I thought Durrr would win, yet great play by Phil. I am really shocked, he was well prepared. I'm Dwans fan, but have to admit, Hellmuth did his best and deserved that winning.
With hands like these it doesn't really matter who's playing. The best in the world won't fold trips against the biggest fish. Sometimes it REALLY isn't about skill at all, just sheer luck.

this is the real phil, the rest of the stuffs just an act for sponsorships and tv appearances, it's all about the money, he's a great player, dwans better, but dwan definitely got outplayed a ton in this match. PH changes his game a ton and dwan just didn't have enough time to adjust. Online 50k hands of HU PLO or NLHE, and durrrr would be a huge favourite.
Tom Dwan is the real professional. He shows some class when he loses, congratulates his opponent for his good play although he is the better player and his loss against P.H. was only variance. Chapeau!

Wow. To say Phil outplayed Dwan here is probably wrong. He played aggressively which is much better then Hellmuth's standard passive play and it probably did throw Dwan off which is excellent, but to say he outplayed him is really questionable.
i really like Phil. yeah. he gets pissed off sometimes, but its usually when someone sucks out on him. he just expresses what we would all feel inside. on the flip side though he was very very gracious after beating durrrr here, complimenting him all over the place, introducing him to his pop. good stuff
It's REALLY annoying that they don't show chip counts here. If Phil has 3 or 4x the chips Durrrr has, then shoving with the 3-6 is not nearly the same strategic risk that it is when they're almost even. By looking at the stacks I think Phil was up well enough that allowing a double up from Durrr wouldn't hurt him that badly, but obviously is a bigger risk to Durrr since it would mean game over.
@mrt110883 It said "raise to 68,000" at the bottom so you have to assume that is what Dwan had at the start of the hand. They both started with 80,000, so Phil only had him 92,000 to 68,000.
This was the best i ever saw Phil Hellmuth play. He outplayed everyhand, even with Bluff re-raises.
There is alot of hard words between Phil and the other known pros, which is probably why Phil celebrated his victory, (Poor manners) but should know, not to slow roll. Phil Tried to recover with post game praise to his Dad.
Tom showed great class and respect in his loss. A great pro and will be for many years.

There is an extensive amount of statistics & probabilities that pro players go thru when calculating odds of winning, opponent's possible hand ranges and explicit/implied pot odds based on their holdings. I agree Ivey is an amazing player in both MTTs & cash games. But you're severely shortchanging Dwan's abilities. He may not have success in tournaments but may possibly be the best cash game player in the world.
@Parligod Yes but if you watch Dwan, all he does is use his money to bully players off hands. For instance. I remember Laak had K 10, the river was a K, there was no A on the board and no draws. Laak raised 10,000 and Dwan reraised Laak all in 167,000. Laak cannot possibly call even though he has the best hand. Its just using your money to bully somebody off a hand. He doesn't have good reading abilities or anything and will never ever be as succesful as Hellmuth, Dolly, Chan, Moss, Seidel etc.

When a match is won through considerable luck then it wouldn't be sufficient proof, but when you're utterly outplayed it counts -- and Dwan was utterly outplayed.

phil knew that if he played like he always does twan would beat his ass. playing more ruthless and agressive like twan does gave him an edge I think. Although, twan didn't get any good hand where phil got the goods more then often.

I'll take Patrick Antonios, Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Illari Sahmies over Johnny Chan, Doyle and Phil Helmuth anyday. Why? Because they evolved from the tight playing poker of the past. There is an extensive amount of statistics & probabilities that pro players go thru when calculating odds of winning, opponent's possible hand ranges and explicit/implied pot odds based on their holdings. I agree Ivey is an amazing player in both MTTs & cash games. But you're severely shortchanging Dwan's abilities. He may not have success in tournaments but may possibly be the best cash game player in the world.

@Parligod Yes but if you watch Dwan, all he does is use his money to bully players off hands. For instance. I remember Laak had K 10, the river was a K, there was no A on the board and no draws. Laak raised 10,000 and Dwan reraised Laak all in 167,000. Laak cannot possibly call even though he has the best hand. Its just using your money to bully somebody off a hand. He doesn't have good reading abilities or anything and will never ever be as succesful as Hellmuth, Dolly, Chan, Moss, Seidel etc.
