @c0d3x001 Haha, and you can see the guy in the back counting them in at 5:25

  • @LukeSnyderMusic yeah... taking all that into consideration you could probably say this video is a piece of awesome comedy (for musicians and ToP fans)

  • @LukeSnyderMusic That would be Emilio Castillo, although he's kind of tough to recognize now.....

  • @dharmaseed now that you say it i can see it but yeah with the lighting and all that he's really tough to recognize here

  • @whiskeyandfeet If you've watched Dennis at the Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship (a classic) at the end of his solo on "Dancing Men" it happens the same to the "Buddy Rich Big Band". The end of the solo is pretty obvious.... but they didn't get it. Just look at Dennis' face.... I guess that he was thinking "%/&$/&%(/%(/& white musicians!!!"

  • @whiskeyandfeet- you know feet, now that you mention it, How did they miss it????

  • @whiskeyandfeet - i guesse not. The bass seemed to back in with the end of the "come on" snare fill. Don't you think so?

  • @whiskeyandfeet Reading your comment i was like... this makes no sense... 5:20 arrived lol and i saw exactly what you meant!

  • @whiskeyandfeet haha at least the keyboardist got it!

  • @whiskeyandfeet I was watching the rest of the band; it looks like they got caught up in his mondo groove but yeah, they missed it and they knew they did!

  • @whiskeyandfeet Looks like the keyboard player was the only one who had a chance. lol... Man he made that as dramatic as he possibly could. I have that happen on endings with some of our songs I play with my band. We actually have to practice endings and I have to make sure I do the same ending for each song every time.

  • @whiskeyandfeet

Watch Dennis Chambers videos - this happen to him ALWAYS :D Doesn't matter how obvious he shows the end of his solo... and sometimes even gets angry, you see it on his face xD

  • @TheWeirddrummer thats because he has an unusal way to play over the bars not always"4/4 sounding" with many permutations odd time phrases but i think here they just expected that he would go on playing his solo.

  • @whiskeyandfeet The keyboards didn't miss!

  • @whiskeyandfeet definitely sounds like: i'm - done (snare) you - guys (bass drum)... and 1, and 2, and 3, and - 4, and take it (snare) from (tom) here (crash) ... good eyes m8

  • @whiskeyandfeet The reason being Chambers cut his solo short by 4 bars! guess you're not a counter? jackass!

  • Damn perfect fundamentals...wow

  • Chambers is smooth as silk. Such a tasteful drummer. I saw him many years ago when he was touring with Mike Stern and have been a fan ever since.

  • Grooves like a true drumming legend!

  • Another of how humble already great musicians actually are. Very down to earth, and thankful for all the others that have had positive influences on the art of music. Dennis is an awesome drummer/ musician/ and person.

  • Subservient to the overall sound and music he just keeps on to the groove, without showing off with too much of his chops and fills!

  • Anyone know the sticking for that hi hat groove?

  • not being a bad person with the teacher, much less but plays better but david garibaldi master have nothing to do dennis chambers in tower of power and that I am a student of dennis chambers but the teacher played a lot and too much speed and technique But whatever you do not have a good grove for tower of power for many fills and breacks's not happy to learn to play without putting more bars fills or breaks

  • no matter how many times i look at this video it never gets old!

  • Damn, Dennis and Rocco are swinging like crazy, here!

  • Videos of Chambers, Cobham, Weckl, Gadd, Royster Jr., Peart, etc. are why I quit playing the drums. What they do looks hard, and it's so much harder than it looks!

  • @ShaneSaw83 you just play and create your own unique style, cuz that's the only thing that counts..

  • Comment removed

  • his drumsound is so amazing

  • ahhhwwwww pfffff.

  • wow, what a right hand at 1:42

and i just love his signature solo moves

  • what a shame that dennis doesn´t play funky lately, instead of today´s boring "j.ass"(JAZZ)...

    HE´S A MAN!

  • what song is this?

  • @sonor503503 knock yourself out

  • @sonor503503 knock yourselfs out

  • Dennis Chambers is the Man !!!!

    This is awesome !

  • When one listens to Dennis plays, you can't help but be struck by command, power and mastery of his instrument.

  • Dennis is playing with Speed, Control and in time. Ive just reheased today with my band the lead singer told me that I had very good time, he told me I don't care what you do as long as you are in time. He does not care about tricks chops he wants the time first time time time. No wearving time solid time.

  • @gbengaaaa Time is everything. :)

  • Time is everything if you don't have it, if you have it, it is just a beginning..:)

  • fat boy can flail

  • chambers is a good fit for this type of gig.

  • Funkin' awesome!

  • Yes, you got that Right !!! Dennis puts it down with ease. Hell of treat to Jam with TOP. Gotta give Rocco some too....Hell of Bass Player !!! to be playing along side backing it up. TOP period.....Funky !!!

  • Heavyweight skank! this guy is god! Im telling you if could program drums half this groovy youd be sorted for life!

  • Fucking awesome.

  • Dennis Chambers is death on drums !! The Heavyweight Champ !!! Now all I want to see is Mike Clark of The Headhunters play one show with TOP, then life will really be complete !

  • Yes, Mike Clark " Loft Funk" goes way back mixing it up Funky with Herbie Hancock. Nice grooves!!! Your on it Bro !!!

  • @MrJamim2009 "Actual Proof" 4real !

  • I love how the trombone player starts groovin with it from 1:36 - 1:50 XD

  • A lot of drummers are fun to watch for a little while because they are fast and whatnot, but musical drummers are the ones you got to love and watch all day. Tony Royster for example, he's extremely quick and everything, but he doesn't, for me, finish the deal and make everyone else sound better. Dennis is the way to go.

  • This is just FUCKIN SICK!!!!!

  • this guy was playin with gospel chops before there was a term for that

  • epically well done ;)

amazing chops and crisp in everyway

  • as usual DC is just killing the FORM & KICKS. nevermind the fact that his groove, chops & musicality are top 1% on the planet.

  • Adding my few cents, Dennis, Dave and Vinnie are in a diffrent league. Carter does come close. But Sit and watch Dennis, Dave and Vinnie, Effortless the small things that they do that we as Drummer dont think about. Dave is amazing and his sound is like butter. Vinnie kills me with his odd changes. Dennis hands are some of the best in the business. Enjoy...

  • using Dennis as a sub is definately an upgrade.

  • Wow holy smokes!!! So crisp so clean. Love the way those cymbals sound. Great ride work. I don't know what to say. I'm baffaled that's some serious power right there

  • DC can keep some serious, serious, serious time.

  • 2:33 pure sexynesssss.

  • Dennis kicked ass!

  • TOP is a perfect fit for Chambers...had DG not been around, DC would have been equally great at making some kick ass grooves for their tunes.

Fun to hear him in his element tearing it up!

  • Dennis is a grate grove an filling!!!

  • lets not conclude who is better but i am sure rocco would like to play with david more.

  • The song is called "Knock Yourself Out" I suggest checking out the album "Live in Living Color".

  • @FunkMasterDisco thanks a lot! :)
