Who would have ever thought that a carbon copy angle in a tiny Tupelo arena on a Friday night in the early 80s would have inadvertently changed the course of wrestling history? (Onita=FMW, FMW=ECW, ECW=WWF Attitude era...)
On a side note, I wonder how much Jarrett paid the folks at the Tupelo Sports Arena to do this stuff every year lol.
Hey Baron,I saw pictures of this brawl on Pro Wrestling Illustrated and finally saw it on tape. Classic Memphis mayhem only the Moondogs-Lawler and Jarrett concession brawl in Missouri comes a close second.
The brawl was just "ok". How many brawls have you seen? And how many have been in the concession stand area? This fued has been a mainstay in professional wrestling in the South. In the same breath as the classic brawls between Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer
@ralphusrjones It would be if it hadn't been done twice before. They just couldn't top Lawler/Dundee vs the Blonde Bombers. This one is historic only for what it ended up leading to (the creation of FMW.)
In fact, Jim Cornette wrote about this one a while back and noted that it pretty much killed Tupelo as a stopover for Jarrett promotions. Indeed, not long after this the CWA/USWA only rarely ventured into Tupelo.
No Rope Japanese Fighting Stick Bloody Mustard Deathmatches just aren't the same without the glass cages and C4.
