I don't think that he really died. The theory with the broken glasses is not really plausible, becuase Horatio didn't wear them at the moment he was shot, so they also could have been crushed by falling on the ground. This would also explain why there were no blood spots on them.

The more, in the outlook for the next episode ( german TV) somebody said that Horatio's body disappeared after the assasination, so this gives me hope that he actually survived.
